I wish Yelp would let me give ten stars to one business a year. Because I'm pretty sure California Cycle Path would get those ten stars. Yes, it's only January. And yes, I've only been going there since December (a month ago). But I cannot say enough good things about this place. It was recommended to me by a friend. Over dinner one night in November with a friend, I had shared that I had decided to make some lifestyle changes that included being more active. I was never a very active person and I'm still slowly getting into better shape. I expressed my interest in finding somewhere to do indoor cycling or swimming during the colder months to keep moving. My friend understood this and explained that at CCP you can pay per class as you go, there's no sign-up fee or monthly membership fee. But more importantly, there's no judgment. I went for my first indoor cycling class early one morning. My friend said Larry was a good instructor to start with. He was very welcoming and supportive, told me that if I needed to just sit and pedal, that was fine if I couldn't keep up with what he was doing. That first class really did kick my butt, but Larry and the other people in the class were all very encouraging. I knew it would get easier and I had to push myself a little, but I had fun. I've since been to a rowing class with Lauren and John, a Zumba class with Laura and two more spinning classes (one with Larry and one with Lee Ann). All the instructors have their own style but even my second class with Larry was completely different (he even mentioned that he could see I was doing better). They have classes early mornings or evenings so it's easy to attend a class before or after work. On weekends they have classes throughout the day. My work schedule varies, but I try to find time to go to a class at least once a week. I've bragged CCP so much that a few of my coworkers are now also hooked. There is even a small lounge area where you can get water, coffee and/or snacks at CCP. Oh, and did I mention the peppermint infused cool towels they hand out at the end of a cycling class? If you can't tell, I've been chatting CCP up to anyone who will listen. I only bought a package of 10 classes to start because I wasn't sure if I'd like it or not. Boy, was that a mistake. If you're looking to get fit, get more active, or just something different but are hesitant or anxious over the usual gym atmosphere then you need to check out California Cycle Path.

Crunch couldn't do so in time because no one would respond to me in a timely manner/was not available. After 14 days, Jordan emailed me (since no one picks up the dang phone from corporate) and said they had to charge me for the $29.99 a month and then freeze immediately (so I pay for a month I can't use). This ticked me off, and I wanted to cancel instead. Jordan said they have to charge me another $29.99 to "reactivate" my membership to cancel. No refunds for last month that THEY couldn't cancel in time, no refunds for the $29.99 cancellation. I was NEVER told there would be a cancellation fee, nor should there be. Anywhere else I've had memberships to where my account has been frozen have been able to cancel for no fees. I asked for a higher manager and was told "I cannot give that information." I was told I would do a chargeback and was told "then we will reactivate your membership and fees." What kind of business is this?! It's a fraudulent, scummy business that I have told everyone I know not to go to. I went to unfreeze my membership to cancel it for good two months ago, and the person at the front desk told me it was already cancelled. Bizarre. I tried ClassPass and it's much better!

Unsure if this is because I'm a woman or that's unrelated. Last week, I gave the gym another shot. I planned to do a drop-in, but the owner insisted I sign up. Since then, I've been repeatedly scolded for: - Taking phone calls, even with headphones. - Filming more than just my top set (which then ended up out of frame). - Filming accessories, despite needing to track an injury. - Having my tripod at a visible height, even though I ensure no one else is in frame. The worst was when I filmed myself alone in the bathroom mirror (fully clothed), stopped as soon as the owner's wife walked in, yet still got chewed out. That same day, the gym posted a rant calling social media lifters "fame-seekers" while selectively endorsing/ reposting others' Instagram posts. I left feeling anxious about getting yelled at again. None of these "rules" were communicated upfront--I was just reprimanded after the fact.

I moved to Pittsburgh a few months ago and wanted to find a local gym. I've lived in MANY cities…read moreand been a member at MANY gyms, so I know what I want and need. As I researched nearby gyms prior to my move, Altus stood out - they had great reviews online and their philosophy/program offering seemed to align with what I was seeking. John was very responsive to my initial inquiry and after I got settled, I went to meet him for an initial consult. Our conversation gave me full confidence this was the place for me. I love strength training, so I wanted to work with a trainer to get me back into the routine of lifting weights, but I need flexibility - I travel frequently for work and often have to book trips last minute. During our conversation, we talked through everything - my history with strength training, my work and travel schedule, nutrition, injuries, goals, expectations, budget --- it was the most thorough consult I've had with any gym. I also had a preliminary session to determine my baseline (strength, range of motion, etc.) and get all the data measurements, which we use and remeasure to track my progress over time. Now that I've been going to Altus for a few months, I can genuinely say the entire experience - and Altus team - have been amazing. I immediately felt welcome and I appreciate the trainers so much. I've been working with Aaron for my individual sessions and squad sessions and it's been great. He's truly a 'coach' in that we're always talking through each set (about my form, the muscle groups we're focused on, how I'm feeling after each set, why we're doing certain things, etc.) -- it's educational, engaging, and fun. And he's always flexible with my crazy work schedule - accommodating changes when I have to go out of town, providing workouts through the mobile app that I can do virtually when I'm gone, squeezing in sessions when nothing about my availability is 'normal', and checking in regularly between sessions to see how I'm doing. I've also joined several classes and they're always fun - Heather, Cheri, Brandi --they'll kick your butt, but you'll love every minute of it. :) the Versa climber was a new piece of equipment for me --- it's killer but awesome! If you're looking for a gym that will focus on what you need and trainers who will champion you every step of the way to reaching your goals --- head over to Altus. They're the best!

I was surprised to find Altus in downtown Pittsburgh, located between a couple of fast food…read morerestaurants. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it completely exceeded my expectations! I signed up for a Versa climber 45 minute class (FYI - you can sign up for your first class for free). When I walked up the steps of the studio, I was blown away by the entire gym setup, in addition to the classrooms. They truly have something for everyone! When I signed in for class, I was given a heart monitor to track my workout and taken back to the climber room. The instructor, Cody, was so welcoming and full of energy! I was a little worried since this was my first time taking this type of class, and he made me feel so comfortable and continued to motivate us throughout the entire 45 minutes of class. This workout was HARD, but I felt so good after and would definitely come back to Altus to check out their other options in the future
