We stayed one night as a family of 4. Super cute place! The woman who checked us in was really friendly and recommended the local brewery for dinner (delish, btw). Comfortable bed. Nice size room. Breakfast was in the basement, and it was an extremely nice spread. I loved the whole vibe of the place. The man that worked the next morning wasn't too friendly-but maybe he had a bad night. We will definitely stay again if we are in the area again. read more

Don't let the old building fool you. This motel was quite nice! The beds were comfortable. The room was clean and spacious. Usually old buildings are tiny and cramped. The bathroom was nice and roomy. My only complaint would be the noise you can here through the walls. We could hear the person next door snoring. read more

Hotel appears to have been recently remodeled. It is within walking distance to downtown, coffee, and across the street from the Sheriff's Office. Was very clean, quiet, and easy to get to. We stayed two nights and from the looks of it appeared to be the best hotel in town. The complimentary breakfast wasn't my style but I cant knock them on stars because it had most quick service goodies, scones, yogurt etc. I think they are still taking precaution because of covid. read more

Wow, to see this kind of luxury in the middle of farmland is amazing! The restaurant is fantastic and the courtyard is unbelievable The owner has created a masterpiece. The restaurant, the Onyx Bar and Grill, has a separate posting. One suggestion for the hotel would be a collage of pictures for the renovation and a flyer in each room. Your marketing of the hotel hooked us. I think it might have been a google ad that we clicked on but now I can't remember. Celebrate the history through pictures throughout the Hotel. This hotel is indeed open! It reopened 2months ago after a serious remodel and it's amazing... I was a bit skeptical because Lewistown is so small. Stayed here while doing a travel nurse gig 7/19-7/23. When I arrived on a Wednesday I felt like the only guest. The people who work here are so sweet and helpful. My room was immaculate. Can't say enough about the bathroom! The tub and shower were used everyday. The tub even has a place to put chilled champagne next to it if you're so inclined. The bed was super comfortable and had at least 5 pillows on it which always makes me happy. The complimentary breakfast was good. Real fresh warms eggs, sausage, bacon, hash browns,yogurt with toppings, and drag baked goods. They have these pecan Carmel sticky buns and they're to die for.. I kind of wish I never tried them because everyday I was there it was a struggle not to eat them. When I come back to Lewistown I will definitely be staying here! Only complaint is the hot water takes at least 5 min to come on in the shower. By the second day I just the water while I was brushing my teeth then got in when it was warm. We travel Montana and the surrounding states all year long. We finally were able to make it to the Chokecherry Festival this year. We booked rooms at the Calvert since it was off the Main Street, but just close enough. I can not describe the absolute perfection of every single thing about this stunning property. We usually do AirBnB but occasionally we are lucky enough to stumble on a gem like this place. First and foremost, it is impeccably clean. Every corner, nook and cranny (whatever a cranny is?) Everything is new. Carpet, paint, fixtures, linens. So gorgeous and so comfortable. Did I mention comfortable??? The beds are gorgeous and they absolutely swallow you in their luxury. The towels and robes are also wonderful. Our room had a huge claw foot tip AND a double shower....I could have lounged in that tub till my fingers wrinkled... We went to The Mint, just down the street for an equally amazing dinner, walked around town and then back to our gorgeous room. The whole hotel pallet is so beautiful with stunning artwork and fabulous marble and onyx. Our breakfast was TO DIE FOR. Fresh breads, eggs meats fruits ...too much to mention. But definitely delicious. I can and will recommend this property 100% to friends and family. We will also definitely look forward to weekend getaways at the Calvert. It's worth every penny spent, don't miss a chance to try this place out!! read more

