Lovers leap is such an incredibly peaceful trail! My husband and I hiked Lovers Leap early on a Sunday morning last weekend and enjoyed every minute of it. The silence was so loud if that makes sense. The farther we went onto the trail, it began to intersect with other trails and we began to cross paths with bikers, other hikers, and runners. It was pretty cool to see a community of fellow nature lovers enjoying the environment. read more

It is a rather good size city park. Much of it along the river. We went to visit Miss Nellie's pretty place that is in The park. This area starts with a lovely Fountain and behind that a field of wild flowers. There is also a small flower garden and a garden with some herbs. It's a quiet and serene place filled with pretty flowers. Good for photos also. read more

Got to visit the zoo this beautiful Saturday with my baby! We had a blast. The recent storms had some exhibits closed. But we made the most of it. Got to visit the new penguin shores exhibit. I'm a freelance Model and this is one of my favorite spots when y Photographer and I want to take outdoors nature photoshoots of me. The scenary is nice at this park. Nobody bothers you out here and it is a big park the fact that it's not only just a park. They have a zoo and botanical garden at this park. The Brazos River is right next to the park. Cameron Park is also a great place to have events here and big enough for birthdays, weddings, etc. because they do have a clubhouse big enough for it. What a gift to have this park in Waco. Our family's favorite thing to do here is go on hikes. There are so many trails with a lot of variety for different difficulties. The bike trails are award-winning and many are safe for hikers. Cyclists have always been kind, polite, and patient when riding past my family. Our favorite trails are: The River Trail-- a paved and easy trail to take for a quick or longer walk, the breeze from the river is nice! And the animal sculptures they've added make it so fun for little ones. If you take the trip into the park (away from downtown) you will come upon some really beautiful and unique rock faces that my teenager loves to climb; The Pipeline Trail-- an easy trail further into the park that really makes you feel like you're in the forest-- magical and fun to walk because there is a bit of variety in the terrain; The Edge has awesome views and makes you feel like you're on the edge of a cliff! Our favorite playgrounds in the park to visit with our three-year-old are the main playground near the river (close to the splash pad) and the Northern Gateway playground near Lover's Leap. Also recommend the zoo-- what a treat to have this zoo right in the park. Cameron Park Zoo was such a pleasant surprise to us when we moved here and easily rivals zoos in bigger cities. This park is massive! One cannot simply visit once and call it a day. I spent the afternoon walking the trails near Lawson's Point where there is parking, a sand box for volleyball, and plenty of secluded, serene grass space to picnic. I couldn't find any designated restrooms nearby though. I was able to descend to the main trail that follows the river but unfortunately didn't find any overlooks or spectacular views. Still a great walk in a less traveled area. Plus, I was greeted by a friendly lizard! read more

Quite possibly the best city park in Texas. Abilene has lots of parks, and all are...ok. But nothing even close to Cameron Park. It only takes a couple of minutes to tell this is Waco's pride and joy. They tell me it's 5 miles long. I believe it. And every inch of it is well manicured and beautiful. As you drive from end to end, there are so many different areas, each one being interesting. The trail system is magnificent. Walk, run, or ride, you'll love it. The trail goes right along the bank of the river so you can enjoy nature. Lots of different play areas for your kiddos. Baseball parks, gazebos, picnic areas with grills. Cameron Park has it all. Enjoy the zoo while your there. Go to Lovers Leap! No jumping please. Congratulations Waco. Your beautiful park has impressed me. read more

I have been coming here a lot for awhile now. I love the trail system! So many trails to choose from with the level of intensity you want. There is the river walk trail which you can just have a casual stroll and the trails that branch off has their own pleasures. From here you can walk the other way toward the Chisholm trail, famous wood bridge and Baylor University. So very simply, you want a nature trail, you got it! You want a river stroll on a side walk, you have that too! Also check out Jacob's ladder! It is a whopper of a staircase! You want a challenge, there it is!! If you are like me, you have dashed through Waco many times and never ventured far off I35. HUGE MISTAKE!! Off to the West (and not too far) is a gorgeous geological gem of a park along the banks of the Brazos River. It is the Central Texas Eden. The driving path along the river is delightful. Lots of bikes, runners, walkers, kids playing and Frisbee golf. There are a few wonderful walking paths around in the park that make it worth a longer visit. There is a mountain bike course that some might say is Presidential. The drive up to the summit is cool, green and shady. Once upon the summit, get your camera out as you'll want to take pictures as you can see tens of miles away across the flat Central Texas countryside. There is a small zoo nearby plus lots of places to visit and see so slip this one in on your calendar the next time you are in the area! There are many good restaurants close by as well. Pack a picnic for the kids as they will love a few minutes in this park! read more

Cameron Park - Parks Near Me - Waco, Texas

There is something for everyone at Cameron Park! My husband and I no longer live in Waco, but when we did, this was the place we went to the most. It's conveniently located right near the Baylor University Campus and downtown and has trails for people at all activity levels. There is a paved sidewalk that goes along the Brazos River for those that want a leisurely stroll that eventually turns into a well maintained path leading to the MCC campus. This is probably the easiest trail that we've been on, but still provides beautiful views of the river, the rock, and trees. If you're looking for something more strenuous, there are tons to choose from. Some of the extremely strenuous trails are petty short, so if you decide it's not for you, it won't be much longer until you are done. We don't mountain bike, but there are always a ton of people biking throughout the park. There are even trails specifically for bikes. There are also a ton of places to picnic, lay in a hammock, or just relax for a bit. I would recommend taking a drive through the whole park to check out the different areas because there are so many different landscapes. Two really fun locations are Lovers Leap and Jacobs Ladder. Lovers Leap is am overlook that allows you to see a ton of Waco and the Brazos. Jacobs Ladder is a set of really funky stone stairs. If you want q workout, climb those! read more

