Happy Fall Y'all! We had an incredible time celebrating our their cousin's birthday camp lingua! It was the perfect start to the fall season. Activities like petting farms pals and horseback riding kept us engaged and entertained. Our favorite was the rope swing. They have a huge outdoor setup with a stage and plenty of seating at picnic tables. I will say watch out for the flies. Make sure you bring plenty of food covers. They provide these little mechanical devices that rotate to shoot them away as well. Overall, everyone had a great time! h? Camp lingua has a summer camp program that emerges your child in the Spanish language. We have not experienced that portion of their program but lucky for us they also offer birthday party packages along with other things. read more

I had very high hopes for this place after many recommendations. Had my son there for both, summer camp and after care school. Summer camp is doable, they are constantly outside and kid always comes home covered in dirt (good for them) but, big no no for after school. Your kids will end up for a really long time in their buss sometimes up to an hour is something happens with previous pick up. No help with any school work, it is run by teenagers. Trying to make the kids go to sleep at aftercare ?? These are not toddlers and this is not a day care. Nor was this mentioned to us parents. My daughter was super excited to start summer camp here after the open house but was super underwhelmed just after her first day. To start it is super unorganized She felt that she didn't fit in because she was placed with kids older than her and the counselors were barely attentive to the kids, she attended for over a week and didn't get to do all that the camp has to offer because they were busy doing dance routines. My kids went here for spring break camp. It was advertised as a horse-centric camp, with dirtbike riding and more. They never did more with a horse than feed it a snack, on one day only. They never rode dirtbikes. They swam in a pond, did art, typical activities you could do at a camp that's half the price. Don't waste your money here. The camp looks good at first glance but it's poorly run. Very few parent communications despite promises of photos daily. Security procedures at pickup consist of the parent wandering the camp searching for their kids 2 out of 5 days. Oh and the paid lunch? Pizza every day. read more

My girls have gone to Camp here for a couple years now and they love it. It's very unique how they allow the kids to choose which activity to do opposed to being told what you have to do. This was so much not worth the price!! This was our first and last time having our child go to this Camp. Our child was bored. We paid extra for the horseback riding lessons and it amounted to a measle hour for the entire week. To put this into context, a month cost about 70% of what we normally pay in a decent camp elsewhere. Yes, the kids are outdoors but that's not all that great in the sweltering summer heat. Then there was communicating with the Camp, a nightmare. Promises made and unkept add to our not so pleasant experience with this Camp. So, for us this was it. Before this Camp we were considering aftercare during the upcoming school year but, again, the price is just not worth the perceived value for us. read more

Camp Lingua is amazing! Simply put! My daughter is 4 and absolutely loves this camp. There is a wide variety of indoor and outdoor activities. The counselors, staff, and owners are very helpful, informative, and friendly. There is a field trip once a session (sessions are two weeks long) and also one horseback riding class included. I couldn't be happier with my daughters experience. She leaves every day exhausted and very happy; she tells me all about her daily activities and new friends. read more

The camp was good and organized my child enjoy the activities I only wish there was more of a focus on Spanish but would recommend it

I will start by saying that what Camp Lingua is doing is great. They are helping kids nurture their languages through fun activities and in room practice. However, as a first time Parent I was very disappointed by the lack of communication between Parents and Coordinators. I had two students there, ages 3 and 5. This is NOT a camp for young children as their activities are definitely geared to older students. I had several problems with emails and phone calls not being returned in a timely manner or at all as with my last email in which I requested a refund. I paid for lunches and field trips at registration (prior to starting the session) and my children did not participate. The first two sessions my children had to go to a different location Camp Genius, my 3 year old was not allowed to attend field trips per their policy so I lost my money there. Then, we attended Session 4, in which my children had no alternative but to do the Everglades Tour which I refused due to concerns over what had happened at Disney (a child being dragged and died), and again no alternative option was given, so I lost my money there as well. I hate to say that all they care is about their money, but to me it seemed that way. Once you are signed up pretty much there is no going back. Tadpoles which is the app what they used for keeping parents up to date with what's going on was often wrong. I would get the same material and activities for my children even though I knew they were not doing that. My children were in two different classrooms. Information for what was going to happen the next day was wrong. Example, I received a Tadpole Report stating my children were going to CB Smith Park the next day and on that day I received a picture of my child at Flamingo Gardens. I had NO idea where my children were and that is not a feeling any Parent should have. Instagram and Facebook are their sources of "Communication" but their schedule was sometimes late. For Session 4, we received the Schedule on Tuesday night after 11pm, 2-3 days into the Session. Just a lot of problems with their Coordinators keeping Parents aware. We did meet some good Coaches but I did notice that the first Session in which my children were at Camp Genius they learned more Spanish and were speaking it more than when they started at the Camp Lingua location. The Coaches speak a lot of English when dealing with kids during outdoor activities so maybe this was a factor. Camp Lingua does a lot of outdoor activities. Camp Genius was more in classroom lessons. Hope this helps someone out there in making their decision. read more

