It seems as though each of the two locations have their own payout schedule. I always get paid more for my cans at the 16th Avenue recycling center. Five dollars a bag adds up quickly. Four stars for the 16th Avenue location and one star for the Hiawatha location. read more

The other day my wife and I took bottles and cans to this location to be redeemed. I mistakenly put the receipt from the can redemption machine in my pocket and forgot to give it to my wife to go with her redemption slip for the bottles. Today I went to this business with the redemption slip but they wouldn't give me the money they owe me because it was a different day from when I returned the cans. This is just wrong. They have my money and will not give it to me. Shameful!!!! Secondly, I have never met a more arrogant. disrespectful obnoxious staff than what they have at this location. They seem to not understand that the most important asset they have as a business is the customer. Without customers they would have a job or be in business. I wish I could find different location to do business with. read more

Decided to try out the new bag drop service in Hiawatha. I wanted to see how accurate their counting was going to be, so I counted out two bags of 90 cans each. I was very careful to make sure all were Iowa cans, redeemable, and all that the machines normally take when I feed them in. Should have received credit for 180 cans but only received credit for 143. This doesn't sound like much of a difference when you're talking 5 cents each, but if they're doing this to every customer day in and day out they're making quite a bit of profit through what is basically theft! We won't be using this service again. read more

I'm giving this a generous 4 stars because the place does exactly what it's supposed to and the staff are helpful and friendly. The building is small, but clean. As the previous reviewer mentioned, you can purchase their bags and boxes to organize your recycling at home for a very quick return process. Or they have two sorting machines available for cans and plastic. Glass and cardboard have their own designated areas. I've never had an issue just bringing in a trash bag full of cans and bottles unsorted, it just takes me a little bit longer. read more

I'm really getting tired of getting shorted because of some 16oz cans. my bags are always full past the line. Last time I brought a bag here I got $9 that was way past full! Kind of a rip off. read more

The place was clean is about the only thing I can say positive. The original Can shed had a sorting table to decide your plastic & aluminum which fell into a large container with appropriate marking to indicate the amount of money you. Received back. Now I am required to use their bags @ .50 wait. And expected to devise each size and type. I do not want 7 huge bags of recycles in my garage. That doesn't even count the bottles. No thanks I will wait until Hy Vee opens again. read more

Since when do we have to start taking tops off of plastic bottles? This is getting out of hand. Last time I had three tall boy cans in my sack and got threatened that I would be rejected the next time if I didn't separate. I'll vote against this bill next time. read more
