My wife and I visited on 11/23/25 and had an amazing time on the Enrichment Tour. Our tour guide clearly loved the wolves, and was so knowledgeable! She made the tour engaging even when wolves weren't directly in sight, and we learned so much about the conservation work the center does! The tour consisted of a short preface about the center and how to behave in front of the wolves. There was a short, mostly flat walk to the first enclosure where we saw and learned about the ambassador Rocky Mountain wolves. Then another short, flat walk to the second enclosure where we saw and learned about the ambassador pack of Mexican grey wolves. When we arrived, we waited for an escort to lead us down the road to the center. Once everyone in our tour had arrived, we drove into the property and parked in a gravel lot. The road is narrow but nothing crazy, and it was also an easy walk from the parking lot to the tour itself. Porta potties are available to use before and during the tour, but if they aren't your jam you will want to use a restroom beforehand. read more

Joe was a fantastic tour guide! We had an amazing visit to the Wolf Center. We specifically booked a Saturday enrichment tour so we had a better chance of seeing the wolves and seeing them interact. The enrichment included treats and fox urine for the wolves. Poppy and Yana were more playful than their brothers Thor and Durango, they walked the fence line and explored. The email instructions are very clear and the rule are strict for the wolves safety. They have a small gift shop on site, and a bigger one down in julian to check out. I loved the experience. Follow the specific directions in the email. Wait by the sign close to your reservation. Staff will in fact be there to drive you to the compound where the wolves are. Stay on the trail as there can be rattlesnakes. There's ample parking for free. We did the enrichment tour which was interesting to say the least. We learned a lot and guide was very passionate about the wolves. There are 22 wolves and we only saw four. Would have loved to see more. Please use the bathroom beforehand as the porta potties on site are filthy. read more

We booked the Enrichment Tour. It was very much what I expected, geared towards learning about wolves. I absolutely loved it. Our guide was an extremely knowledgeable, engaging, friendly and extremely patient with kid's questions. These apex predators are fascinating to me and in my opinion it is a worthwhile experience for kids and adults. Great experience! We took a day trip from North County to Julian. Scheduled an enrichment tour around 4pm and it lasted 2 hours. You meet the staff at the entrance of the center, check in, and then follow their vehicle along a dirt road until you get to the center. Drive is bumpy but not dangerous. There were about 15 of us in the group, all ages. Bathrooms available. The staff was very knowledgable and answered our groups questions. We were able to see 5-6 wolves and learn about how they have been taken care of and their personalities. The enrichment tour includes the staff feeding them/adding sensory items to the enclosures. Plenty of time and space to take images and photos. Since we booked an evening tour, we caught them howling at dusk! What a great experience. read more

We made a day on visiting Julian and learned this Wolf Center existed. So glad we decided to visit! This was the sleeper of our day trip. What a great experience. Who knew that you could see North American Wolves an hour drive from home? I hope they don't get out. LOL From the ticket purchase online to driving away, this experience was easy, fun and educational. Ordered tickets online and paid a little extra for the "Enrichment Experience". I wasnt sure what it was but it was like $15 more so why not, and all the other enrichment times we fully booked so I joined the crowd and got them. It paid off. Included in the enrichment experience was a little feeding of the wolves. I will get to that. So, you drive up to Julian and keep going. You can probably get up there from the 8 and past Alpine, but I am from the middle of SD so Julian was enroute (another bonus to the trip). You arrive 30 minutes prior to be escorted on the reserve. A small brief to start with safety and a little about the conservation area and then right to the wolves. The one downside to the viewing, f at all a downside, was the huge fence and limited wolves. This was a minimal downside because I wouldn't want to see them without the fence and especially not more LOL. The Enrichment was awesome because they came right up to the fence for the food. We were about 2 feet from real live wolves. So cool. The other cool part was the educational information. I had no idea a lot of these things so we learned a lot. I suggest everyone try this tour. It isn't cheesy or touristy. It is educational and interesting and the proceeds go to helping the wolves, all non-profit. Check it out! read more

Everyone had to meet at the end of the road and wait for someone to check us in. Once we checked in, we drove about a mile to the center. It's a short walk from the parking lot to the meet up point. There are Porta-potties there but no real bathrooms. One of them is wheelchair accessible. Then, after a short introduction, you walk down a dirt road to the first enclosure. This road is NOT wheelchair friendly. The brick path to the second enclosure was much better. Our guide, Sharon, and volunteer Sarah were both knowledgeable and friendly. There were 2 wolves in each enclosure and we got good looks at all of them. The Center is dedicated to education and conservation, and they work with other groups to maintain genetic diversity among the wild packs. The process of releasing wolf pups into the wild was fascinating. Definitely worth the visit as long as you are not mobility challenged. read more

I have been meaning to check out CWC since I moved to San Diego a decade ago. I finally made time while a friend was in town yesterday and I can't believe I waited so long! Our tour guide, Nicole, was funny, friendly, and super knowledgable. She was able to answer everyone's questions without pause and kept it entertaining. The wolves appear to be very well cared for, and their comfort and sense of safety comes first based on all of the rules and procedures set in place for guests and employees. The work CWC does is so valuable to our ecosystem. Next time you are in Julian, please attend a tour and/or buy some merch from their gift shops to support their continued conservation efforts. read more

Definitely a neat experience if you're into wolves or conservation! Wolf sanctuaries are rare in the States and often need a drive to access - this one is no different in that it's about an hour away from San Diego. We got online tickets - and opted for the upgrade which includes the handlers giving the wolves stimuli like treats and "toys." I can't compare what the normal ticket is like, but we were happy with what we got in this version. Upon arrival in your car, you wait in your car for an escort to check you in and bring you through the gate (I think because the road is single-file so they make sure there's only one flow of traffic). You then get out of your car and visit 2 pens (at least that's what we did) - as you watch the wolves interact with their environment. Our "docent" was really awesome in being informative and entertaining - honestly big kudos to her and for finding a career that really plays to her strengths. We learned a lot about the different kinds of wolves, how endangered they are, and also the history of how their false narrative got them to this situation. You learn about how they're cared for, how they interact with each other, and how the staff works in their best interest. In the end, there's time for all questions and also a really quaint gift shop which is very reasonably priced. We got some cool coasters, candles, and a pin :) read more

This is NOT a zoo or sanctuary (rescues), but rather, it is a conservatory. It is their mission to keep wolves from going extinct and they do this by educating humans, volunteers and donations. We went to the Wolf Center Store in the town of Julian, California and inquired about visiting the wolves. We were given instructions of how to get to the sanctuary, which is maybe 10 minutes outside of Julian. An intern met us with a car and we were told to follow him to the sanctuary down the road. We were met by an educator that lead us to see two 1/2 acre fenced-in lots to observe a total of 4 wolves. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the wolves and learning a ton about their plight. This is NOT a place to pet wolves or call out to them; because it's NOT their mission to interact with humans. There was a lot of talking and observing from a considerable distance. Definitely something that I thoroughly enjoyed, but perhaps 5 and under would not get a lot out of it. We paid $30 each. read more