Went to pick up my kids and they were crying. Apparently there were kids that weren't playing nice. Teachers did nothing about it. Bullies were scratching my kids and kicking them while playing a ball game, and teachers did nothing. While telling the owner, first said "the word bully is a strong word", even though my daughter was describing a bully down to the T. Hearing my daughter saying how the counselors were laughing and doing nothing when my kids and other kids told them what was happening, when the other kids were bullying them after they repeatedly said stop, the owner kept saying I'm sure they didn't, no they didn't do that, completely minimize what my daughter was saying. Worst experience ever! I paid for school's out day which said they would do fishing, archery, do crafts, and my kids did non of that. The only thing my son got to do was soccer and basketball. The groups get to "vote" on what the do for the day? My sons group didn't "vote", and That is not what i was sold? My daughters group at least went to see the animals! read more

My daughter did the - full 8 weeks of camp at Lingua this summer . She could not be happier in the morning to be dropped off and would beg to stay longer when I would pick her up . This is the first year my kids have attended Camp Linqua. The kids have enjoyed it as they have a very good balance of study and play. They incorporate the respective language into the activities they do throughout the day. They also take a very creative approach to teaching as my daughter mentioned an activity where they did a scavenger hunt in Spanish at the grocery store. They only got it right when they correctly wrote the Spanish word for the item. The kids also have a lot of fun activities planned in addition to studies. They have field trips once a week and enjoy other activities onsite. It is also worth mentioning that this is a large camp but surprisingly, I have not encountered one staff member who did not seem genuinely interested in being there. They also have a system for managing the safety of the kids which is good considering the size of the camp. Spanish is the largest group so they have more options for separating the kids based on age. The other languages do not but it seems like the smaller groups can learn a lot. We are considering putting our kids there next summer but I was not sure how they would teach the kids who are repeats for say, Spanish. I learned that they change their circulum every year so the material is not stale for any returning kids. read more

This is based on the Summer camp at the SWR location. Very disappointing and VERY unorganized! So many things to complain about, but I'll keep it to the point with 2 main things that stood out. 1. My child had to eat lunch on the pavement floor under a tree everyday, because there were not enough tables available. 2. The children went on a field trip to CB Smith park on 2 buses and returned on 1 bus. So there were 4 children to a seat. Very unsafe! For the price of this camp I expected better. I was really looking forward to enrolling my daughter in one or two language classes a week, and even consider the after-school camp as a future option. However, what happened even before signing up made me feel that they are not interested in my business. I received their email inviting for demo sessions, and I clicked to sign up my daughter for a Monday session. Upon signing up, I received the confirmation email with conflicting information: There were two dates (Monday and Thursday) on the message. So we show up on Monday at the time indicated. When we get there, they tell us the demo sessions were never scheduled for Monday or Thursday, but for Wednesday... We come back on Wednesday under a strong thunderstorm - weather alert and all. Could not leave the car. Mind you this is a farm-like setting, where you have to walk 50/70 yards from the parking area to the front door, with no covering, so we would have gotten soaking wet in addition to the risk of being hit by ligthning. So we wait in the car for some 20 minutes - there were at least two other cars in the same situation. When the storm calms down a bit, we try to leave the car, but their front gate area was flooded. We get back in the car to drive home and I call them to explain the situation and reschedule. Their answer? That the demos were today, that was that, no demo session for prospective students. About the unexpected thunderstorm and flooded entrance? Said I should have worn rain boots. I'm serious. read more

This school is amazing! Living here in the equine community of SW Ranches and having an adult language school on a ranch is like a dream come true! I am studying Portuguese at the school in the evenings. I had no idea when I signed up that it would literally be in my back yard amongst horses and hay! I attended classes on the weekend. I paid in full at the beginning of the year. I don't recommend you do this. Let your child attend the sessions in segments.My child did not progress much in her weekly session so I didn't get my money's worth. After I complained that she didn't seem to be getting much from the Spanish lessons, I was told that students should attend more than once a week. I also expected to receive printed materials each week and dedicated teaching staff. Often times 'teachers' would show up unprepared to continue previous lessons. Students weren't given handouts so they could prepare for absences. We also didn't have good contact info on weekends (the building was controlled access, teacher not coming, early pick up). read more

Everyone in the staff is nice and helpful. The facility is big and beautiful. My child came home dirty, tired, happy and hungry which is what I expect from a summer camp. :) My child did miss at least one session of his language class. They were playing outside and when it was time for class, he somehow stayed out playing. I would have liked that an adult in charge firmly directed my child to class instead of hoping he would listen and willingly stopped playing and go to class by himself. There are many sports/activities camps, but to me Language learning is the main point of choosing Camp Lingua. read more

My 2 kids have been going to Camp Lingua for the past 3 years and they have really enjoyed it!.... The counselors are excellent every year and make sure the kids are having fun, safely and improving their Spanish Definitely not the cheapest camp around, but I know you get what you pay for. Overall it was a good camp with a variety of outdoors activities- horseback riding, Gaga ball, archery, tree climbing, fishing ... to name a few. My kids complained of having to outdoors to eat and for them it was very hot and unbearable. They also complained of the flies which was everywhere- I guess to be expected for being at a ranch. I wish they had larger indoor facilities for the amount of campers they have. read more

