We came here for just one night as we are on our way to Memphis. It's a bit off the highway to get back into here, but the roads were safe enough. They were super friendly at check-in and even offered chocolate chip cookies, which is a first. They also had popcorn. There is also Fatso's pizza place that is part of the front office and they give you a menu upon check-in. We were assigned to site two, which had a beautiful Lake view and was on the end so we had fairly unobstructed views of the lake. There's plenty of green space in this park and they had Disc golf as well as a pretty nice playground for the kids. The sites are fairly close together and there are 60 total sites in the campground, so seem like they had plenty of room. There are a lot of different site types that you can reserve, including one that is completely paved with some patio furniture. They also have cabins to rent if you don't have a camper. Loved all the shade trees too. We did not use the public showers or restroom so I cannot comment on that. With a good Sam discount, this place was $53 per night. Make sure to try the pizza, we ordered a small one just for a snack and it was fantastic! Make sure to ask them to make the cross extra crispy if you like it that way. All the utilities worked fine although I will say, even with our filter, the water had a little bit of an odor to it. Not sure what that was all about. There are plenty of restaurants and shops within about a mile of this place as well. read more

This is a great place for RVers. A quiet, wooded setting on a beautiful lake. We only spent one night here on our way to Michigan, but I would definitely stay here again. The staff was friendly, the site was level, and the setting was beautiful and serene. The camp even has a bar (lounge) where you can get beer, mixed drinks and pizza. They offer free cookies and free popcorn in the office. this was a great experience! They also have a central area where you can grill and a great kids area. read more

We really enjoyed our time at Camp Lakewood. We stayed in our RV and it felt more like we were staying at a friend's lake house. We we're in the middle of a 20 day RV trip and only stayed for one night as we passed through, but wish we could have stayed longer. The campground had a great park for our three kids to run around. The camp store was really cute and the bathrooms and laundry rooms were very clean and decorated nicely. We'll definitely be coming back. read more

Arrived on cold rainy nite. Sat down to dinner and power went out. Forced to pack up trailer and move to a new site. Promised a 25% discount for inconvenience. We never received refund. When I contacted manager was told that they would not offer discount. Electric problem was an act of nature, despite campsite 20 ft away having power. Also stated problem was resolved in 5 minutes, who can pack up a trailer, disconnect from sewer, water and electricity, hook up to truck ,move and set up again in 5 minutes? Very poor customer relations-we are talking about a lousy $12 and a broken promise! This is the second year in a row we have run into issues with utilities not working. Time to find a new site! read more

What a nice park! We were on our way to Niagara Falls on the I70 was east. Wife hadn't been feeling well so I punched in "RV Parks" on the gps and this one was closer. It's 5 minutes of I70, and easy to get to, but back in the woods! From our nice greeting in the office, to our site, great little gem. Now the sites are gravel, BUT they are in the process of adding concrete sites! But we are very happy with the site we got. #63 is a pull thru, east to access with our 36" Class A, and pulling a Jeep. Since it's only a over night stop, didn't have to unhitch the Jeep. That was nice! Site is almost perfectly flat, hook ups are nice and well kept. There is two sewer drops depending on your coach set up. Now a negative, no pool but they have a fishing lake. Small boats, no swimming. And that's why no 5 star. We travel almost full time, so we are always in and out of parks, there are a LOT we won't ever go back to! What an enjoyable stop. The cheerful "hello and welcome" when we arrived plus warm chocolate chip cookies was so welcoming. We were just stopping for an overnight so we got a cement slab pull through which was perfect. The property was so beautiful and it had great places to walk the dogs. We would highly recommend Camp Lakewood. Although we didn't know what to expect when we were driving in. The signs were extremely helpful. And we were greeted by a thunderstorm just as we were pulling in. Great place read more

