I really wish people would be more realistic about the big box stores. I find Canadian tire fine. I purchase the tools on sale and find pretty much anything I need when I go there. Admittedly, staff is young and perhaps not as helpful as a specialty store, but that's the business model. They offer pretty good value and a lot of real estate when it comes to selection. I am not going to give them a bad review. For the guy who took offense to not being able to wear his backpack in the store, that is common to many places. Theft is a huge concern in the Castlegar store and the request doesn't surprise me. I have set off the exit alarm with a magnetic tag that wasn't nixed on checkout. It didn't offend me that they asked to see my receipt, that only makes sense. Personally I am thankful they are here. Much of the experience is what we make it. read more

Worst Canadian Tire in Canada. 3 employees to tried to get an item down from a shelf and did not succeed, they proceeded to ask "are you still here for said item". The new employees seem positive and outgoing, the old employees I have seen there for years are rude, ignorant, and lazy. This Canadian tire is not truly Canadian. They should close down and replace it with a Costco. read more

I I could give this store zero stars, I would. After decades of frequenting the Castlegar Canadian Tire store, and thousands of dollars worth of purchases over the years, I will probably never go there again. Last week I went in with my son to look at lego and knives, a pretty normal everyday, and usually uneventful, shopping trip for a father and son. However, that day things were far from that. A few minutes after our arrival, we were swarmed by four male members of staff, including the manager, Ray, and ordered out of the store. Not even given a chance to enquiry why. Just order out. Halfway to the front of the store, while having my personal space invade, the manager, Ray, finally told me why we were being ejected. I had a backpack. After I explained that my car was in the shop and that a backpack made the most sense for me to pack heavy groceries etc. home, and after I pointed out other customers with backpacks, rather than treating me like a person, or even just a good customer, Ray kept walking at me and repeating that I needed to leave. Later at the front if the store he called the RCMP, and told me I could wait there and they would escort me out. I waited, and while I did I saw a friend. She also had on a backpack. I asked her if she thought it was fair that the stores policy (only just pointed out to me) wax fair, seeing how it didn't seem to be equilateral enforced. Before she could answer, the manager, Ray, left in between us (this is all shown on the CT cameras and reviewed by the RCMP) and pushed me back. When I took out my phone to check the time, Ray then grabbed it, pushed me again, and then attempted to snap h my glasses off my face, saying that I didn't need them and that they were a disguise (I have one darkened lens due to an eye injury. When thr RCMP arrived I explained what had happened and that I felt threatened and was physically pushed. I also called corporate Canadian Tire and made a formal complaint. I do not expect anything will come of this. And I strongly believe that I was profiled and targeted by Ray and his staff at Castlegar Canadian Tire, because I have a bit of a scruffy appearance and odd-looking glasses. Why else would I be treated like a criminal while others at the same time with backpacks like mine, shopped freely without a swat year of red shirts descending on them. So, be warned. Leave your backpack at home or prepare for the corporate tire to roll right over you. read more

Today I went to one store of Canadian Tire located in Montreal, after paying some items I try to pay the credit card with my debit but it did not work, so the employee told me that I might pay in cash in customer service (which was just next to), however before me there were 2 or 3 persons so I decided not to, then when I was about to exit to the store I guess someone was on the exit way, so she told me "you can leave from the entrance door, or at least that is what I understood, behind me a man who is the manager (name: Mohamed), ask in a very bad way that it was not allowed to take that door for exit, so I replied that the employee told me to used it, then he started screaming on me and he even use a bad word s...., and I am sorry but I reacted telling him that he can not talk to me like that and he continued treating me horrible and he told me that he was going to call security and I said YES PLEASE CALL THEM SO I CAN TELL THEM HOW YOU ARE TREATING ME, then I ask to talk with a superviseur and this one was apparently calm I explained him what just happened and then he ask to see my receipt just to verify if I was not stealing from the store, I have been doing my shopping in this store for 5 YEARS, I was asked to leave, badly treated, humiliated, unwelcomed, Also the manager was looking at me in a very threatening way. read more

Called 3 times looking for something in trail and castlegar. just Seemed like the staff didn't really want too look for what was i was looking for and Maxine in trail told me she wasn't willing to leave customer service and no one ended up calling me back. the department I was trying wouldn't answer the phone and store is now closed. I was replacing a bird feeder I had just purchased that was broken. There was an identical feeder on the shelf and wanted to check to be sure it was intact. I asked a man who obviously works there to loosen the top of the feeder as I have arthritis in my hands. HE ACTUALLY REFUSED TO HELP ME AND WALKED AWAY. I would love to let the manager know who he is but can't find contact info. If the manager is interested enough to pursue this, check return/replacement bird feeder 9 a.m. July 19. I purchased a 500.00 Coleman griddle from Canadian tire yesterday. On the Griddle it promotes a griddle kit which I purchased. I was super excited to use it as I already purchased a BBQ from here and thought it would add to my outdoor cooking experience. As soon as I turned it on the whole cooking plate warped terribly. I couldn't even finish cooking dinner last night. This is a manufacturer defect due to the fact the grill plate sits on it and is not bolted down. I brought it back and tried to bring back the grill kit and was informed that in order to get a cash refund for things they must be able to resell them. Now I know why I purchased a TV for my son from Canadian Tire for his birthday only to take it out of the box and find out it is used. Because the person before broke it and boxed it up like it was new so they could get a refund instead of a store credit. This is a serious flaw in the system. I had the box and receipts. They did refund me the BBQ but informed me that they didn't have to and refused to refund the griddle kit which I have no use for because they cannot resell it. So I'm out 40.00 plus tax now and have something I cannot even use. So if you purchase big ticket items from Canadian tire in Castlegar just be aware that the item may be defective and been boxed up like new just so the company could sell it again. I have purchased so many big ticket items and will never do this again. When I purchased my sons tv in June I couldn't figure out how a used TV got put on the floor I was baffled. Now I know how. Ray the manager refused to give me the general or store managers name and told me that this ends with him. The manager behind him was shaking his head. This was the worst customer care experience I have ever witnessed before in my life from this store and really see the difference in etiquette since general managers have been switched. Since Canadian Tire stores are all independently owned I will be shopping at the Trail one from now on since I have never had this issue there. UPDATE: I talked to corporate and their customer service is amazing and great. It's a shame I got better customer service over the phone then in person after I have spent so much money in that store. read more

I went into the store with my parents and son to look around buy Halloween costume stuff for my son. And was told to take my backpack to customer service.. I'm 40+ years old my smartphone wallet etc is on my pack I had it on both shoulders secured I'm place in not a thief she did not ask anyone else with a pack on but me in front of my child. I'm offended as they singled me out as I looked around countless others had backpacks some open over one shoulder or even shopping bags from other stores big and open she said nothing to them just me when the manager was alerted he thought it was funny and mockingly talked with the employee but you could tell he was not serious and still other people went in and out packs on and unchecked. The law is if they have a policy it's to apply to everyone not who they pick and chose. I won't go back Wal-Mart's just down the road. read more

Horrible service. Never pick up there phones. Manager doesn't care when you complain. Got ripped of by the automotive shop. Said they would check to make sure the the a/c worked before the refilled it. Said it was all good so they recharged the a/c. I get in the car and the a/c doesn't work. So I go back in and complain and their like sorry not are problem. Good luck shopping! read more
