Where it all began... Here...my expressive non-dislike for the taste of coffee began here. Years ago, as a naive coffee hating American from the south raised on buckets of Foldger's, I had no idea that coffee could be so delectably savoury, flavorful, and variant. Campo's exposed me to an entirely new culture and is still the only cafe in Melbourne that I go out of my way to visit (or that can possibly entice me to leave work early from an "upset stomach" that one time but never again because I am very responsible). I'm not sure about any other Campo's, but definitely check out the one in Carlton. Though there is no wifi and it's not pram friendly, the coffee is amazing (with multiple varieties, blends, and daily specials to choose from), the staff is knowledgable and friendly, and the food is consistently scrumptious. read more

I can smell the coffee miles away and it's so hard to resist following my nose straight into Campos, especially when I know the coffee here is every bit as good as they say it is. Now Campos isn't a café as such, it's more of a coffee bar. All emphasis is on the coffee here so don't expect a complex food menu, cause no cooking is done on site; the only thing that comes close is the beans being lovingly roasted in the back. There are pastries and other bites available though. The decor seems to reflect the colours and vibe of a freshly made brew. They have a Slayer espresso machine, which despite sounding cool, also says they mean business. And they offer cold-drip and syphon-filter coffees too. The choices here are enough to make your head spin just like when you've missed your morning coffee fix. But never fear the Campos crew are here to lend a helping hand through the coffee maze. So just give them a shout and they'll point you in the right direction. I can honestly say, at first, I thought Campos would turn out to be just like any other café; after all they're originally from Sydney. But that first sip not only proved me wrong, it made me so embarrassed for ever having doubted them. read more

Now this place made some seriously good coffee, almost to the point that I raised the respectability of Melbourne in my eyes when it comes to coffee (though I seem to be in the minority when it comes do drinking good coffee in that I don't think that it is as good as everybody makes it out to be). However this place certianly bucks the trend in my eyes. Sure, it is more than just a place to purchase coffee, but the one and only reason that I would come to this place now is to basically have another cup of coffee. Okay, I'd probably have something else as well to go with it, though the main reason I just had the coffee when I was here last was namely because I had already eaten. I really like coffee. And I really appreciate good coffee made with care by passionate professionals. But for whatever reason, I don't really like Campos. The coffee is actually delicious, as you'd expect from a specialty roaster. Campos started out in Sydney, roasting beans from all over South America. The Carlton store offers single origin beans and has unique ways of brewing it - like through the 'Cold Drip'. But despite Campos' dedication to the highest quality brewing practices, I find the experience visiting the store quite cold. The dark, austere interior just isn't welcoming - I feel like I'm in a library and need to keep my voice down to a whisper. Sitting outside is definitely better, but this side of Elgin Street doesn't get morning sun so you need to rug up. If anything, the lack of effort Campos have put into creating an inviting atmosphere is indicative of how dedicated they are to coffee - everything comes second to their brewing. But there are other roasters around who manage to do both spectacular coffee and create warm spaces, so if they want to compete in Melbourne's market I think Campos needs a make over. read more

Campos is tucked away on a quiet bit of Carlton but gets a lot of business from people walking past. Inside it looks quite sparse, a little like a Sydney cafe. The team here is good at making coffee and pump them out nice and fast if your in a rush. You can also buy the coffee beans to take home and make your own. read more

This place is soooo nice and impressive to be at the airport. Tea pot $4.80 and cup $4. Why not get the full pot right? It's equivalent to 4 cups. They provide complementary cookies and biscuit on the table. Surprise it's not more busy. Great to kill time at the airport and try some tea. They have the classic earl grey and green senxha but we decided to be bold and try the lemon with ginger and licorice ! The licorice taste is slight aftertaste.. not bad at all. First coffee I've had in Melbourne that was extracted perfectly with single origin beans. The kind of coffee you don't put any sugar in because it will ruing your long black. Included in the good times are the meals for breakkie. I had a haloumi burger with an egg. Cooked perfectly with more than enough haloumi. They also have pastry's and really good avocado smash for hipsters. read more

From the moment you walk in this place is warm and inviting. On a beautiful Sunday morning, friends and I gathered at Campos to share a cuppa and some food. I ordered a cup of the endless batch brew that they have only on Sundays. My comrades all ordered flat whites. After a few moments the coffees arrived. Hot, aromatic, and simply one of the better coffees in Melbourne. For brekky I ordered the three bean cassoulet with duck sausage crumble. The cassoulet was filled to the bream with beans and topped with a nice crunchy crumble. The duck sausage was hidden inside somewhere although not obvious in the flavors. The beans were cooked perfect tender, not mushy. Great way to start the day. I look forward to a return to Campos, nix the duck sausage though. read more

I spent two weeks in Melbourne and this was the best coffee I found in Melbourne coupled with great service. I highly recommend the long black as it was excellent. The croissants are also very good. I didn't find a better cup of coffee here in Melbourne and I had the good fortune to try quite a few places. read more

Fantastic coffee. Their food is pretty good but not outstanding, and their service can be spotty, but overall a great place.
