Tour of the Manitoba Legislative Building with Dr. Frank Albo…read more Growing up I always wished for a secret passage in my house. Considering my dad built our house about 10 years before I was born it was highly unlikely. I love finding secrets and hidden puzzles and I was a huge fan of the movie National Treasure with Nicolas Cage. When I visited Manitoba I had the chance to participate in a similar treasure hunt at the Manitoba Legislative Building. Dr. Frank Albo has studied the Manitoba Legislative Building for decades and found all sorts of secrets left behind by the Free Masons who built it. As he says continually in his tour "it's hiding in plain sight". We were fortunate to take a tour with Dr Albo himself. He took us around the outside and inside of the building and explained that all the decorations we saw were there with a reason and a purpose. For example the number of columns, their height, and width all meant something. They were designed and built that way on purpose and left for us to discover. The Masons believe that numbers have power and that Geometry is the highest of arts. All through the building everything was done with purpose and the same numbers - 5, 8, and 13 repeated themselves. As he pointed out decorative statues and murals he was able to explain the purpose behind all of it and it really made sense. He had an answer for everything. I loved the enthusiasm he spoke with; it made you hang on to every word. The tour ends with the most powerful position in all of the building and Dr Albo reminds us that is because even though it's a legislative building it is the people that hold the power. It also ends with a wish and some magic. Okay, not really magic, but it feels magical after the tour. I can't give it away because it's so cool and you really need to absorb the tour to truly appreciate it. I will share that this Hermetic Code Tour is a must if you're near the Winnipeg area. He does have a book titled The Hermetic Code that explains in detail about the Legislative Building, but I'd still say do the tour. It's amazing in person.

I used to live a couple of blocks away from the Manitoba Legislative Building. My apartment didn't…read moreface it, but I saw the building often when I went to work downtown. When the weather was decent, I'd walk home and pass by it. I recently returned to the city to check this building out. It's under construction. The road leading up to the building's steps off Broadway was barricaded on a Monday evening. This building is roughly three storeys tall and 250,000 square feet. What makes it special is its domed top with a statue called the Golden Boy. He represents Manitoba's eternal youth and progress. This building is a Manitoba provincial heritage site. The Legislative Assembly is an independent entity, separate from the Government of Manitoba. The 57 members are elected in single-member constituencies to represent the people of Manitoba. They meet in this building. There are also offices for the Premier, the Lieutenant Governor, and the ministers and deputy ministers of all government departments. When it's not under construction, it's free admission to visit it. When the Legislative Assembly is in session, you can watch the proceedings from the public gallery. You can do a self-guided tour of the building, to soak in its history and architecture. It has statues of people, bison, sphinxes, and more. From September through June, on Fridays at 2 pm, minus holidays, public tours are available. The catch is that you have to book an appointment before heading over to this building. I have a feeling that tours may not be as frequent these days with construction going on. Although the steps up to this building look intimidating and the building is over a century old, it does accommodate those requiring wheelchairs to get around. It's a nice touch. I'm not sure how long repairs will be happening. It was nice to see the Manitoba Legislative Building from afar, but I'd love to do a tour when the building is open to the public (I was there on Louis Riel Day) and I'm not in town for 1.5 days! He did return here in a casket after his hanging. Parking is available in a small lot by the house, but this is fenced off in the winter. Not that it matters since the snow is waist-deep. If you got here in the winter, there is also street parking. As the museum itself is only open in the summer, I will say that the outside is very pretty indeed. The really strange thing about this landmark is that it's smack in the middle of modern suburbia. People live across the street, as well as next to this building. If Riel were alive today, he'd probably be shooting hoops with the neighbours and checking out their pickup trucks, and probably trying to figure out where to get some good bubble tea. We visited here four years ago and enjoyed seeing this beautiful church we decided to return and…read moreattend the mass. They only have one on Sunday at 10:00. This entire area is an old French section. We met several of the parishioners who were very welcoming and friendly. The entire mass was in French and was quite an experience. They had a social gathering after the mass and served refreshments. A very friendly community. If you are near the area on a Sunday morning you should stop.

