Runaway, Bride! Run, don't walk away from Calvet Couture. Save yourself the headache of incompetence and lack of accountability. Receiving your wedding dress should be a joyous occasion, but not when you are measured wrong and promised something different than what you've received. Here is my daughter's story. She found her dress at Calvet Couture. It was hard to completely visualize how the dress would look as the sample dresses did not fit properly. The concern was what the line of the dress would look like on her back; what would and wouldn't be exposed. The consultant held the dress on her back to show her how the line of the dress would be if the dress was the proper size. This reassured her there would be enough coverage. She was also concerned about the plunging neck line. She was told for an up charge the deep "V" could be brought up and this would look much better if done in manufacturing than in alterations. This was a lie and a waste of $200. Based on the information the consultant told us, we proceeded with the purchase. The consultant measured my daughter March 18, 2023. We were told the dress would arrive late July for her November destination wedding. On September 13th my daughter received an email the dress was in. She picked up the dress and was horrified as to how it fit. The dress completely exposed her back. The back was supposed to have a V-line to it, from the shoulder meeting at the zipper at the waist line. The sales associate held the sample on my daughter's back, showing a line from her shoulder to the zipper, but the problem was the sales associate measured my daughter incorrectly, by 3.5 inches! Because the dress was small, the dress pulled forward and the back was more of a "U" than a "V". During this 'crisis' moment, we found out Calvet Couture does not have in-house seamstresses. We were given a list of 7 seamstresses, some of which were in Venice, my daughter lives in Parrish. We made the decision to go to Something Blue in Bradenton. The neckline still plunged far too deep for our liking. It still needed to be taken up. When we told the seamstress what the consultant said about it looking better if the manufacturer did it, she said that was completely false. She added stitching to close up the "V", of course at an additional cost. The $200 we paid Calvet for this was a complete waste. We paid this in good faith, trusting them. Because of them, we essentially paid for this work to be done twice. Once the neckline was raised, you wouldn't know this was not done at the manufacturer, so DO NOT believe them when they try to bilk you out of the extra $200. Now the back was a different issue. The owner of Something Blue measure my daughter and found the error in the measurements. My daughter lost 20 pounds from the time of the dress purchase to that point. When that was brought up to Calvet, they actually tried to say that because my daughter lost weight, her measurements increased. Anyone with 2 connecting brain cells knows you get smaller when you lose weight, not bigger. We trusted the consultant knew what she was doing when she measured my daughter. She alone is responsible for the dress being too small. The creativity of the seamstresses of Something Blue saved the day. They took the extra fabric from the bows and used it to create an illusion back. It recreated the actual line the dress should have been. If you look at the final pictures of the back of the dress, you can see the area they added does not have the liner, but it looks like the dress was manufactured that way! They also replaced the clear netting in the "V"s on the side under her under her arm. Not only did this help the back look like it was made that way, it allowed for them to increase the size of the "V"s allowing the bodice of the dress to become bigger. Pure genius on their part. I reached out to Calvet for them to own their mistake. I asked for a reimbursement of the $428 we were out because of their consultants misleading statements and mismeasurement. When given the opportunity to right the wrong they made, they didn't even have the courtesy to answer my email. I followed up with a call almost 2 weeks later. I was told they didn't mismeasure her, just given excuses. I asked for 15% of the purchase price as compensation for what we were out. We all know their profit margin is far greater than that. They could have done the right thing and refunded the up charge for closing the "V" and they could have reimbursed my daughter the alteration charge incurred for their mis-measurement. They chose not to. They chose greed over doing the right thing. I would never do business with someone like that and I hope you learn from our experience and run away. read more

When I met her she was so sweet and kind and patient. She just was easy to work with and tried different things to see what I like. My first bridal appointment of my wedding gown search was at Calvet Couture in Downtown Sarasota and I am so grateful to the staff for such a wonderful experience! I had a tight timeline between dress shopping and our event- less than 3 months! The staff understood the assignment and showed me not only off-the-rack options (that were in pristine condition and a great price BTW!) but they also suggested a few designers and dresses that they had confidence getting in store in time from their warehouse. The bridal experts were so knowledgeable of dress types, materials, designers, and fits. I got to try on every designer, style and material I was curious about, as well as a few surprises that I'm so glad I tried on! Their selection may appear small because of their boutique atmosphere but it is such a beautifully curated collection, with high quality pieces beyond what's trending. An added bonus, the large window at the storefront brings in so much gorgeous light, and occasionally people will sneak a peek from outside and cheer for their favorite! I am so grateful for this experience and encourage any bride-to-be to book an appointment here! You will be glad you did. read more

