They have two party rooms which are quite small and the party packages are overpriced. It is a great place to take younger (pre school) children for a run around, but the toilets are very small and cramped. The communal coffee area for parents is often grubby and dirty. Snacks and drinks are very expensive and poor quality. Security is not great so keep an eye on your purse! It is also down to you to keep an eye on the children. General entry prices are pretty reasonable, but the whole place always looks like it needs a good clean!

The entrance to the park is in Woodford Green but the park itself is in London E4. If you find yourself searching for a peaceful meander there can be not better place than to take a stroll over Highams Park. There are few facilities (a small childrens play area) just the remains of the grounds of an old manor house including the lake which is and excellent place to take the kids to feed the ducks and climb the trees. The house has long gone but the forest at Highams Park contains a boating lake formed by Humphry Repton after damming the River Ching. During WWII the grounds were converted to prefab housing and still upon close examination the remains of paths and roads can be seen. The park and lake sit on the endge of some woods which are a pleasure to stroll through. Situated around the lake are some stones said to have been salvaged from the stones left over from the dismantaling of the original London Bridge. Anybody looking to find a peaceful part of our great capital city should pack up some bread for the swans, geese and ducks and head to Highams Park.

We were there for almost 2-hours and even sat afterwards at the local cafe near the children's play area and enjoyed a sandwich and tea. It was very busy on a winters Sunday with loads of families, but once we made it towards the back side of the park it was less crowded. We will definitely go again and allow more time to meander around the grounds. The inside of the Coombe Abbey Hotel is just beautiful. Recommend popping inside for a quick look around. I hear the afternoon tea is exquisite in the hotel but i think we should book ahead!

Prices are about the level you would expect although they have an antiquated ticket system which harks back to the 70's. In conclusion this is about as good as it gets in Kettering. Anything better and the locals would just ruin it!

Hartshill Hayes is set in a wonderful woodland area. It has been for many years our family's…read morefavourite walking area around Nuneaton. The woods are very well managed and retain the right balance of managed and wild areas. This is a mature forest,with a large variety of native trees, woodland plants and wildlife. We never fail to go when the bluebells are flowering as they cover the undergrowth in a rich deep carpet. It truly is a superb sight. It is a wonderful place to go and unwind, sit quietly on a bench, watch and listen to the birds. Children of all ages love exploring and will also like the play area. Adults are sometimes spotted on the rope and tyre swings. The terrain is hilly in most places, but nothing too challenging. There are several options of walks and paths to follow, including the easy path, which is handy for weelchairs and pushchairs. This path in particular will take you on the more scenic part of the park. On a clear day you can see the steam rising from the power station in Burton-on-Trent. There are a few picnic tables and it makes for a lovely day out when the weather is nice. Few people realise how beautiful the woods can be when it is raining, as long as you are well covered! Parking is cheap £1.50 a day, we buy the season ticket and come on the drop of a hat.

You know those amazingly warm and sunny weekends? Well we don't get them too often and when they…read morehappen I get the urge to do something quintessentially English. So last one day recently saw a much needed drive out of Brum and into the countryside. I'm not a National Trust member but I am starting to wonder why? Our visit to Packwood House was fantastic. You can go into the house and even have a tour but we wanted to experience the gardens, herbaceous borders and huge yew topiaries up close. The house is originally 16th century and features several gorgeous blue and gold sun dials - so check your watch against them and see which are still set to GMT. The gardens are beautiful and kept in stunning condition. Mostly they are comprised of some very distinct and large yew topiaries. The highlight has to be walking up the helter skelter style border to reach the top of The Mound which is adorned with a large yew tree. From there you can take in the views, enjoy the cool shade and benefit from some much needed peace. The rest of the gardens are a mix of wild and wonderful plants and the look must change considerably throughout the year. Don't miss out on walking around the back of the house to catch the very unique sun dial monument. A great day out even if you are not a National Trust member - stunning!

Packwood is another National Trust property right on the doorstep and one that makes me so glad…read morethat we got membership for a Chrismas present. The gardens are the usual lovely mixture of more formal with some stunning yew trees to admire, plus the broader park land. The formal area is very children friendly and there's a lovely little raised mound right at the back that's lots of fun to run up. The pak land has a great walk and there's a large pond/small lake with ducks. It's a good place to explore and there's the usual wooded area to wander around too. The National Trust is so much better at welcoming families and Packwood now has so much more to offer children such as outdoor games and family activities during holidays. Picnics are welcome too. There isn't a cafe or restaurant although you can get coffee and snacks from the reception area. The toilets are in the car park.

Nice enough, small sized country park…read more There are some old and interesting pieces of ironwork from it's quarry days, including a rusting large yellow train (can pass for Bill or Ben if you have a young Thomas fan :-) ) There is a nice play area, a pond, a small woods. A stroll round the whole place would take under an hour even at quite a slow pace so it's not absolutely huge. Bordered by countryside and with nice views over fields etc, the Jurassic Way track borders the park too. The cafe could be so much nicer, but is extremely reasonable and friendly enough. Simple, fresh food and cups of tea/cakes etc. Garden furniture and a large window overlooking the outside, but often steamed up. There are rooms next to the cafe that contain a myriad of secondhand books for sale and a model of the old quarry which is interesting. There are craft workshops and whatnot too, but they are privately run.

The play equipment is fantastic; it also has equipment for people in wheel chairs. There is also a huge sandpit, so remember to take your bucket and spade! The park sells them if you forget! The walks around the park are also great and more recently they seem to be making all the paths tarmac so everyone can enjoy them. There are lots of huge trees to explore and climb too! The huge duck pond and stream are full of wildlife; my children adore feeding the ducks, which have to be the best feed ducks about! After all of that there is a cafe, craft shops and museum to wander round too. The downside I have to say is the toilets are in need of an update!
