I have been taking my clothes here when Right Size Alterations is backed up. The work done is average. I have lost a considerable amount of weight and needed a large percentage of my wardrobe modified. The service and rudeness though causes the one star rating. A couple of times, the alterations were very subpar. She will blame you, the customer, for her errors. The last pair of pants I took in were to be brought in around the waist by a couple of inches. They were still way too big. She tersely told me that "This happens all the time" that I tell her where I need the waistline to be and then not be happy about it. So untrue and happened only two times and it was completely her poor work. I just walked out knowing I would never come back. Bad manners, so-so quality of work and her below average English is not a reason to patronize her. Take your money and clothes somewhere else. read more

Shortening of 2-layer dress for a wedding event was not done to my specifications. She should have measured much more carefully and followed the measurements. I would not return there for alterations. read more

I came here on a Tuesday night (at 7pm mind you, they close at 8pm) as the a$$hole that needed something tailored by the same Saturday. My needs were well received and they were very friendly as they catered to all my odd adjustments and trying the garment on and off so they could get the fit exactly right. Even though they were tearing at the seams with business, they offered to have it ready by Thursday! With taking in a lot lengths, a few alteration work, fixing straps, and seams, my grand total came to be about only $40. AND they have great hours! Open until 8pm during the week days! No one has hours as convenient as this. They are also open on Saturdays. Great prices, awesome location close to home for me (they are in the same strip mall as Maharaja Restaurant and located next to Ceicil's)! read more

I took my leather jacket in to get the sleeves shorted on a Saturday. May was very helpful and friendly. She said that the jacket would be ready on the following Wednesday. I was very excited to have some works done at Express Alterations when I read the positive reviews. Brought in two dresses to be altered. As previous reviews pointed out May is very helpful and polite. She showed you the fitting room, took measurements and understood what I wanted. I had my anniversary dress shortened and the capped sleeves removed to make it a tank dress. I also shortened the straps on two dresses. Because the shortening of the straps and the sleeves removal were on the same dress, they didn't charge extra for sleeves removal, which was great. The turnaround time was fast too, you could have it done in a day or two if you are pressed for time. As I wasn't, I just asked to pick my dresses up the following week, since I usually go to the area on weekends to run some errands. A week later I was back for my dresses. If I recall correctly their receipts do not come with a serial number, so they gave me someone else's dresses instead, but that wasn't the issue. The issues were that the straps shortening was unevenly done on one of the dresses, such that there was one end sticking out and making the dress look weird. For the other dress, the shortening was kind of strange, it somehow managed to make one side of the dress look shorter than the other. Even if it's a puffy dress you couldn't cover up that fact. The worse thing that when they removed the sleeves of the same dress, the material ended up being torn and frayed on the sides. I suppose you could fold the sides in and sew it up to make it look better, but they were left like that. Now I have to hand wash the dress and hope that the fraying doesn't worsen with time and wear. That dress cost me $80 to get, prior to alteration changes. I definitely wasn't prepared for something like that to happen. My search for a good tailor in Madison continues. read more

I love this place. May is great and very fast, she always suggests a finish date that is way before I planned on it being done. I recently got a bridesmaids dress altered there (taken in on both side, no zipper) for under $40 and paid $5 for a few discreet button on some very low cut dresses. The prices are good and she's open after 5, which is super nice. May is really friendly and I'm glad to have found her. read more

May is very detailed and helpful. A wonderful person to work with. May helped me fix my Bridal gown after another seamstress from Vera's ruined it. The best part is that she had a one week turnaround for some complex work! I am taking all of my alterations to May in the future! read more

Unfortunately I didn't get to experience their service because when I arrived at their shop on Saturday at 4:30 pm they were closed, although their Yelp listing and their phone message said they were open until 6:00 pm. My frustration, their loss. read more

I just had a lining replaced in an irreplaceable collectors leather jacket. I was in no hurry and there was a communication error on when it would be finished, but the end result was amazing. I would recommend them to anyone and I will take all my work there from now on. Outstanding job. read more

Five days is not"express". I needed six patches sewn onto my dogs service vest. Four dollars a patch was a reasonable price, but having to wait that many days was a pain, since people harass my service animal when we go out without our vest, which is legal by the way. read more

Amazing! That is the only way to describe this place. The owner works fast and is extremely friendly and on the off chance that you don't like it or it is not quite right she will bend over backwards to fix it. I have had a dress shortened/hemmed, a lined dress taken in all over, a skirt taken in at the waist and a zipper shortened in a dress. Her prices are great and she will get it done in a hurry for you with no up charge. She is so friendly I am happy I found such a great talior in Madison no one has come even close. They are tucked into that little strip mall right next to Joann Fabrics. LOVE THEM! read more

Had been there before previous work was excellent, I took several items when I returned home I found a big hole in the back of my dress immediately brought it back and they refused to take responsibility for it. Very disappointed, lying is unacceptable. If your going to have a business take responsibility for your actions I would have forgiven the mistake if an offer had even been made to repair it . How horrible. I came here to get my prom dress altered. I am 5ft and am wearing a long dress, so needed my dress hemmed. I tried it on for them, they were very nice and pinned it a few times. My dress had a beaded top that went to the waist, and then flowy fabric that went down the rest of the way. I wasn't worried that they only pinned it a few times because I thought they were going to measure from my waist(where the beaded part met the fabric) to insure that my dress was even all around. I was going to wear flats to the dance, so wore my shoes that I was going to wear on prom night. A few weeks later I went to pick up my dress and tried it on. WOW! It was very uneven. The 2 layers of satin were not lined up together and were hemmed unevenly! This is not all though. The dress(with the same shoes on-flats) was off the ground 2 inches in the front and back, and 5 inches on the sides! You could see my shoes. It looked horrible. I wasn't mad at this point but just disappointed. The woman working called the man in charge who proceeded to YELL at my mom and I. I'm not one to complain about a company, I wouldn't want to hurt someone's business, but the way the man treated my mom and I propelled me to write this compliant. They refused to reimburse me on that large investment( you know how expensive prom dresses can be before alterations) or pay for me to ATTEMPT to get it fixed my someone else. I'm very unhappy with these results and the treatment we got from them. I would not recommend Express Alterations to anyone. read more
