The greeters at the door were amazing! She assisted us with everything we needed. From helping us get to the children's wing so we could drop off our son, showing us where we could get some refreshments, she introduced us to just about everybody and amazingly enough there were very welcoming, took us to the resource area where after getting some information we were given a welcome gift, and finally walked us into the sanctuary. We were completely blown away walking in there. IT'S INCREDIBLE! There are ushers at both doors that assist everyone with getting their seating, so we were shown where to seat. We were early so we waited for service to start and surprisingly enough a few people stopped by to speak with us. Then service started and the worship team stepped on platform. Let me tell you something... that worship team is ON FIRE FOR THE LORD AND ONE OF A KIND! They are amazing!! Before I knew it I was crying because I was so moved. Then Apostle Brian Hallam came out and gave one of the best sermons I've ever heard. He teaches right out of the Bible, and doesn't hold back. I mean that in a good way. This church is hands down one of the best Holy Spirit filled churches I've ever been in. I've never felt the power of God move like it does here. It truly is remarkable and life changing. For years I had a…read morefriend talking about his church and trying to get me to check it out claiming that it was totally up my alley--and he was right. The services are laid back and have almost a classroom feel to them. The small congregation is always friendly and close knit without excluding the new comers. Pastor Paul is great at really touching on topics that are relevant in life. Yes, this mall is located in a strange location (behind Joanne's Fabrics in a strip mall), but it grows on you. You can tell this isn't some sell out church spouting out popular doctrine and sacrificing tough messages. I think what I like the best about this church is the community--people really get to know each other here. They do great things to foster this sense of belonging like monthly pot lucks, dinner clubs, small group studies, etc. I never felt lost in the shuffle of things and there was a sense of accountability without the accusatory nature often found in religious organizations. I've been gone from B/CS for a few years now and have had the hardest time finding a new church in Houston that can match the environment found here. It is definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a smaller setting for your Sunday rituals.

I has an older building with lovely stained glass windows and beautiful courtyard. The comfortable sanctuary hosts the traditional service on Sunday morning. Its newer building has the contemporary service with a Christian band. Nursery care is provided in the newer building. The congregation has lots of college students, some young families and older adults. Volunteer opportunities abound and the potluck dinners are very congenial.

Since that time many years ago, Hillel has a brand new building that would outclass some synagogues. I really enjoyed the visit and tour (Friday Day) and the confirmation that my annual contributions are really making a difference.

The programming has flourished with the completion of the new building, and it is a wonderful space that several organizations within the Jewish community here utilize. Everyone at Hillel is very welcoming, and there are a variety of options for those who are interested in being involved in Jewish life on campus. There are social, religious, and learning opportunities, and students are encouraged to explore Judaism in ways that are the most comfortable to them! Shabbat dinners are great, and the staff are very open to feedback from students. Hillel also has connections to many opportunities through Hillel International, AIPAC, Birthright, etc., and many students (including myself) have been able to go on heavily subsidized trips. I met some of my best friends here, so if you are new to College Station you should definitely stop by on Friday night!