What a poor excuse for an RV Park. We stayed here on our way through Illinois and it was a mistake. Tried calling all afternoon to check availability and got a busy signal. When we arrived the chick at the reservation desk says "oh, yeah. I took the phone off the hook because I was doing my homework." ??!! Then, hubby goes to check out the "lounge " thinking he might catch a football game that night. The woman in the lounge had both TVs turned to soap operas and paid him no mind. When he asked if they would consider showing football, she says "I don't like football" and goes back to watching her soaps, totally ignoring him. The equipment is old and not kept up. There is a nice bench down by the lake but it sits in a patch of knee-high weeds. This place is a joke and I wonder if the owners know just how little respect the staff have for customers. read more

This campground has everything you'd want. Wi-Fi, full hook-ups, cable TV, and more. It's clean, neat, and well-cared for. It is almost fully treed-in and has a beautiful high canopy of hardwoods that provide shade throughout. There is zero mud! Clean gravel walkways and driveways, as well as some grassy areas provide a nice tidy feel to the place. The bathrooms are always sparkling clean. There are many shady lake-view lots. Nearby is a Wal-Mart Super Center and many other places to shop and eat. Despite their convenient location close to the interstate, the songs of birds are louder than any faint traffic sounds you might hear. We'll be staying here again! We felt VERY unsafe! Upon arrival, a child had just been snake bitten. We offered to pay an EXTRA $150/month for a treeless lot. Instead our site was next to a trailer park and under several large trees that dropped damaging limbs and black slime on our roof. We had 2 items stolen and 1 item vandalized at our site. We caught another camper peeping into our window! Our cable was poor quality, no satellite signal and the park internet was slow. We had to park our 2nd truck far away (and out of our view). The site beside us put their property on our site (without our permission), and we weren't allowed to disturb it. We made numerous complaints about trash and noise, but the noise only got louder & LATER (after midnight)! In the laundry room we found metal, wood, and trash inside the washing machine tubs - we opted use a local laundromat. When a guest complained about the park store's prices, I actually heard the host tell that guest to go to Walmart! There is an onsite bar with video gambling that is also open to public. The owner told me that they would not close the bar at the posted closing time if there was an event, such as a football game, until it was over. I never saw any security personnel, and the bar is just a few feet from the building where the campground showers and restrooms are... I was threatened by the owners in a very frightening manner (for posting online reviews) - I even spoke to the Effingham Police about it! One of the owner's employees posted a counter review on another site to try to cancel my review and keep the campground's rating high. We still had 11 days paid for when we left the campground - at least they waived the accrued electricity charges. But we had to spend $77 to clean the roof of our RV once we left the campground. read more

Going back home to Texas and located this Good Sam park. Park was easy to get in and out of, gravel pads, picnic tables and small fire rings on each site. Store doesn't have a lot in it but we were stocked anyway. Small bar with bar food ie pizzas, pretzels, nachos. But the drinks were good and the bartender was a peach The campground is on a lake which looked nice but unfortunately it rained the entire time we were there. No cable or tv reception was the only negative I can speak of. Easy to hookup 50amp and though we didn't use it the dump station it appeared to have easy access. Another plus was a smallish gazebo with two grills. Overall I would go back. The owners and other staff were nice and friendly read more

Stayed here in 2013 and was looking forward to another stay. Sad to see this once great place is going down hill. The 1st space they gave us had a broken deck and since the spot is designed to use the deck as the way to get into the camper, we had to move. The 2nd one was so small (it was suppose to be a pull-thru).....The next morning, pulling out a 40 ft rig was a challenge. WIFI wasn't working. People are still great, place is quiet and the price is low. read more

Chose this place since it was a Good Sam campground. Called ahead and had a fairly hard time connecting with the office. Took a few times. Arrived sometime around 4 pm. We were given a choice of two sites and chose one. Followed the directions to the right and pulled into a nice site. We had two dogs with us and there were plenty of wooded areas to walk them through. Did not see a posted dog walk site either around the area or on the map. The cable was not working according to the office. No one came around to collect the fees that night or before we pulled out in the morning. I walked up to the office and handed the attendee the money and asked for a receipt. No where, in any of the process, did we feel like our name was written down. The campground is in a quiet, wooded area with great views of the lake. There is a path down to a bench along the edge of the water. Everyone we came in contact with was friendly. The store/office was clean. It is located a couple of miles off of 57, but a pretty straight shot to it without many turns. Come here again...sure, it was convenient and we were happy with it. read more

