They open at 8am EVERYDAY (yes including Sundays!) which is super helpful when wanting to get an early start on the day. What I ordered: Chocolate ensaimada and fresh oj (5.50€) - Ensaimada was good but heavy on the chocolate, may have enjoyed it more not at 8am. - Orange juice was good but a tad overpriced (3+€) for the portion size in my opinion. I'm Korean Is this a place that discriminates? **She has Black hair** She gave me no fork or knife, so I wiped my hands with a personal wet tissue and ate with my hands. When I looked at other white people's tables, I saw that they were using one fork and knife per person. I asked for a fork and knife once, and She brought me one fork and knife for one person. The knife was even stained, and when I asked for another fork twice, She said, "This is Spain, so eat with your hands." I was so shocked that I asked what the other table was like, and She got really angry and told me to eat in Spain the Spanish way before leaving. The food was great to eat for starting the day off. The workers were friendly. There is lots of history about this place.

Ensaimadas. Don't miss them. But because I'm not a sweets for breakfast sort of guy, I also had a tasty cafe con leche with a savory pie. The coffee was good and the pie was nicely stuffed with lamb. The service felt a little rushed despite it being early with no queue. Their menu has multiple languages and "point" works well too. read more

Nice beautiful cafe in a small alley. Visited in June 2023. It wasn't hard to find using Gmaps. The ensaimada was light and airy with a dusting of pwderd sugr. Great dipped in coffee. Read a lot about this place and was expecting a bit or a tourist trap, but was pleasantly surprised. The ensaimada was wonderful. We ordered one plane, a second with custard, and a third with apricots. Surprisingly they were not overwhelmingly sweet, yet very light and tasty. Such a treat to try the ensaimadas at C'an Joan. Like eating a cloud, this is the pastry that dreams are made of. Topped with cream, topped with apricots or just plain, they are incredibly light and delicious. You won't even know you are eating them and then Poof! they will be gone. Great cafe con leche and even better service. Couldn't have been nicer, and we just totally dug the atmosphere in this great out Mallorcan haunt. read more

Delicious Pastries (5 stars) Our rental flat is right across the street. One of the oldest bakeries in Palma de Mallorca. Great selection of breakfast pastries. We bought 4: chocolate, apricot, cream, and another cream. Los quarto para llevar. They were still warm when we got back, and had then with coffee. They were super light and tasty, and creamy, and fruity, and the chocolate was delicious. The fact that it's directly across the street makes it so convenient, and all 4 cost 7.60 Euro. Whoa! I can't believe this place only has 10 reviews! This was literally one of my favorite discoveries in Spain! Their house ice cream is to die for and it's so cheap! I've tried every single flavor and every time I was in Palma I had to have some. There's something a bit different about their ice cream, so totally have a crave specifically for their ice cream sometimes. I've also tried their hot chocolate with whip cream. Lots of calories, but seriously such a good treat. I'm not even a hot chocolate fan, but this one was so rich that it totally won me over. Highly recommend this place. It's also so eccentric looking. This is the original place, founded at the end of the XVI century. It is, like all the hidden gems, difficult to find. Get lost in the "call" and ask around to get in. But if you find it, it is totally worth it. Get some ensaimadas ( the typical pastry in Mallorca, made with lard and flour) or the gató amb gelat (almond cake with almond ice cream), and pair it with a lacao (Cocoa drink) or with a cafe con leche. You are getting into the mallorcan experience, and you will soon enjoy the quietness of this marvelous island. read more
