So unbelievably upset with this shop. Everything started out wonderful. I asked about their nondairy options and the staff pointed me to this counter with mango alternative made of almond milk. My daughter is highly allergic to dairy. I asked at least two to three times and the attendant assured me that there was no dairy.
Everything looked fine so we got the mango almond milk yogurt. My daughter took one bite and started crying. In the past, this means she senses something off. She didn't want anymore of the yogurt. Five minutes later, she has hives on her body and above her lip.
I showed the staff what had happened and demanded a refund. She seemed unapologetic and said that my daughter must be allergic to almond milk. This is a laughable conjecture because my daughter has drank almond milk as an alternative since she has been one years old bc she can't consume dairy. Also, keep in mind that my daughter was perfectly fine before eating the yogurt and I control her diet pretty strictly so she didn't have anything outside her normal diet besides eating this yogurt.
The lady couldn't give us a refund but begrudgingly let us buy something for the same amount. What choice did we have but to take it so my husband had a soy yogurt shake.
About 30 min later, my daughter threw up everything in her stomach including the yogurt she had, a typical allergic reaction to consuming dairy. Then her body broke out in hives. I was so mad at this point that I walked back to this shop and expressed my frustration that they didn't take any responsibility for what had happened. The person at the shop couldn't even fathom that cross contamination could have happened or that a mistake occurred. She explained that other customers with dairy allergies eat this all the time without a problem and showed me another premade yogurt with the ingredients label. The problem is the one we bought, the premade mango yogurt had no ingredients label. It was just set in the same dairy free section. Who knows what was really in that container. I just can't understand their confidence in their product when a little kid has an allergic reaction after eating their product immediately after to deny any responsibility. Some kind of error must have happened on their part. My kid was fine all morning prior. My kid is ONLY allergic to dairy. This is something we have lived with her entire life. Facts are facts and to be so indignant in the response was just so unacceptable.
Only when I started to tear up expressing my frustration that it sucks seeing a little two year old have a whole body cover on hives, itching for two hours, and vomits that the staff member apologized. It not even about me. If she just looked at how itchy and uncomfortable my little kid was, I think anyone should feel bad. It wasn't about the money either. I don't care about whether or not I got the refund or whatever. I would pay the 6 euros to avoid my kid from expressing a super uncomfortable afternoon. At the end of the day, I really didn't appreciate the denial of taking any responsibility for what happened. I will always remember the staff's indignant response insisting that my kid must be allergic to almond milk even despite the fact my daughter has seen numerous doctors, gotten skin and blood tests for what she is allergic to. Believe me, she is not allergic to almond milk but DAIRY. read more