This is a very nice campground to stay at while traveling through central Illinois. It is conveniently located far enough off the freeway that noise is not an issue. There is shopping and several really good restaurants and coffee shops located nearby. They just recently added a lounge to the property as well. We have a 44 foot coach pulling a 20 foot car trail or and parking is not an issue. Try to call early as the place generally fills up during snowbird travel season. read more

First time here and we stayed here site unseen. Staff was super nice on the phone. Very accommodating. Had our own full hookups so no need to use showers. However, stopped in there to wash up before leaving. OMG, I've never seen a shower house so clean. Spotless, plenty of places to hang your stuff. It was even decorated and had music playing. This place is so nice! Cleanest bathrooms I've seen at a camp ground. We found this place while traveling through to Missouri from New Jersey. We arrived around 6.30pm on a Tuesday and the check in was simple...take an envelope put 36 bucks in and go to your camp site. We didn't use full hook up since it was a quick overnight stay but the cable was nice to have. Would definitely stay here again. read more

If this place had a pool we might have never left. Kaila greeted us with a big smile and shared all kinds of local information with us. Her and her husband Josh, keep the campground running smoothly and very clean. It is just a short distance off of I-57/I-70 so access is easy with signs directing you in, but far enough that there is very little road noise. The campground is right on the bend of Lake Pauline and some of the sites overlook the lake. The sites are laid out in a variety of ways to give you the best views and the most space. There are a number of seasonal campers but all are well kept. They also have cabins to rent. We had the best site in the park, #65 is a pull through that was plenty long enough for our 37-foot RV, tow dolly and parking the car. It is extremely wide, we laid our 15-foot patio rug straight out from our door and there was still room before our neighbor. Lots of trees which provided great shade, cut high enough that you can drive around them. If you use satellite TV this would not be a good spot for you, we don't and love the shade. The sites are all gravel, we had an extra long 10 person picnic table and a fire pit. WiFi was great and Verizon signal strong. Plenty of places to walk the dog and enjoy the lake views, there is a playground for the kids. They also have a lounge on site, that serves beer and mixed drinks and offers video gaming. Kelly O gave us great service. We stayed the 4th week of August and paid the weekly rate of $182.00/ $26.00 a night. We will go back to this place when passing through. read more

This is a GORGEOUS RV park !!! It is easy to find , and although it is just minutes off the freeway, it is peaceful and quiet. Bob and Abby are friendly, gracious, and helpful. Bob personally escorts you to to your site,helps you park, and always has a smile on his face. This is a full service campground: LP on site, a small store with basic food items, and RV parts/supplies. If they don't have what you need, it is less than a mile to the nearest Walmart. They also have the cleanest restrooms and showers you could ask for excellent wi-fi ,and cable TV hook ups. There are lots of beautiful trees, and free fishing. (no license required) If you are in the Effingham area and need an RV park, I HIGHLY recommend Camp Lakewood. They also have adorable cabins if you don't have an RV or trailer.We have paid a lot more for a lot less in other RV parks. read more

My husband & I stayed here for 4 days on our maiden rv voyage....so glad we picked this camp. The staff, Kayla & Josh could not have been more helpful. All the grounds are very well kept. Just stayed for three days and had an enjoyable time. Sites can be crowded if the park is full but was easily maneuvered in our 40' fifth wheel camper. Cable, WIFI and all worked very well. Very clean laundry room with an ironing board and even distilled water for the iron. Had tornado warnings and the owner Mike ran from camper to camper to let us know, much appreciated! Fall colors around the lake are very nice right now! Would definitely stay here again. Shopping is very close and has just about anything you may need. read more