Pending review Great Experience, definitely the nicest place to stay in Lewistown. First, I'd like to begin by addressing that the Calvert Hotel is under new management and negative reviews dating from before June of 2018 are addressing complaints from different management. I am a long-time resident of Lewistown and over the years have spent time in most of the hotels in the area. By far, the Calvert is the most luxury hotel around. The building is beautiful - both inside and out. The rooms feel fresh and clean and are highly maintained. If you do have the opportunity to stay in a king suite, you will certainly be impressed by the marble bathroom and the comfortable beds. The other rooms are of a higher quality than any other hotel you will find in Lewistown. The reason we ended up staying at the Calvert was due to the fact that the Yogo Inn had lost our reservation and then had no rooms available. We had family coming from all over the country for a wedding, and we were in a pinch as there are not a lot of options in Lewistown. My friend phoned the Calvert, and, miraculously, they offered to let us stay in their hotel before it's official opening. They staffed the building for only a handful of guests. The staff was entirely welcoming and helpful, and they even prepared delicious cinnamon rolls just for our party. As I mentioned, my family was in town for a wedding, and we were unlucky to wake up to heavy rain and wind on the day of the ceremony. Again, we were in a pinch, as taking wedding photos outdoors was no longer an option. And, once again, the Calvert came through for us. We were permitted to take our photos all over the hotel (lobby, various rooms, etc.). There is also a beautiful atrium/courtyard in the center of the hotel with natural lighting. Overall, my impression is that the Calvert is by far and away the nicest hotel in Lewistown, both structurally and in terms of service. This is the only hotel I would recommend to friends and family. read more

I have stayed here a couple times before it was renovated (and lived to tell about it!) and to see the renovations now is amazing. They did a very nice job and it's refreshing to see a business in Lewistown that cares. We stayed here for our wedding night and were very impressed with the accomodations. The bathroom had a clawfoot tub and the shower was awesome. The only tiny thing I can complain about is that one showerhead in the bathroom was very finicky and wouldn't stay where I wanted it and the water was either freezing or burning hot. Just needs some adjusting. The other showerheads worked fine. We also couldn't figure out how to turn the fireplace on. Overall, very nice place for the money. We will stay here again if we ever need a hotel in Lewistown. read more

I liked the Calvert, but there are a few things about it that are just...off. For starters, they have great curb appeal - it's a renovated historic building, and the exterior is beautiful (especially the flowers!). However, the neon "(no) vacancy" sign kind of takes away a little bit. Next up, I don't think it's a handicap-friendly hotel, although the restaurant downstairs has one of those stair chairs (hilarious!) so maybe you can ride that down and hit an elevator in the middle of the building somewhere. If you have a heavy suitcase or a lot of stuff to haul into the hotel (like the sampling equipment that my coworkers & I had), you might find the front stairs annoying. Plus, the front door then doesn't open as far as it seems like it should - kind of problematic with all of the equipment we had. On to the rooms. Mine was really nice - super comfy beds and nice linens, but the pillows were way too fluffy for my liking and they all seemed to be the same. Some variety would be nice! There's a nice big TV down in one end of the room by a little table and chair, but this leads me to the part I found most annoying...there are no lamps! The only lights the room are the wall lights over the beds. That means no working on your laptop at the table after dark, and when you're reading a book in bed and are finally about to doze off, you have to get up and turn the lights off. The rooms were also lacking storage - there's no dresser or closet, and the lack of storage space in the bathroom was also irksome (although the bathroom was really nicely remodeled!). I tend to take very few toiletries with me when I'm doing field work, and I still had a hard time making space for the few things I needed in the bathroom. The breakfast area is really small, so you either have to time it just right to get a table, stand around and eat, take food back to your room, or eat it on your way out the door. I didn't find the breakfast options to be very enticing - a few cereals and English muffins, juices, yogurt, and a few breakfast bars. I guess they did away with the waffle iron that someone else mentioned! At any rate, the Calvert is probably the best bang for your buck in Lewistown (and almost certainly nicer than the few other options!) - definitely worth checking out! read more

