Would advise booking and printing off tickets in advance as you…read morecan't buy tickets on board and having to dash to the ticket office, meant I missed the ferry which was in and had to wait an hour for the next one. £32.50 for a car and £8.10 for driver return which is a bit steep to go the short trip to Rothesay but this is a return valid for five days. It is cheaper to go as a foot passenger (£8.10) but there was limited parking (no spaces) for me to leave the car and a car is recommended for exploring Rothesay. Service appears to be hourly and leaves on time - only a 30 minute crossing with an on-board shop with which to get snacks, coffee's and newspapers.

Quick cup of coffee, as we were early, before boarding. Even though there 'seemed' a load of people, space was no problem. Plenty of places to sit either on deck or below. The experience started at 9.30 am. As a tug turned this great steamer around and then we were off. Can't beat seeing that great London Tower Bridge being raised. Passing underneath with a courteous blast to say thank you. The trip along the Thames was so interesting and supplemented by the descriptions and interesting facts across the ships speakers. Arrived, dead on time, at 1.30 at Southend pier for our break before returning. Bars and dining rooms were always busy but never a long wait. Why rush anyway. Interesting, as the sun went down, to see the lights along the river. A river I was bought up along all my life and the changes are outstanding. The finale, a lit up Tower Bridge opening. A fantastic day out. Looking forward to seeing The Waverley next year for another, maybe different, cruise. Finally, Thank you to the Captain and all his crew. Everyone worked so hard to make our day special.

ABANDONED. DANGEROUS COMPANY!…read more 70 people including elderly, disabled and children abandoned in Minehead after an organised trip off the boat. All left for over 2 hours with no contact from the boat after a coach failed to pick everyone up. We're then left to find own way back to Penarth from Minehead at own cost. Absolutely disgusting, traumatising and dangerous. This company should not be allowed to run! Do not book!

Having visited in its early days, I found this terminal to be incredibly clean and not a bad spot to spend a few minutes while waiting for your ferry. The passenger waiting room is on the top floor and provides a great view of the ferry and cars loading. The terminal is also conveniently located across from a small strip mall that includes the local chip shop. Highly recommend grabbing a quick snack to take on the ferry. (However, give yourself plenty of time for pickup since the chip shop can get busy & slow.)

Yes, you pay nowt, nada, zilch, not a penny to ride across the Clyde River from Govan to the Riverside Museum/Tallship. Most excellent indeed my friends! I managed to catch one of the last rides across from Govan to the RM at about 5:50pm & it's so handy if you want to walk-ferry-walk home or even cycle-ferry-cycle home as the ferry allows (a few) cycles on board. Double whoop! You can catch the ferry either from down at Water Row pontoon or at the Riverside Museum harbour. It runs from 8am - 6pm Mon-Fri and at the weekends 9:45am - 5:30pm. Those times midweek are pretty darn handy for you if you happen to work in Govan (as I do) or if you live in Govan and work in Partick or Yoker area. Yesterday evening was lovely & sunny so taking a cheeky wee boat across the river just felt like a wee extravagant, luxurious way to commute home from work. I imagine this must be what Beyonce feels like...stepping onto a ferry (or rather MASSIVE yacht/speedboat) to travel homewards to her 'crib'...oh yeeaahhh...Rollin' with the homies indeed. Then I was rudely awoken by a GIANT seagull (or Glasgull as I call them) screaming in my face and I was back in the room/on the Clyde *sigh* Even though I may not be a millionaire singer superstar I did feel a *wee* bit like one stepping onto a boat and not having to cross the pirates/captains palm with silver (or more likely indestructible plastic notes these days), travelling for free is always nice. You want to know the other cool thing about the Govan Ferry? Apparently if they get enough folk using it then they can build up a good argument for putting in place a proper bridge across this part of the water, which I think would be ace. Also SUPER handy for those now working/travelling to the new SUPER hospital in Govan. Jah. So, good people of Glasgow I urge you to make use of this glorious FREE service whilst you can as the only drawback here is this ferry unfortunately only runs from early July until mid August :-( I'm not sure why it's only for about a month? Answers on a postcard please. Like boats? Like rivers? Like museums of transport or really tall ships? Like the wonder of Govan? Like free things? Then what are you waiting for?! We stayed at The Douglas Hotel for three nights in the off-season (March) and overall, I really loved our stay here. We booked the executive double room and it was £347 for three nights including breakfast which I thought was a good price. The hotel is in a great location in Brodick, right opposite the ferry terminal and close to everything in town. Check-in was fine but our room wasn't ready so we left our bags to wander around town before coming back at 3pm. They'd put our bags in our room for us, and we were really impressed with the room - it was spacious, modern and had a great view over Brodick Bay and the terminal. It was so nice lying on the bed and looking out the window! It was a little hard to get the temperature right in the room which was one of my complaints about this place - we either seemed to have it set at too hot or too cold and rarely got it just right. The bathroom was lovely and had a large bath and plenty of products. You also get to keep the little Douglas duck in the bathroom which I think is a really cute touch. It was a little chilly and the main bathroom light was incredibly bright, which meant that if you switched it on at night it was like having a spotlight in your face. The bed was super comfortable and I had a really good sleep each night here. Breakfast was served in the bistro downstairs (7.30am-9.30am Monday-Saturday, 8am-10am on Sunday). You could have a full Scottish, kippers, eggs etc or just the continental. I thought the breakfast was just ok actually - I love a full Scottish breakfast but this one seemed to lack seasoning and the mushrooms weren't cooked quite right for me. Service at breakfast was haphazard at best and the staff often seemed stressed and confused which I found really strange - they just didn't seem very well organised. The continental buffet often ran out of something (juice, salmon, croissants) but no one seemed to check up on it. We'd also ordered the newspaper each day we were staying there, but only got it on the first day. Not the end of the world I know, but worth mentioning. Overall, I did really love this hotel and enjoyed our stay here. I just think the few little complaints I have mean I can't quite give it 5 stars, but I would definitely stay here again when we return to Arran.

