Great experience all around. I was really considering seed and then found the California Sod Center's prices at nearly half of what Home Depot and Lowes were charging for sod. The delivery driver was a little earlier than the drop off window, but laid the pallets right where we needed them saving us a bunch of time. I am very happy with the product as well. Had a horrible experience here. I live quite a ways away. They close at 5, so planned to be there 30 mins early to be safe. Accident on the fwy caused me to be 50 mins later than planned. I called and asked the woman if there's anything they can do as my eta was updated to one minute past 5, NO JOKE, 60 second past 5, not asking for much but she refused even though she knew I drove almost 2 hrs. I get that theyre at the airport, I get they have to close at 5 but have a heart, and leave it outside or take it with you out the gate as you're leaving to give to me. I prepaid anyway. Found this company on Craigslist (always wary), then saw their good ratings on Yelp! Decided to sod a small grass area at one of our rental properties. I needed 480 sq. feet which is a bit under a full pallet. Called just before closing and asked if that amount would fit in my truck and could I pick it up the morning? Received "Yes" answers to both. Did not need to pre order for that amount - just come down and get it! Next morning, no problem at all - ordered at the desk and was told to drive over to the sod area. The guy who helped me at the desk came out and loaded the sod. I have a regular size GMC Sierra pick up - it fit, but it was loaded heavy and riding low! No problems on the drive home though. The guy told me he threw in two extra pieces - the amount came out perfect - exactly two pieces left over when we finished laying the sod! (Rarely happens when I measure!) The sod was fresh, healthy and good quality - just make sure (with any sod) that it is picked up first thing in the morning, keep the pile of sod in the shade at the site (we used an EZ- up), install ASAP - then water thoroughly. They have a tool called a sod sickle for $3 - It was great for cutting the sod - well worth picking up (more than 1 if doing a large area). You can order for delivery as well - delivery charges vary with amount ordered. Online ordering is available, you can order tools and amendments as well. Delivery is the way to go for large areas - try to get the earliest delivery time possible! The new sod has been in a week, my new sprinkler system is having some issues (my fault), yet even with watering by hand the sod doing well and looks great! read more

I did my homework before sodding. I removed the old grass the old fashioned way (shovel and sweat), ph tested and amended the soil, redid the irrigation and graded the plot. I debated back and forth on seeding or sodding and the area was so small, I figured I would give sodding a go as the price for California Sod was reasonable, even compared to box stores. I picked up 336 sqft of fescue to do my front yard. Much to my dismay, I payed it and the first 10 pieces or so were lush and beautiful. The rest were yellowing and browning. I called for advise and they told me to lay them and follow the watering procedures (3x day for the first 10 days, 1x the next 10 days, then 3 times per week) and it should come back. I wasted a lot of water those first three weeks. As I figured it would, the yellowing pieces died off so I called for support. I was put in touch with Renato who told me I needed to cut back on watering and to fertilize, that would surely bring it back. Well, I gave it two weeks and it didn't come back. He told me at any time, I could come pick up replacement pieces but I was very clear I didn't want to dig it up and relay it. I asked for a bag of seed and a bag of topsoil to repair the problem areas, instead. He obliged and dropped it at my house in anaheim hills. I removed the dead spots to bare soil, turned the soil and seeded, then added some top soil and started fertilizer. The lawn is thick and green after a few short weeks and I'm a happy camper. Being in sales myself, I get that stuff happens and am always willing to give companies a chance to make it right. Well, they did. Backyard will probably get seeded instead but I appreciated the customer support (Renato drove from chino to Anaheim Hills twice), especially for a customer that bought less than a pallet, and it all worked out great in the end. I will be buying plenty more products from this company. read more

