Walking around the circular town center is a very memorable experience. We had lunch at the Auberge which is clearly a popular spot for locals. Every aspect of the experience was outstanding, particularly my charcuterie and duck confit. It was also a tremendous value for such delicious food. If you're anywhere in the Gers I highly recommend making a trip here and to Fourcès.

The hotel is part of the Relais and Chateau network and so must live up to very high standards. Which they definitely do. There are bikes that are available for you to use. We rode around Lac D'uby and up to the Domaine D'uby winery and distillery. Town is very sleepy and the store we wanted to visited was always closed. But who needs town when you have this amazing place to luxuriate in and with a Michelin restaurant on site.

Nicely renovated 1970's style with today's warmth, the owners are paying attention to detail and to their guests wellbeing. Certainly an alternative to Le Bastard if you are planning to use Lectoure as a base for exploring the Gers and Lomagne regions.

However, the two toddlers needed food, and so we decided to eat at the only place open in the square, L'étape d'Angéline. All the tables under the arcades were occupied, so part of our group of 12 had to sit out in the sun. Too bad they did not have an umbrella for our table. The midday sun was a little much. By the time people in our table were ready to have lunch, it was almost two and the kitchen was closing soon. The servers told us we can order from their salad menu. There were several salads to choose from and each looked hearty enough for lunch. They are Salade Composées, so they are meant to be a complete meal. And they were that--a meal in itself. I had the Salade Gasconne which had two very generous slices of foie gras (SW France is known for their foie gras), nicely crisp and browned small baked potatoes, sliced duck breast and gizzard and tomatoes. Delicious and for less than 15€ with VAT and Service Charge included (all prices everywhere in France including restaurants include tax and service charge), it was a steal. Foie gras in this region is so inexpensive and is artisanal, so we were really lucky. Someone in our group had the salad with warmed chèvre on toasts, another with the confit de canard (another specialty in this area), another with melon, cheese and ham. We ordered another carafe of Rosé and everyone happily ate their salads. To end our meal, we ordered cheese. They had given each of us a small plate with thinly sliced Comte with a teaspoon of honey and nuts. So simple but so good! Service turned out to be good even though they didn't seem happy at first to be having another big group sit down close to closing time. I would definitely come back for the salads again. Perfect summer meal!

The new owner, Willem, was an amazing host and obviously has a passion for hotels which you can see in all the details, such as the immaculate and gorgeously renovated new bathrooms in the rooms, to the Nespresso machine, and selection of Parisian teas in every room. The bed sheets were the most decadent I have every laid in. The rooms are very French and charming, but super clean and the bathroom makes the old world, very modern. I loved the swimming pool and the surrounding lounge chairs. Spent many hours relaxing by the pool. The attached restaurant has am excellent young chef in charge. I highly recommend the charcuterie/fromage platter as well as the fish n chips which is an homage to the many British tourists that pass through. I highly recommend this hotel and hope to return as soon as I can!
