One of my favorite dining experiences in Girona! The food was exceptional--succulent lamb chops,…read morerich and comforting cannelloni, and crispy fried artichokes with romesco sauce that I still dream about. To top it off, the cardamom-infused tea was a fragrant, soothing finish and the desserts...wow. The rustic setting added so much charm, and the owner was incredibly kind and welcoming. Truly an unforgettable meal and experience.

Everything about El Cul was divine. The appetizers (Moroccan salad, pumpkin soup, and meat selection) were tasty and just the right portion. The artisanal bread did come with a 1.10 supplement fee - kind of tacky but entirely worth it. And the olive oil? Good grief that stuff is liquid gold. Get the bread for the olive oil alone! My lamb shank entree was a very hearty serving and cooked to perfection. Crispy on the outside and succulent in. My friends had the chicken cannelloni which was much more petite yet still delish. (Save your pasta ordering for Italy. They do great rice dishes in Spain and this was tasty, but vai a Italia per la pasta della nonna!) Other friend's sea bass was cooked to perfection. Chocolate desserts, oh my! Yup, get those too.

They didn't cook mine all the way so I returned it. The middle was still cold and the meat was in a chunk and I couldn't put my fork through it. It was way under cooked. They brought it back in 5 minutes or so with the same piece. It looked like it was microwaved. You can see the water leaking from the meat of the fish. It was not appetizing. The appetizers were bland as well... I wish I yelped vs. randomly walking into a restaurant. That was my mistake. They need new management because this is not a way to make food property especially in Europe where freshness ingredients is #1.

Well, we came on a Saturday so we were expecting higher prices. When we got the menu, it was €48.50!!! That's crazy expensive. I recall seeing pictures on TripAdvisor that the tasting menu was €35. What a jump from one year to the next. So we opted for a la carte. Here's what we ordered: (For palette cleanser- the gave us complimentary warm pumpkin soup) Rice with Ceps and Foi Gras Out of all the dishes I ordered, this was my favorite. Rice was al dente, mushrooms gave it so much flavor and the foi was buttery and melted in your mouth. I was sure I could order another one and eat it all by myself. "Our Sea & Mountain" - rabbit stuffed with foi and scallop, crayfish This dish was just disappointing. Rabbit was really dry. Didn't taste the foi. The only good thing about this plate was the scallop Boneless suckling pig - two pieces of juicy pork. Cooked to perfection. In my opinion, the only thing missing was that crispy skin I was expecting. Overall - I really only enjoyed one of the dishes we ordered. Since it was a bit chilly outside, I was able to sit inside the restaurant with my dog so I really appreciate that they are pet friendly. Service wasn't the fastest either but the staff was very nice.

For starters: Iberian ham croquette made with sheep milk from Mas Mercè - pretty standard Pâté de campagne with foie micuit, pistachios and pickles - this we didn't finish probably because we were drawn to other things Warm salad of grilled seasonal vegetables, green lettuce sprouts, dried apricots and cured duck breast - really enjoyed this one! Grilled tuna belly with almond Meunière sauce, persimmons, fennel and citrus fruits - can't go wrong with tuna belly, and the sauce was good Sacha omelette with red prawn carpaccio and its juice - I pretty much gave up on this one since my wife doesn't like shrimp, but moments later they offered up a half portion! I like this one a lot! Meat: Wellington fillet with Café Paris sauce, onion and dried plums - this was definitely the best thing we had. It was perfectly cooked and the sauce was amazing. We were too full for dessert, but they felt badly that we had to rush out before the next reservation so they sent us off with sweets. Really appreciated the extra attention the staff gave us to ensure an excellent experience despite not having a reservation. What a good find!

Pedro at Hotel Cuitat de Girona knows the local scene and referred us to it -- wow! Do not be turned-off by the vibe when you first walk-in the door, as the place has a non-conventional aesthetic and staff that boarder on bohemian and edgy (e.g. you cannot judge a book by it's cover) and the dining rooms can appear empty, as he big draw is the outdoor courtyard dining area which requires a reservation. Walking into the place with my wife, we almost decided it wasn't our scene, but Pedro steered us right with his other recommendations, so we "went with it'! By luck they had a table for two outside and the night was absolutely magical. This is Catalonian-inspired food with formal culinary traing. The staff spoke very little English, but we wrestled through the language barrier with the very accommodating and hospitable young staff. who must each burn 2000-calories a night navigating the long runs between the kitchen and outdoor seated guests while providing attention, but not overbearing service. We visited Girona in July and the experience still lingers in our minds. Two nights later we couldn't get inspired to try something else on our last night in Girona, so we went back. The staff surprisingly remembered us and apologized for not having an outdoor table, so we opted to stay and eat in the shabby-chic avant-garde dinning room. Still a great experience, food and service. You can feel the passion of the young staff . We learned this is an "in-the-know" locals restaurant from a Girona-based cycling tour group we contracted with for the Tour de France trip after, and they were blown away we found out about the place. Go to this place ... seriously!!!!
