From 90 cent beach toys to $75.00 flip flops, overpriced tanning lotion to quirky cool cheap sunglasses, there is something for everyone here. I can spend hours of precious tanning time in this store milling about The stores are always located very near a beach. This particular one is in Gulport, Mississippi on the Gulf of Mexico. They store is big and stocks everything. This one has a larger than average food/grocery section likely due to the area being decimated after Katrina. It was one of the first things built following Katrina, and it was a welcome sight. It's almost always a must do part of a trip to the beach when you haven't been in a while. The store has cool air conditioning, and tons of things for people to buy in any price range. You can take you kids in there, grab a couple t-shirts and a towel each and drop less than 30 a person. Each summer, we all go in Surf Styles to pick one of the big (giant) beach towels hanging on the wall. The only con is that they have no public restrooms, normally this is not an issue, but in an area like Gulfport with little existing infrastructure, this can be hard on people with kids. The employees are usually polite and the long, snaking lines move faster than you would expect. On Father's day and Mother's day they give away free gifts. That is a kind gesture. I like Surf Styles and still smile when I look at the little mementos I have acquired from each trip to the beach. I especially dig the bags they give you, they are reusable and are super convenient for follow up beach trips or even for Mardi Gras beads. Every time I see one on the parade route I smile and am reminded that my next trip to the beach is coming up!

Let's be honest, it is full of a bunch of cute stuff that no one really "needs" but when you're out taking in the little city of BSL, you just find yourself buying it. I was killing time on Saturday and dropped in and got a couple of fun gifts for the different birthdays and holidays approaching. I did LOVE the many different and affordable nativity sets they had. I would have purchased one had been able to get a little closer (ppl were blocking the area). The store is VERY crammed with stuff and displays, so when there are large groups of women doing girls weekend and bachelorette parties, it can get a bit overwhelming. (Such was the case on Saturday - these women weren't budging and i had to actually climb under one's purse to get around them without knocking down a display.) No fault of the store... But the displays are everywhere! Every time I looked back at one, I felt like something else had popped up on it! The employee at the counter was super friendly and personable, she made everyone feel like they had been friends for years. Can't go wrong with staff like her! They gift wrap too, but I opted not to go that route. I look forward to returning next time I'm in the area to see what seasonal items they have.

She said she didn't pack a dress so we went looking for a place that sold dresses. Since the Bay St. Louis side of the bridge is short on souvenir shops like Sharkheads and Surf Style, I suggested just buying her a dress at the Hollywood or Silver Slipper casino gift shops. My precious thrifty child was concerned about Mama's money and said "Won't you have to pay like three prices there?" I told her if I was buying money should be no concern of hers... it was Mother's Day but I WANTED to buy HER something. Fortunately, the casinos didn't have anything that she liked or wanted so on the way out I noticed this Burke's place. I asked Red, my friend that was with me, "What is Burkes?" He said he had never heard of it,so out of sheer curiosity I whooped in there with my daughter following in her Fiat. We were astonished!!! This store reminded me so much of the TJ Maxx stores we have up here in Alabama. Beautiful assortment of clothing, I even found a Jessica Simpson wallet originally priced $42.99 for $14.99 WOW. After a wonderful win of $51 and something out of that $100 bill that I played out of David's wallet that I use for good luck, I told Red .. "Now I do not go sticking that $100 back into a machine and lose it because it would negate the win." He agreed, and I do believe that My Love, David, the love of my life husband, soulmate, twin flame would be delighted to know that I spent that $100 bill in this store buying things for my daughter and myself. We found dresses, bras, a wallet, bathing suits, some leave in conditioner, lip gloss, sweet potato chips and all other sorts of goodies for less than $71 with tax and all. I love this store and my daughter got a gorgeous black and white short beach dress with flowers on the skirt to wear in a very important picture on Mother's Day with her Mama (me) on the beautiful shores of the bay near the Silver Slipper casino. Hint: If you catch yourself down at the casinos in Bay St. Louis and need clothing or anything else for that matter, DO NOT PAY those outrageous casino store prices, you are within a short drive to Burke's where you can get anything you need for a bargain.

My daughter thanked me profusely for finding this hidden gem. We went in there feeling downtrodden by our lack of support in the bra area after years of guessing the cup and band sizes. I was quickly told I needed an appointment, even though there's a big sign right on their front door that says no appointment needed. What made it worse was that all the employees looked like they were around 16 years old and had zero customer service skills. No one greeted me with a smile, asked if I needed help, or tried to explain the situation kindly. After being turned away, I checked online and found out that it costs $50 just to make an appointment to try on wedding dresses. Between the misleading signage, the lack of professionalism, and the poor service, this was a really disappointing experience, especially when planning something as meaningful as a wedding. I would not recommend this shop. As a business owner, turning someone away is something I would never do. When you have clients you always make time or at least treat them with respect at the least.
