Located on 50 Rose Street in Fitzroy, the store's close proximity to the Rose Street Artist Market is a boon to it's existence. Sharing a space with Mottanai Vintage Cycle keeps things interesting. Perusing vintage bikes while waiting for your meal puts an ironic spin on things, given that many people in India ride old and rusty bikes too. The furniture is albeit low, but well put together. Old milk crates double up as tables while short stools dot the space in abundance. My friend and I shared 2 Dosas, one filled with masala potatoes and the other filled with smokey eggplant. The crisp dough made of fermented rice and lentil batter had a hint of acidity to it. Also, there are lentil poppers which make for a good snack. That being said, the star of the show is the wide range of chutneys. I would recommend getting the hot chili one if you are not afraid of pain. At this price point ($9), these guys are over-providing. The treats are both vegan and gluten-free too. What are you waiting for?

For those not in the know dosas are very thin crepes traditionally filled with spiced potato. Overdosa's menu is simple offering potato masala, spiced pumpkin or eggplant filling. Your dosa also comes with either a coconut or hot chilli chutney. You can also order poppers which are delicious fried lentil balls. We had the potato masala and the poppers with coconut chutney. I'm no expert but my companion who is Indian rated them very highly. They are hot fast and delicious. He devoured the poppers so quickly I only managed a couple. All the options here are vegan and although I am a sworn carnivore I can say that it was so tasty it didn't matter. The guys are super friendly and really keen to hear what you think of their food and have a chat. They will be at the Evelyn on Brunswick st over Anzac weekend and then they fly to India to spend a few months collecting recipes to expand their offerings and possibly open a restaurant. If you are in the mood for Indian I highly recommend checking them out.

On the smaller side in terms of the wine/cheese type event, this one seems to bring a few more of the West and central Vic wineries out. Value wise, you'd get more bang for buck at cellar door. Tickets are cheaper online than at the door, you can get an entry only or ticket with tokens. The tokens seem a bit redundant, many stalls don't seem to play by the tokens. In any case it seems strange to pay $35 at the door just to get in, then either $2 token tasting for a whole range or $2 per sample. Fine if you are not going to purchase but was slightly put off one stall where I asked to get two bottles as I went through the tastings. The guy then asked for 4 tokens after my initial one token... I paid for my wines then left. Highlights being cheeses, salami and other charcuterie goods as well as BEAUTIFUL strawberries. Some food vendors out the back also, not the usual food truck bandits so that's kind of fun. Overall a fun day but the value for money is debatable.

Unlike many other regional wine festivals you appear to get stung twice here - once to enter, and they to pay for your wine tastings. Some of the vendors treated that pretty loosely and would swap their whole range of tastings for one 'token' whereas others were a lot stingier and would try and milk one token from you per drop of wine they gave out. It all made for a bit of a confusing set-up, as did the lack of cohesion or a linking theme between all the vendors (other than: wine). Positives include lots of delicious cheese, which generally was very generous in its portions, and ample seating outdoors to put your feet up between tastings, and the setting was pretty nice too. Feels like there's a lot to learn here before things really run smoothly, but wine + cheese = always a tasty and fun time.