My child attended last summer, and I avoided posting anything at the time because I was just too angry. Well, I got another email today asking me to review them on Yelp. So, here it goes. What a waste of money this was. I enrolled my child in Spanish to help her learn the "local" language here in South Florida. At the end of week one she no longer wanted to go because the instructors and the other children would not speak to her at all in English. My child was only 5 at the time - at least give some guidance! This camp did completely the opposite that we had hoped. We wanted to be able to expand her knowledge and get excited about learning a new language and now there is no desire at all to embrace any new language. I also agree with the other posts about lack of communication. If your child already speaks Spanish, then this may be for you. But if not, then all this does is make a child and a mother feel even more isolated and discriminated against. read more

This is my 11 year old daughter's second year attending the camp. This year they added a new feature of the parents being able to see videos and pictures of what the children are doing during the day. I saw a video today of my daughter reading a book aloud in Spanish during class. I absolutely love checking the application each day to see what they are doing. It alerts you when they arrive back from field trips even. Every camp should have this feature. My friends who are Spanish speaking are very impressed with my daughter's ability to communicate in Spanish and often times share my daughter's Spanish is more fluent than their children's. The staff interacts with the children and makes learning a language fun. The staff are all adults and you can see really care about the children. My daughter also participates in the after school program during the school year. We also are very happy with that program. I'm very comfortable with the supervision of the children on field trips and outside activities which always is extremely important. I would highly recommend this camp to children of all ages. We sent our child to Camp Lingua for the Mandarin summer camp and it was so bad we withdrew her after the first 2 weeks (that was the minimum you had to pay for). We really wanted this camp to work as we had been looking for a Mandarin camp for a while. 1. First of all, the camp is more expensive because of the language aspect. Since my child already had a year of Mandarin and knew the basics, they promised that they would keep that in mind and help her build on what she had already learned since there were only 3 kids in the Mandarin camp, they could work with each one individually. They didn't do that. Instead, they stuck to the curriculum which was days of the week, numbers from 1-10 (even though my daughter already knew the numbers from 1-100) and so there was nothing to justify the extra money we were paying. There were plenty of other great camps with activities like sports, crafts, etc, we could have sent to her instead. 2. I wanted to visit the camp during the day to see the activities they were doing during the day but the person in charge raised as many objections as possible before finally agreeing to let me visit at 11 am one morning but only after I insisted that I wanted to see what we were paying for. When I got there, I saw the kids just doing crafts the entire time, which she could have easily done at home or in some other cheaper camp. To add to my annoyance, after 30 mins they told me I had to leave because I was only allowed to stay there for 30 mins. They didn't tell me this when I got there or before that or I probably wouldn't have taken time off from work to go and sit there just for 30 mins. 3. The Mandarin kids didn't even have a proper place to sit. They were crammed into the administrator's office along with the kids from the Portuguese camp. All we could hear in the room was Brazilian Portuguese (which looked a little more exciting than what the Mandarin kids were doing). 4. The room, apart from being small was full of mosquitos. I was eaten alive in just the 30 mins I was there. My daughter came home with mosquito bites all over her legs and arms. 5. The people running the camp seemed to have no interest at all in any feedback regarding the camp. They just didn't seem to care. They grudgingly let me sit there for 30 mins and then asked me to leave without asking me what I thought of the camp. When I did not sign her up for the 3rd week, they didn't seem to care enough to ask why we weren't coming back. 6. Quite a few times my daughter came home telling me that she got 'lost' during the activities and ended up with the Spanish camp (my daughter already speaks Spanish so there was no reason for her to be there) when we were paying the extra money for Mandarin. The Mandarin Camp had 2 (sometimes 3) kids!! How could she end up in the Spanish camp more than once?? 7. I also found out that they barely did any Mandarin during the day. Most of the exciting Chinese activities we were told they were going to do when we signed her up seemed to have just been made up. They did very little Mandarin. She brought home some dumplings they had made in class that smelled so bad we had to throw them out immediately. She didn't even know how to say 'dumpling' in Chinese. She told us that the main Mandarin counselor often left before lunch and never came back, leaving them with a substitute who basically didn't do much with them. My daughter kept talking about movies that she watched so I'm guessing they spent part of the time watching TV (which I sent her to camp to avoid). She even spent enough time with the Portuguese camp to actually perform with them in the small show at the end of the two weeks program. Basically, I would not recommend this camp to anyone at least for Mandarin. I cannot speak for the other languages. At least the Spanish camp had their own room. I look at those 2 weeks as a complete waste of my daughter's time and our money. We put her in the summer camp that was run by her elementary school and it was much better and cheaper. They learned a lot more (even though not language related) and did a lot more activities. I could I would have given it zero stars but 1 is the minimum. I hope this review was helpful. read more