Wow! I can't say enough good things about the Calvert Hotel. We recently hosted a wedding in Lewistown and the Calvert went above and beyond to accommodate our every need. The rooms, lobby, atrium and restaurant space were not only beautiful, but comfortable as well. And, the staff was outstandingly courteous and helpful and went way above and beyond to make things work when the weather outside was far less than desirable. The Calvert is an historic hotel that has been beautifully renovated. It was closed for a few months but reopened in June 2018. Lewistown is so lucky to have it back in all its glory. It is not your average hotel. If you are looking for something special and memorable, the Calvert is the place to stay. I have never experienced the outstanding level of hospitality which I received at the Calvert, at any other hotel. I will recommend the Calvert Hotel to all of my family's visitors. read more

This is the only place to stay in the Lewistown area. Finally a nice hotel!!! Beautiful historic building. And you get an actual key to your room (vs. key card). Staff is awesome, and rooms were super clean. Best night sleep I've had in a long time. Excellent real breakfast served in the morning. Nothing compares in town and the Calvert is the only place I'll stay going forward when visiting central MT. The new ownership seems to have made a nice positive difference. Lots of charm. I'd highly recommend. Only Downside in my opinion: wish there was a bar /restaurant in hotel. However not a deal killer by any means. (There are plenty of nearby bars within walking distance). I believe the Hotel will cater for groups/functions, if I'm not mistaken. read more

The Calvert Hotel was recommended to me by a friend from work, and I owe them big time! This is a great historic hotel with the feel of a boutique that you'd be happy to find anywhere across the country. The lobby has great character with an old phone booth, great tiled floors, and a nice sitting room. My room is fairly standard, but clean, neat, nicely decorated with a big TV and overlooks the courtyard-esque seating area connected to the Onyx Bar & Grill. The bathroom also has nice tiling work, which adds to the room, and the hotels overall atmosphere. I also like that, being a historic hotel, the Calvert still uses actual keys, instead of any of the new card systems. Call it "retro" if you want, but I like the fact that this place has stayed as authentic as possible. I've been fortunate enough to stay in some pretty cool hotels in some pretty cool places all over the country, and I like the Calvert as much as any of them... And so does my wallet. read more

I wish there was a rating lower than one star if it wasn't for the friendly female when we checked in I would rate it less! First thing they're Jacuzzi suite is a bathtub with jets! Second thing there is no elevator so be ready to climb flights of stairs to your room with bags in hand! Third and not least their idea of a continental breakfast is toast and bananas with OJ and coffee, no other food then that! What a waste of money I would never stay here again!!!! read more

You're not going to find anywhere as warm and comfy in town as this place! It's really cute inside, continental breakfast included and has maintained its historical vibe while still having nice updates with bathroom fixtures and flatscreen TVs and such. The room was great- just what I needed to get out of the cold for the night. My fave part was that they have a restaurant downstairs. Perfect spot and accessible without going back outside in the cold. I'll review that as well. This hotel is definitely the best place to stay in town and it's only $100 a night so check it out. Nothing else comes close to the lovely stay that awaits you here. I was in town for work and was actually sorry I didn't get to spend more time with the people/owners I met here. This hotel has the absolute most friendly staff I've ever encountered, especially Deb- she's amazing! The hotel itself is beautifully restored; obviously no expenses spared. Breakfast was thin, but the granola was very good. Our dog scratched the solid wooden door, and they could've taken us to the bank for a replacement but didn't! In fact, they were super nice and understanding about it. You just don't find that kind of good hearted, honest business anymore. We'll always stay here when we go to Lewistown. read more

This is a 5 star hotel at a 2 star price. Locally owned and fits the local styles, but it is immaculate and every amenity is done better than you would expect. No scratched furniture, no worn bed spreads, not dull staff. Everyone who works here clearly shows some pride and they are the employees! This place has been in renovation for a few years with a new owner and the result shows. This was over a hundred years old and has been transformed to perfection with all the old charm and authenticity built into bigger modern rooms, quality furnishings, HDTV and beautiful baths. Even if you don't need the Onyx bar, take a look. It too will knock your socks off. I would not only recommend this to a friend, I would guarantee it is worth going out of your way to stay here. The only downside for me was the TV in the breakfast area was tuned to the local channel with kids riding horses and learning to shoot guns. Maybe MSNBC does not appeal as much in the western states. read more

