Once upon a time this place was owned by the same people who own I Carusi II in St Kilda, but I was told that's no longer the case. The menu looks the same, with some of the old favourite toppings still there (I'm looking at you broccoli, lemon, chilli and parmesan) and a few specials available. If you're dining in, bring a bottle of vino because they welcome BYO. The pizzas themselves are good, but certainly not the best I've ever had. The base is a little on the thicker side, which means you probably can't eat as many slices as you'd like. Let's face it, I'm a guts and I love eating an entire thin-based pizza myself. With the pizzas from I Carusi, I needed to tap our after a few slices which was a shame because the toppings were tasty and I loved the overall flavour. I'll be back the next time I need a vege-out night on the couch.

It's all about who and what's behind the kitchen that is the real deal! Their second store appropriately named I Carusi II offers a similar lay out, same menu and similar atmosphere. Both the St Kilda Store and the Brunswick store work off a cash only basis and they prefer that you book in advance to avoid disappointment. If you get a chance to look at the menu online I recommend it as there is so much to choose from you will feel you have to give credit to everything! This is why dining in a larger group heightens the I I Carusi experience as share plates are a great way to get started followed by a mix-match array of many pizza choices. I would highly recommend the Salmone - Tomato Base, Marscapone, Smoked Salmone and Fish Roe with Dill. The Americano, Quattro Formaggi and the Speciale -Tomato, mozzarella, soppressa, roasted peppers, artichokes & olives. Who am I kidding I've tried them all... even the Margherita is amazing. Pizza is priced at around $15-20 and servings are generouse. Dessert Pizza is also a favorite with Nutella calzone and white chocolate and peach! Yum.

They salads are really decent for a lunch option too - yummy and filling. The atmosphere is mostly couples and young groups, but we did have a 4 year old in our dining party on last visit and they took good care of her. The staff were really accommodating and also offered a plain chicken-and-cheese quesadilla to avoid any tears over spicy food. I wouldn't suggest coming here with a whole hoard of children, but for the most part it's both adult and family friendly. All orders are taken at the counter, be it take away or dine-in. Getting a seat can be a little tricky in peak times as it's a walk-in restaurant unless you're booking for a large group. But the style of ordering makes it fairly fast turn over. They'd probably make a lot more money on booze if they did table service, but I guess it moves people through faster too.
