I am awaiting a response from the Owner of Carl's. My husband purchased flowers for Mother's Day…read morelast year from Carl's in West Kelowna and they were stunning. I am a certified Florist and worked in shops and managed floral departments at Canada Safeways as well. The flowers I received last Mother's day were exceptionally fresh. A monster bouquet, too many frankly for me...as I genuinely believe in creating arrangements that are Simple, and focus on the beauty of the flowers and not all the unncessary greens stuffed in to fill a vase. The flowers were, truly lovely and lasted about 2 weeks! My husband ordered 1 dozen roses for our 45th Anniversary and brought them home this morning. Shame on Carl's. The roses I received were atleast 2 weeks old, probably closer to 3. . I suspect they over ordered Roses for Mother's Day and these were what's left. Instead of tossing them, they just held on to them. Most of the leaves on the roses were dead, and spotted or blackened. The roses themselves were obviously not culled and treated properly when received. My guess is they were simply thrown in a bucket of water. The petals are so wrinkled from dryness and age.. I have never seen roses in that condition before. I have received many boxes of 200 roses at a time, and recut the stems on a sharp angle with a knife, pinched off the rose thorns, removed all bruise petals and never used scissors for your roses. Leaves are always removed at the water line and below so they don't rot. Compressing rose stemps with scissors when they are cut, means they can't drink properly! Buckets should always be bleached and there should always be enough flower food, with the buckets being cleaned every 3-4 days using the above process. Roses are more susceptible to bacteria than any other fresh cut flower. If they aren't cleaned and the buckets aren't treated properly, your roses will never open. Old roses will have their heads dropped. They will not last. I have two baggies full of rotted leaves, and wrinkled petals which are stored in my fridge ready to show the owner if and when they contact me. Even the greens weren't fresh with black spots on the leaves. The large Philodendrom leaf they stuffed in was rotten at the stem and even the Baby's breath which NO ONE uses any more in arrangements was not fresh. WOW! That was without a doubt the worst condition I have ever seen flowers in more than 20 years! Take the time to train your staff properly please; follow your ordering from year to year in order to keep enough flowers with as little distress as possible. Distressing perishable product can be a very costly venture in a flower shop. Finally, check the flowers in your cooler every day, and toss what isn't good. Dead or sick flowers won't help your sales ever.

Carls Flower Company - this is the design i ordered, or very close to it since they did not have all pink roses

Also, I received a phone call from a man (not a gentleman) who said he was the owner and assaulted my ears without giving me a chance to explain anything and promptly hung up before I could speak. Most disappointing in customer relations. By the way, I've told 2 friends of our dealings with Carl's Flowers.

I took back following morning after funeral and complained, did they not only look like a cheap arrangement but flowers wilting as well. The owner finally phoned me at near end of day and gave me an option of nothing or some arrangement she would make for me. I said i want half money back, but she gave me a hard no,, amazing how incompetent some owners are,, she could have avoided this embarrassing review, plus i bought about 4 dozen roses a year from her business, well over 600 annually, again some people are not the sharpest tool in the shed,, lost my business. in pics pink arrangement is what i ordered knowing that they would have be fewer pink roses, the other arrangement she tried telling me its worth every cent i payed..lol