After spending 2 nights at another very outdated motel in town, I happened upon the Calvert. What a great place. From the entrance full of plants to the tastefully decorated lobby to the hors d'oeuvres - smoked salmon and cream cheese rollups this evening - it was such a nice change. But then the room had a jetted tub! and a sauna! and a breakfast nook. Over the top... The atrium is an amazing touch and then you have to see the lighted onyx bar below. This is a place you'll want to stay - and will definitely return to once you've been here. read more

The hotel is a great place to stay with one exception, the walls don't provide enough sound block between guest rooms. I could hear the guests in the next room and their television well past midnight, each night. They didn't have the volume up very high and were not particularly loud. Loved this hotel. Staff are fabulous. Very friendly and always working to impress. The rooms are beautiful. The linens are absolutely the highest quality. Generous pillows and even chocolate on the pillows. Just a bit odd with no drawers/or closets to hang clothing. Shower is awesome, the italian tiling in the bathroom is gorgeous. We thought we would skip the freeway and head into the heart of Montana on our way back from the West Coast to North Dakota. This was our one big splurge for ourselves this summer. What a disappointment. The internet was slow and almost non-exsistant. When I called the hotel lobby to tell them about it, their response was "Oh well the hotel is full and there are too many users". When I called to make the reservations I told them I was a teacher and needed to work on school stuff online. They assured me they had great internet! The truth would have worked better. The next morning my wife and I ran out of hot water during our showers. Again I told the hotel staff about this and again their response was that the hotel was pretty full! Apparently they had previously run out of toilet paper because when we noticed we were running low in the morning we looked around to discover we didn't have any extra rolls! The coffee was undrinkable and parking non-existent. We had to park on the street and haul our own luggage up two flights of stairs. The television was on a back wall and impossible to see. Avoid this place like the plague. Stay on the freeway and go through Billings, MT and get a hotel for 1/2 the price with full amenities. read more

With amazingly affordable rates, excellent amenities, and just blocks from downtown Lewistown, the Calvert Hotel is one of the best hotels in Montana. We stayed there for three nights and were blown away by how comfortable our stay was. The rooms were immaculately clean. the beds were super soft, the towels and sheets were fluffy, and the showers were steaming hot with high, classy fixtures. With all of these comforts, the hotel maintained a minimalist, rustic atmosphere. The place is historic. It was originally a dormitory for ranching kids who had to travel long distances to Lewistown to attend school. It is one block away from the historic courthouse, Carnegie Library and Main Street. We learned that Senator Baucus used to stay there with foreign diplomats during his Montana Ambassadors Tours promoting Montana's beef and grain. The place is all around great, and we highly recommend it to anyone planning a trip to Lewistown, Montana! read more

Let me start with the good! The staff were so great. Very nice and friendly. The hotel is really beautiful. Ok, now the not so great. My friend and I drove from California to Montana to dualsport on our motorcycles and check on my property. We had a lot of bags! Parking is very limited. We parked just round the corner. With large heavy bags, going up the staircase to the hotel doors was difficult and then having to climb the stairs to the second floor was no picnic. But, that is part of the charm of being old I guess. I had reserved the last room they had left. It was a King Suite on the corner. I had just assumed there would be certain amenities. There is no mini fridge and no microwave or coffee maker. The bathroom is fantastic looking but not very practical. There is absolutely no counter space in the bathroom. I had to put my toiletries on the bathroom tank. The shower was a double header. But I could not figure out the side with the body jets (couldn't seem to get the hot water there). There was a beautiful tub with a champagne bottle holder next to it. We just didn't need these. I would have preferred some counter space instead. Yes, the pillows are way to fluffy and round. Not really usable. Luckily there were other pillows. There was a "fireplace" in the room. It really just looks like a small window with gas logs. Our pull out bed was in pretty bad shape. It was really hard to sleep on. Also the couch cushions had stains on them. This would be a great place for a couple getting away for a night or two. But I need convenience. Again let me say again that the staff was great! I might just go back to say hello. read more
