I had the good fortune of interacting with Joey several times due to a very unfortunate series of events. First was my divorce. Both parties wanted nothing from each other so it was as quick as signing and initialing and parting ways. Divorce is never easy, but the whole process in her office was probably as painless as it can be. The second came many years later when I remarried and attempted to change my name. I was told that even though I had clearly indicated during the divorce/paper signing process that I would be returning to my maiden name, therefore including the reversion as part of my judgement, the Social Security office still had me in their system with my previously married name. I was livid. I was told I needed a specific paper that was not included with my divorce documents to release me. Because I had gotten jobs, renewed ID's, even passed a background check for a federally regulated position with my maiden name, CA Divorce Council were clearly not the only agency that fell down. Thankfully I didn't email Joey in a rage (though admittedly I may have sounded a bit angry, in a general way), so I didn't make too much of an ass of myself, because it turned out it was in my judgement. The whole time. In the end, the mistake was on the Social Security department. Joey got me hooked up with a certified copy in case anyone tried to say I needed one (the SS office actually tried to pull that, but backed off when they realized they were at fault). California Divorce not only handled my divorce but also 2 different Trust(s) for me. Going through a divorce can be terrifying BUT in this case my (now) ex-husband and I knew what we wanted so it was a matter of having a knowledgeable professional handle the paperwork for me, in this case, the filer. Neither was easy, but that was because of the professional effort of presenting me with dozens of questions to protect my interests. Not that I would ever hope you need a Mediator or Legal Document Assistant for a divorce, I have worked with Jolene twice before (1988, 1999) and now find myself in an undesired position of needing her services one more time now in July 2017. I despise the thought of giving lawyers one nickel as I know it will lead to thousands of dollars with nothing to show for it. I was fortunate in my two previous marriages that my X's agreed to manage the process through a mediator.
