Best coffee!! Specialty coffees that are so smooth!! And they are happy to accomadate for decaf or flavorings. Busy, high energy vibes, but the staff are so friendly, a welcoming and so helpful. Never try to rush you no matter how long the line.

Decent coffee with a standard price. I got a $5 AUD ($5 USD) for a coffee with milk. The place was quite small, but I loved the price! Loved that coffee in Melbourne was so cheap. Coffee here also tasted fresh. The shop is located in the busy Degraves Lane.

Great to see inner city coffee houses back and thriving. Dukes never fails to impress, great vibe, amazing tunes and service and most of all fantastic coffee made to perfection. A must visit if in Melbourne on a weekday.

The coffee is excellent. The blend is impressive and they are quite efficient even with a lot of customer. Maybe it was me but I found the menu really hard to understand. When I asked the person attending the 'specialties' he just told me to ask whatever I ask normally. Kinda sad, but still enjoyed it.

At first I was going to suggest that the sign of a good coffee shop, and in fact the sign of a shop that serves good coffee, is the line out the front. Well, it Dukes is anything to go by, then that certainly holds true, I have since discovered that this is not necessarily the case. However, where Dukes is concerned, they arguably serve the best coffee in Melboure, though there are some other places that also come pretty close. Mind you, the place does get pretty crowded, but there is a really, really good reason for that.

It's popular for a reason - their coffee is exceptional. Pretty much the perfect roast - a hint of caramel and absolutely no bitter or sour flavor to it. The staff are all very friendly. There isn't an excessive amount of seating but I was able to grab an open stool mid-afternoon on a Friday. It is bustling, so probably not a place to linger with a laptop.

Call it smart interior design and play on colours, but walking into Dukes from the fast pace of Melbourne's CBD is like walking into a kind of oasis of calm. Even with the space fast filling up with morning coffee hunters, there was no yelling or impatient energy. Just calm and patient putners waiting for their morning hit. I was lucky enough to stay within walking distance on my last visit to Melbourne, and found the coffee to be consistent, the staff respectful of the inability to be properly human until that first coffee of the day has been consumed and the space welcoming to stop, take a breath and collect your thoughts for the day. Pro Tip: try the lamington shortbreads. Amazing.

Ladies and gents, let me expound ever so briefly on a phenomenon I like to call "Nerdification of the Bean." Brew chasers know what I am talking about. It seems that the hip and cool thing to do these days is proclaim yourself a coffee brewing Urkel: to deck out a shop with high-end espresso machines, scales and glass beakers; to don lab coats and throw around fancy terms like "distillation"; and call oneself a scientist in the chase for the perfect brew. Some even tout their credentials in their name (e.g., Sensory Lab in the David Jones). Don't get me wrong. Surely, there's a time and place for this kind of endeavor, and I, for one, applaud and support the application of scientific rigor to the pursuit of coffee perfection. But sterility can displace warmth; and the mechanization of process has a tendency to sunder art from craft. The top of Mount Olympus can be a lonely place. Dukes is a happy medium between two extremes -- the exacting lab behind glass and steel, and the plodding street cafe that serves its coffee only one way (burnt). They've got the Mistral oddity from outer space and the weighing scale, but with offsetting wooden cabinet finishes and an inviting teal facade. Is the one coffee I had here (a soy cap, $4.50; customarily served with a double shot, but still pricey) the best I've ever had? No. It was adequate -- bordering on good, even. Smooth and mellow. But in some ways, that misses the point. On a blustery morning, I sought refuge from the cold. That I found what I was looking for inside Dukes says as much about the cafe environs as it does about the coffee Dukes serves. Open Saturdays too (Yelp's hours above are incorrect).

Hooray! Even more great coffee in the CBD! I love the painted floor tiles, the light wooden counters and the sweet window seats. With more than half the floor taken up by prep counters and coffee machines, the focus is more on stopping in for a quick standing or takeaway coffee, rather than sitting for multiple hours talking. That said, there's a few high chairs and one very cute booth made for two that suits those wanting to rest a little while they get their caffeine fix.

I love the seating at the end of the counter where the coffee alchemy takes place in furious fashion. Dukes is worth a visit for their precise pour overs or even a simple flat white using the Dukes espresso blend (my choice today), coupled with one of their delicious sweet things. The pistachio cupcake was to die for, topped with impossibly fluffy marscapone and a hidden gem of some sort of berry or cherry or very very cheery something.

Dukes on Flinders is the outpost of the Chapel Street flagship. The interior of the store is clean, minimalist, and aesthetically pleasing. Patterned tiles adorn the floor while a long line of mirrors on the wall make the space a visual delight. Relaxing funk music plays in the background, and there is a whole wall full of third wave coffee paraphernalia (v60, syphons, keepcups etc). There are about 15 spaces spaces available for seating, and a pastry case full of bread, sweets, and tarts. Come here if you're ever on Flinders. You won't regret it.

Love it. Hidden away and cute. Beautifully designed. Lovely timber bar stools and gorgeous floor! Excellent range of treats and of course amazing coffee and tea. Staff are delightful, helpful & knowledgeable. Selling all sorts of coffee paraphernalia. If you love Dukes in Chapel St, you'll love this one, too! x

Decent coffee, not too many varieties in terms of drinks. The staff were friendly and accommodating.

Freshly ground coffee, superb cappucino, great baked goods. I went with poppy seed cake with passion fruit icing. Wonderful.
