Alterations are not cheap, and as a petite person who always needs petite denim jeans hemmed, I wish that the K-12 system had not denied me the chance to learn sewing so I could DIY, or that I was actually in conformity with the Western conception of a 5 foot 4 inch petite female, but why dwell on what you can't change now ... I have had two pairs of pants altered here before, the main lady who works there did a nice job and they were on time. I believe I did price comparisons and at the time, which was two years ago, it was the most competitively priced. read more

I brought a pair of jeans for a hem job. I forgot the exact amount, but it was like $18 without original hem and ~$21 with the original. I choose to alter it with the original hem, and I like the result very much. It's in sort of obscure place, so it might be hard to find, but it's close to campus and reasonable price, so I'm not complaining. read more

I love this place! Campus Tailor is the only store in Madison where I have been able to find someone who does an "original hem" when shortening my pants. (If you buy pants from bop, dont get it shortened there! This place does a better job for a lower price.) Although i first started going to her for tailoring on my pants, I also started taking dresses, shirts, and suits to her as well. In fact, the tailor does such a good job with all my clothes that I've received numerous compliments from all my friends - they all think I've lost weight! Now they all go to her as well. read more

I've been going here for probably 3-4 years now. The prices are very reasonable, the work has always been quality, and the turnaround time is very good. It is a little bit of a pain to always have to pay in cash, but with the prices and the quality of the work, i'm willing to stop at an ATM. Parking is actually fine, I've never had a problem finding a street spot on Gilman, and the meters there accept credit cards. Never costs me more than $0.25 to park. All in all, highly recommended if you don't mind paying cash. read more

Brought in a couple of suit pants to get hemmed as well as a bathing suit (too plunging of a neckline). Although, trying to communicate across the language barrier was hard at first I got my point across what I wanted change with the swimsuit. I was told to come back in 4 days for everything and they were true to their word. Everything was ready on time and I was happy with the results. I have gone here a handful of times, to get pants or skirts hemmed and/or taken in at the waist. While she is fast and relatively inexpensive, I have had three separate occasions where her stitches completely came out. So now, I am looking for a new tailor. read more

I had two pairs of pants altered there -- one hem and the other, a hem and waist intake -- in November. She (or they?) does an excellent job. Alterations are never cheap, and I found her prices reasonable. (I brought my pants to her while visiting from New York, where alterations can be VERY costly.) I've tried several people in town and this is by far the best place. I'm just barely 5ft tall so I pretty much need very pair of pants hemmed. She has also done a great job with bridesmaid dresses and with the pants and jacket for my nicest suit. Very reasonably price and she can be flexible on time. She's rushed a job for me more than once w/o an extra fee (compared to the $30 up charge from another place in town). Only down side is the hours but it's worth that inconvenience. Also - If you're trying to drive to the store, there's an entrance on Gilman Street so just park there rather than trying to get in on the University side. read more

This is a tiny shop. The owner/tailor is a very sweet and kind woman with excellent skills. Her prices are reasonable and she makes every effort to meet your schedule. I recommend going to Campus Tailor. You have to park on the street and pay in cash: not much of a hardship when you weigh that against the pluses. Try her out. I think you will agree she is worth it. I brought a leather coat in last week to have the sleeves shortened. The work was done quite well and very quickly. Less than a week turnaround. The price was definitely reasonable, I was expecting to be asked for a whole lot more. I'll go back the next time I need something altered. read more

I came here to get a dress hemmed and was very pleased with the results. The seamstress did a great job of helping me decide what length to make the dress and was very friendly. I bought a really nice late fall coat that I had gotten at St. Vincent's, but the zipper broke within a week of the purchase. I brought it to Campus Tailor, and she fixed it for a reasonable price in less than 5 days. This was a very thick fabric and I'm sure it was hard to install the new zipper. She did it well and I'm now wearing my "good as new" coat just in time for the colder weather. read more

I brought in a pair of raw denim selvedge jeans to get hemmed with the original hem resewn on. The hem looks terrible on the inside - with loose stitching everywhere. I definitely won't be returning to Campus Tailor to have any of my clothes altered. read more

The old lady will scam you. You need to count your change or the same thing that happened to me will happen to you. I went in to pick up my clothes. I gave the money to the old lady and tried on my clothes. After I was done, she counted the money in front of me and gave it to me. Since I saw her count the money, I didn't bother to count it myself. I went to Madison Fresh Market afterwards and took out the change I just received to pay for my grocery. That's when I realized that it was 10 dollars short. She literally counted the change and gave it to me, expecting that I would not notice that. Honestly, she was quick and I have been satisfied with the quality. However, I am never going back to her place again. read more

Absolutely horrible. I'm rather thin and needed clothes taken in, but she took them in so much no one can possibly wear them. Charged me $100 to ruin $200 dollars worth of shirts. Don't come here to have clothes taken in! read more