First off the grass did not arrived fresh. We water it as much as posible to bring the dried out parts back to life. My gardener immediately informed me that the grass was mixed. We contacted them and they promised to solve the problem. They came twice and said they would come a third time to check on it and if the mixed grass was still growing they would replace at least the bad parts. They never came a third time and blame the backyard saying the bad grass and weed seed was there before hand. My backyard was bare for more than a year. It is simply impossible. We paid the price of St Augustine grass and got it mixed with other grass and weed. Very bad experience and they never took responsibility even thought we took pictures and they saw the problem in person. Make sure you check your grass sod before installing. Our front yard looked dry and unattractive before laying fescue sod from the California Sod Center. I was initially looking at ordering our sod from a big-box hardware store, but they couldn't give me the amount that I needs per square feet and the price was WAY too expensive. I liked the California Sod Center's informative website, explaining how they grow their sod, how to prepare my yard for the sod, during installation and thereafter. I ended up calling the office to set up a delivery the week we were planning to prep our yard. The young lady on the phone was very personable and knowledgeable, processing my order quickly. They deliver everyday and the sod can be ordered in advance or within one to two days of your delivery date. I could've came to the office to pick up some sod. We prepped the yard, removed the weeds, etc. on a Saturday and the sod came on Sunday morning between the time they gave us the day before. They called to give us our delivery window. The gentleman placed the sod in our driveway so we could easily transfer the sod to our front yard area. He also left a brochure of sod care instructions and gave me some pointers when laying the sod. He was a nice guy too. We got the sod laid all in one day and watered it well. It was a BIG job, but the sod brought life to our front yard. We were first-timers, but the quality of the sod made it easy to lay out. The prep work was the hardest part for sure. We continue to get compliments on our yard from the neighbors and our guests. This is regarding customer service. This company is solid in backing up their word on providing quality sod and excellent customer service. Long story short: I bought some sod and it died due to lack of proper watering system that was my fault. I asked for help and they recommended putting in a full sprinkler system and in return they would replace all the sod. True to their word; I saved up, put in a better system and they delivered the sod free of charge. I placed a small order for my home. When I called to confirm I specifically requested the location for the drop off near the parkway that I was putting the sod in. It was delivered to the opposite side of the house. No ring at the door no phone call in advance. If you want your order delivered to a specific location to ease your work be very specific when you call. And ask them to call you prior to arrival. Then you can meet the truck driver and share exactly where you want it This would've been helpful to know in advance. Unfortunately the phone operator never specified my request to place the sod on the driveway. I had to physically move each roll myself. Tripled the job. California Sod has awesome employees but their sod is horrible I mean it's bad, I ordered 850 of St Augustine, waited over 6 weeks for it and when I finally picked it up and came home it was bad. Worse raid I have ever seen and I'm talking about St Augustine suppose to be the best. The sod pieces fell apart when you picked them up, sod had no soil or very little holding them together. I'm very upset and disappointed. They were not honest and they knew what they sold to me and many more people. I would take it back but it was a hassle picking it up. I ordered some sod worth 350 dollars on 2/24/20 I placed more ordered left minor details as to time frame and location of where sod could be placed . Following. Say I had other employee confirm my order we went over details as in I wouldn't be home I would be at work and my husband time of last drop off and again placement of sod . Now today it's time for my sod to come !!!! Driver never contacts me but tells his office he did , I have the ring app and I seen him after reviewing it ring it once less then 10 seconds he's already dumping the sod on the st issue is I have a fire hydrant and mail boxes on right and left side of our home we all know you can not block the fire hydrant and give at least so many feet in case of an emergency. I spoke to a so-called manager Monica Explain in detail what I spoke to her other office personnel her driver never attempt to call me and I didn't know that you had less than 10 seconds to get to a door !!!!!! My Community is brand new less than four months old these homes have big lots . So unfortunately I had the city called on me because it was placed on the street in a fire zone dirt flying everywhere since it's extremely windy , and lost more the half my day at work to address the issue as well as paying extra for my landscapers who would have to work harder when it could've easily been delivered as asked nearest to the backyard and got Confirmation twice !!!!!!! I did ask the manager Monica to have some courtesy at most to make things right to avoid all of this and her answer was no her driver would not go back ! So California side I suggest you get a new manager I will also be contacting the Better Business Bureau!