For shame, I had never been to Arran, so when we decided to spend a long weekend there the brand recognition kicked in. Overall, I was really impressed with my time here, and would struggle to go elsewhere on the island if we decided to go for another hotel stay. In terms of the most important aspects of a hotel stay it does it all well: the rooms (we were in one of the bigger ones on the second floor) are comfortable, spacious, with a really cozy bed and a massive bathroom with a bath and a shower (my one comment would be that the shower maybe needed a wee bit more oomph - it was warm enough, but maybe needed an extra 10% power). There was working free wifi, and the rooms were maintained to a good standard - definitely not brand new, but they were definitely getting some attention. The design is modern without being hardly minimal, and this style continues to the public spaces. In terms of amenities you've got a good sized bar which sells drinks and snacks, as well as a bistro. The atmosphere in both was pretty good, and the food was of a good standard - it's probably one of the best hotel cooked breakfasts I've had in a long while, and you can tell that the food they are using is local, good quality fare. The staff are friendly, helpful, and while things might slow down a smidge at busier times of the day it isn't that much of a big deal. One of the bonuses is that this is literally next door to Brodick harbour, so you can walk or drive off the ferry and be there in around a minute (strangely, you don't get a huge amount of noise from the harbour in your room, it's pretty quiet). The car park isn't huge, but we never had a problem getting a space, and there are dozens of free spaces on the main road anyway. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my time here, and I can't think of a bigger endorsement than the fact that I would happily go back given half the chance. The free rubber duck might be swaying this, but I'm not sure there is a "fancy" hotel that's better than this on the island, and I enjoyed myself enough that I don't know that I would bother looking elsewhere.

A couple of tourist tat shops and a cafe have now been complemented by an excellent little vintage football stall and a Peckham's deli and snack bar, while WH Smith's offers all the standard airport fare. Overall, it's clean, relatively laid back and friendly. Now of course, as the home to Ryanair flights, "Glasgow Prestwick" is actually nowhere near Glasgow, but during the day, getting to and from the city is no problem given the closeby proximity of Prestwick train station. Indeed, your flight ticket will bank you half price travel, 3.50 for a single. Should you arrive after 11pm, however, you will have to board a fairly grubby and over-priced bus which stops at both Glasgow and Edinburgh. Booking this in advance is strongly advised. Other than this, my only complaint is its failure to acknowledge the fact this is the only spot in the UK Elvis set foot in. I mean, I know they've put down a plaque, dedicated an entire restaurant to him, plastered the walls with Elvis memorabilia and erected a 10ft Elvis timeline which lists "Elvis visits Prestwick Airport" among the biggest achievements in his life, but is this really enough to commemorate the five minutes the King spent in Ayrshire as he changed flights? I think not.

**Terrible Experience with Sightseeing Hop-On Bus in Glasgow - Avoid at All Costs!**…read more I purchased two 2-day tickets for the Sightseeing Hop-On Bus in Glasgow for August 2-3, 2025, expecting a smooth and enjoyable tour of the city. Instead, I was met with **unprofessionalism, dishonesty, and a complete waste of time and money**. On August 3, I planned to take the **Yellow Route**, but guess what? **The bus never showed up!** There was **no notice, no warning, no apology**--just complete silence from the company. I stood at the **"Celtic" stadium stop** for **over an hour in scorching heat**, waiting for a bus that never arrived. Eventually, I had to **spend extra money on a taxi** just to get to the city centre. Because of this **shocking lack of service**, I **missed out on key tourist attractions** I had planned to visit. I **flew all the way to the UK**, paid for hotels, and invested time and money into this trip, only to have my plans ruined by this **unreliable company**. The **moral distress** of being stranded without explanation is just the icing on the cake. **Save your money and your sanity--DO NOT book with this company!** Zero stars if I could.

Fabulous sightseeing tour of Glasgow. All of the busses we rode on were clean and in good…read morecondition. Some of the busses got pretty busy and the top floor is half uncovered which was not great while it rained. I was super impressed with the recordings which were clear and very interesting. There were even 2 different recordings in English, one more historical and one music themed. My only wish is that it stopped closer to the botanical gardens. However, the walk through the university was gorgeous so it ended up being a blessing in disguise.

However, it provides good links from Dennistoun to the city centre and west end, as well as services running to Springburn and beyond. I find the train to be a much more pleasant way to travel than the busy local buses, beating traffic and providing a much more comfortable method of travel. This station is ideal for those in the east end to hop on and off a train and be in town in no time, and if you're lucky enough, you might even be off the train before the conductor gets to you and get away with skipping the fare... bonus!

Bellgrove is a decent wee east-end train station…read more Covering both lines from Drumgelloch and Airdrie to Helensburgh and Balloch, and connecting with stations to Springburn, Bellgrove is slap bang in the middle of the city centre and the east end. It's in walking distance of Parkhead, Dennistoun, and not too far from the east-end/Barrowlands area of town. It's a relatively small station, with one platform down the middle where you can step on a train going in either direction. There is no manned ticket booth, but there are some seats and sheltered areas.