Impressive Cathedral with Beautifully Detailed Architecture!…read more I visited the Saint Boniface Cathedral on the afternoon of January 23rd with my mother. The cathedral is huge and very impressive and I loved the beautifully detailed and intricate architecture from the arched doorways, to the columns, to the decorations at the peak of the church. The circular window was also beautiful. The cathedral was mostly destroyed in a fire in 1968 and all that remains is the outer walls/structure. When we walked through the former arched doorways, we discovered that a new and modern church had been built inside the walls, behind the façade of the older cathedral, which was unique and interesting. There was a large cemetery in front of the cathedral that had quite a few very old tombstones dating back to the 1800's which were scattered throughout the large property. These were interesting to read and look at. I really enjoyed admiring the cathedral and taking some great photographs! There was nobody around and the atmosphere was very peaceful and relaxed. We crossed the street to other side of Tache Avenue and walked down a set of steps to a platform/dock at the edge of the Red River. The views of the Canadian Museum of Human Rights and the Espalande Riel Bridge from here were so beautiful and perfect, against the snowy backdrop! It was another great place for taking some stunning photos. This cathedral is definitely worth visiting and I enjoyed exploring this area with my mom! I look forward to visiting again during the summer to explore more of the cathedral grounds and cemetery.

We are asking Steve Cameron the remand center facility director to investigate JG Janitorial and…read morehelp our uncle recover over $1600 in wages so he wont be evicted and homeless in a crisis center JG Janitorial refuses paying its cleaners, Joe and Maria refusing to pay our uncle 12 days for March 20, 2020 and holding back 10 hours over time from the previous pay JG Janitorial owes our uncle over $1600 in pay The cleaning company is not doing their job, the cleaners leave half way during their shift and are paid their full shift, one lady comes in at 11pm parks her car and leaves after an hour 1220am, shes supposed to work 11pm to 2am for 3 hours she signed out 1230am in the lobby but signed out 2am in the employee time sheet, Erick her co worker changed the time in the employee time sheet 11pm to 1230am, now this woman takes home her time sheet, the cleaning company knows what she is doing and does nothing, this is wrong billing the remand center for 3 hours when this woman signs out 3 hours 4 days a week costing us tax payers money, this woman knows she is cheating the cleaning company and the remand center, we believe she is lieing about her mother watching her 3 children and that her children are home alone and that is why she wont stay past 1220am telling her children "mommy is going to work, i will be back in an hour" Erick also only works till 1am and signs out 2am and aso is paid for 3 hours, romeo who works mostly till 4am to 430am but is scheduled till 7am, all the cleaning staff like to work half their hours and get paid the ful 3 or 8 hours, the remand center needs to bring in n honest cleaning company this is putting police officers, inmates and visitors t risk and danger this cant be happening not with the corona virus in Winnipeg, we are asking that the remand center gets another cleaning company an honest cleaning company one where workers will sign in and out correctly and not leave half way during their shift and expect to be paid full 3 or 8 hours, with corona virus breaking out in winnipeg we need to keep this facility highly sanitized, and shame on the cleaning company billing the remand center 3 or 8 hours knowing that their cleaners re signing out and leaving half way into their scheduled shifts not only that but this cleaning company is not properly paying their workers and some re missing hours, our uncle was short changed 6 hours on his first pay and now the cleaning company wants to short change our uncle 8 days pay for march 20, 2020 and he will have to go to the labour board, this is a big circle the cleaning company doesnt pay the cleaners properly and the cleaners in retaliation leave half way during their shift Our uncle is an honest hard working man, Paul the supervisor told our uncle he can work 7 days a week now Joe the owner says he was scheduled to work with romeo only 4 days and is trying to rob our uncle 8 days pay, but this company will pay people 3 hours and 8 hours allowing workers to sign out and leave half way during their shift at $14 an hour, how much is this costing us tax payers let alone the risk to our health with the corona virus There is no slander or lies in this post JG Janitorial owes our uncle 6 hours from the previous pay and 64 hours for march 20, 2020 Thomas the onsite supervisor was told of this woman cheating the company and the remand center in mid febuary and still this woman is employed comes to work parks her car and goes home after an hour Joe the owner we emailed about this he emailed back thanking our uncle saying how he hates dishonest people but yet nothing was done, Amin told our uncle that Maria , Joes wife told the woman to go home after she was done knowing that the remand center will be billed 3 hours when this woman leaves 1220am every night, how can this company be dishonest especially with a police station we hope that rhe remand center will ask JG Janitorial to repay back all the lost hours for its cleaners leaving work half way into their time and signing out for full hours pay This post was written to make the pubic aware of this shady cleaning company and its dishonest workers Thank you JG Janitorial now our uncle will be evicted and homeless in a crisis center