My daughter had a wonderful experience finding the wedding gown of her dreams with Erica. This was wonderful and Erica was very attentive to the bride which is obviously the most important. As the mother of the bride (and the one paying), my experience was not as pleasant. In the future it would be nice to at least introduce oneself to the family and allow them to be engaged. I went to this bridal boutique to try on my first ever wedding dress! What a beautiful store- they have a beautiful collection of dresses and veils. We had the pleasure of working with Erica, who was very kind and scheduled us at 4:30pm despite closing at 5pm. She was very knowledgable about the designers and worked with me to find some dresses within my budget. While I did not end up getting my dream dress here, I would not miss a chance to schedule an appointment at Calvet Couture because their designer gowns are gorgeous and the service was just wonderful. Found a dress that was the easy part... Erika is so sweet and nice. But the dress wasn't the issue. I bought a dress bc I was going to customize it. I picked out a specific tulle and waited longer for the tulle to come in then the dress itself. All for it to be the WRONG tulle.. I was told not all tulle will be exactly alike which I do know but this design of tulle was completely different it had big and little sparkle SPOTS and dots.... mine was supposed to be pure shimmer no dots of sparkles its completely the wrong tulle I waited 7 months for ... so I waited all this time for the wrong tulle.. not only that but now there isn't enough tulle to do the sparkley add on sleeves that we talked about... so all in all I found a dress but in the end did not get even close to what we came up with together at the salon... alterations were $730.00 dollars so I should have got exactly what I wanted and ended up with whatever they felt was good enough. BEWARE! If I could give this zero stars I would. I had the worst possible experience with Calvet Couture and lost over $2,100 because of how awful, careless, inconsiderate, negligent, and arrogant they are. I ordered my dress in December and was told it would be ready in February, March latest. To keep a long story short, Calvet Couture provided false information several times, stringing me along for months just for it to now be May and still not have my dress and they are taking no responsibility for it at all. I had to go out and buy a different wedding dress off the rack at another bridal shop because of Calvet Couture and they were unwilling to even give me store credit for the deposit that I paid with them for a dress that will not be ready in time for my wedding. Their responses are manipulative and shady... all they keep saying is they technically didn't miss the 6/1 wedding date, yet the dress is STILL NOT IN so I haven't even had a chance to do any fittings or alterations which they knew I would need at least 3. There are more awful details to the story, but I'll leave off with this - Calvet Couture has the poorest attitude and customer service and seem to take pride in being shady. read more

Shopping for a wedding dress is honestly something I had dreaded (maybe not being your "typical" female stereotype that you see in the movies and on TV with the prospective bride and bridal party jumping up and down and fawning over each other in the dresses). I grew up in Sarasota and after getting engaged in August, I made an appointment here for thanksgiving weekend when I'd be home visiting family cause I wanted my mom and Grandma to see me dress shopping. I made my appointment online, received email confirmation of my appointment and then just to be sure I also called the salon to make sure they had gotten my appointment. They said they had, and looked forward to seeing me. Well the date rolls around, I walk in fifteen minutes early with my family in tow, and I tell the woman at the desk what my name was and that I had an appointment at 11:30. She let out a small laugh and said, "No you don't." I ask her what she means, she she looks into their booking system and she says that there is no appointment for me, perhaps I was thinking of another place or their Orlando location, or maybe I had the wrong day. So I pull up my confirmation email showing no, I made my appointment for 11/25 at 11:30 am in Sarasota. Once she sees that I'm not an idiot like she tried to make me feel, she apologized and said that she didn't know what happened but my appointment was never made in their system and another girl had my slot. They tried to schedule me in later that day but I already had another visit to another store scheduled and we ended up cancelling the rescheduled appointment cause it didn't feel worth it. The gowns looked gorgeous but they made me feel awful and like I was dumb when it turned out it was a clerical error on their part, not mine. Guess I won't be getting my dress here. Ladies, triple check that they have your appointment cause their online system clearly doesn't work. read more

Needless to say I found a STUNNER and I couldn't be happier. Erica is knowledgable, sweet, honest, and professional. She also has a great intuition and eye for detail. Erica is a lifesaver! This was my first time wedding dress shopping and this was the first store that I went to. Erica was so personable and not only catered to everything I asked, she made sure my guests were comfortable and spent time talking with them as well. She eased us into the whole experience with great care and was wonderful to work with. The store itself is beautiful, a big mirror, great lighting, and very cozy. My party and I were the only ones there so it was easy to get personalized care! The storefront is all windows and near the end of my time there people that were walking by on the street caught sight of me in the dress I chose and gave lots of thumbs up! I loved all of my visits with Fondren, and my time at boutique. They have a small selection of high end designer gowns, that are truly stunning! My reasoning for 2 stars is not my experience leading up to my wedding, but it is what happened after I purchased and received my dress. I would shop with Fondren again, and recommend her to a friend. However, I would never recommend allowing the shop to send my dress to the seamstress they currently use. My dress was taken apart completely, and put together incorrectly. She was so set in her idea of what the dress should look like, that the small details that I loved-disappeared. I had a crazy time getting my dress because I was moving across the country right before our wedding, so I decided it would be fine to let the seamstress work on it before I left Florida. Ultimately, I paid almost $500 for alterations to be SWIMMING in the dress two days before the wedding (and no I didn't lose any inches, although that would have been nice) and had to find a seamstress in the city I got married in to rush the dress-another cost! So unfortunately I'm stuck with two alteration fees, when I could have just left with the (original) dress that was exactly what I wanted and fit great, and a dress that is just NOT what I ordered. Overall, SHOP with Fondren, she is incredibly sweet and helpful. Don't let them alter!!! It just is so sad when you spend so much and it honestly isn't what you paid for. I hate writing reviews for anything less than 4 stars but I've have let them know and they are not willing to help-so I turn to yelp to share my experience, only in hopes of saving someone from having this disaster. Instead, go to a different seamstress, and invite a few more people to your wedding with the extra money. read more