Did not realize that you could hike in Waco so close to Baylor! This park is amazing! We really enjoyed the trail system that runs all through the hillsides by the river. Not sure if it was the weather or not but the trails were not that crowded on a Saturday and there was plenty of nature to see. The city of Waco should be very proud of this park. The restrooms were very clean and we saw very little trash on the trails. I would definitely recommend this place to any interested hikers out there. read more

I visited here awhile ago. This park is an absolute gem. When deciding where I was going to go to college, I strongly opposed Baylor, my parents' alma mater, simply because I hated Waco. Maybe I would have thought twice had I known how beautiful this park is.. I didn't see too much of the park, but the water, greenery, trees and fantastic hiking were enough to sell me. I'm a sucker for good hiking and before coming here myself, if you had blindfolded me, placed me in the middle of this gorgeous place and told me I was in Waco, I would probably have slapped your mouth and called you a liar. Nature trails galore, scenic views, and inner solitude. Next to the national parks and wildlife in Austin, TX Cameron Park in Waco, TX has got the be one of the best in Central Texas. The natural beauty of the park and forestry next to the Brazos River is one the best views in Texas. Around mid-Spring is when the flora and fauna is at it's peak beauty. There are well over 20+ nature trails and routes (jogging, hiking, biking, & horseback riding) with different scales of difficulty and over 10+ points of interests to view. This is an outdoor fitness nut's paradise, literally. Elevation level can differ as much as 400+ feet; seriously, you have to see it to believe it yourself. Overall, I can only talk so much good about a place before you have to see it for yourself. Check this place out when you can because it's FREE and you can never beat that price. Side note: I recommend first-time visitors to dress appropriately to the weather and wear some nice, supportive running shoes. Check out "Lover's Leap" as it has the best view. "Mouth of the Bosque" is the best place to start your hiking. read more

My wife and I were visiting Waco for Baylor homecoming when she decided to surprise me with a morning of hiking. I had only driven by Waco on the way up to Dallas, so I wasn't expecting much. I was surprised and elated by the Brazos River and the expansive trail system offered by Cameron Park. The park includes plenty of pavilions for picnicking, playground areas for kids, ramps for boats/kayaks to enter the Brazos, and miles of trails accommodating runner/hikers, mountain bikers (with rated trails), and horseback riders. The park has signage posted frequently around the park that provides helpful maps of the park and trails and also gives short explanations of the history of the area and the significance of the trails. I'm a bit of a history buff, so I really enjoyed reading and learning more about the park and the development of the area. We started the day climbing Jacob's Ladder, a short flight of stairs going from the river up to the club house on the upper ridge. I confidently surged up the stairs full pace trying to set a new record, only to stop 75% of the way up with burning quads and glutes. I walked the rest of the way and enjoyed the little side trip. The rest of the morning we hiked the trail along the river and relished the lovely fall weather, the peaceful beauty of the river, and the chatter of friendly squirrels along the way. read more

Cameron Park offers a welcome reprieve from the constant sounds of traffic that emanate from I-35 and Valley Mills, which are Waco's lifelines and organizing principle. But not five minutes from downtown is over 400 acres and over fifteen miles of trails that run along the Brazos and Bosque rivers. It includes disc golf, picnic areas, ample woods, and even 100 foot limestone bluffs, which offer remarkable elevation for this area. The trails are plentiful, so much so that it's slightly overwrought and can be considerably confusing without a map, but they offer nearly endless variation for the hikers, runners, mountain-bikers, and equestrians who spend their free time in the park. I'm a HUGE fan of this park, its moderately safe. There are quite a few hiking trails, some for beginners, some for advanced hikers. There are yellows (I believe, for easier trails), blues (moderate trails), black (advanced trails), double black (very advanced trails.). There have been a few attacks in the park, one very bad one about 5 years back was done to a woman by her Ex boyfriend, and recently a few have happened by the same man, and they (the police) believe to have caught him. Its a great park, it is patrolled by park rangers (?), its is a great place to get away from your busy life and get out for a work out and just breath in a little fresh air. Its got horse trails, bike trails, kayak and boat entrances at certain docks of the park, you're welcome to fish off the bank of the river at the park as well. Its great for picnicking which seems to be the go about on the weekends at Cameron park, there is Frisbee golf, along with childrens play ground areas, and pets are welcome in the park as long as they are cleaned up after in necessary areas. Get out, enjoy the sun - but please have some common sense and don't go alone into the woods on the hiking trails and get hurt or worse. Esp at night ladies. My safety concerns of the park are the only reasons I'm not giving 5 stars. read more

I make a point to drive through/stop at the park whenever I go to the Zoo. The play areas are well kept, and it is nice to walk the rolling hills. My favorite part if going up and down "Jacob's Ladder" with my kids. It is also nice that the park is free (not part of the State Park program or any other fee based entry). Probably my only complaint is the bathrooms. They look OK from the outside, but they are pretty nasty even by park standards. read more
