If you're like me and you're a guy born in Canada, you probably love Canadian Tire. Where else can you spend two hours wandering around looking at everything from auto parts to kitchen gadgets; from storage solutions to power tools; from garden supplies to guns. It's a magical wonderland. But if you're like me and you've shopped there for a long time, you've probably noticed that the customer service isn't what it used to be. The cashiers are all very nice, but if you need help with something, there's just no one around. We were in the Kingsway Avenue location the other day and I wanted to pick up some Rubbermaid totes. We found the section fairly easily and made our way down the aisle. And of course, nothing on the shelves. Crappy Tire used to have buttons on the wall you could push to summon assistance, but alas, they too have joined the 21st century and now provide you with a number to text to ask for assistance. We tried this. (Pic attached for reference). No one ever came. So we took care of the problem ourselves. This is as a much easier and productive use of our time. Do not go to Canadian Tire Kingsway if you are lgbtqia2s+ this location discrimates against you the basis of who you are and because of your disabilities. Do not give this hateful and transphobic franchise any money! So back in December 2023 I took my car in because the car would just randomly die. The battery would be totally dead so the Canadian Tire Kingsway automotiv garage said oh its your battery so they replaced it. And the problem still continued to happen with a new battery. I took it back to them again the garage said we don't know and refused to do anything about it. So now it is April 8 2023 I have an unrelated problem with my power steering being really hard to turn so I dropped the car off April 7 2024 over night and left the keys in their drop box I get a call the next morning from the manager of the automotive department saying we refuse to look at the car. He said that there was a note on the account saying not to look at my car. I call the Canadian Tire Customer service and I find out that it was the franchise that put the note there and now refuses to deal with the car in any way. Customer service claims that I intimidated the staff there now I am a woman and transgender I don't think that the staff there also likes that either and discriminates against me because of who I am. I am also diagnosed with Asperger's Sydnrome as well and Canadian Tire has been told this in the past. Simply because I have trouble in social situations and the staff doesn't understand my disabilities does not give them the right to discriminate against me. I deny intimidating anyone and that is nothing more than a lie. I believe this is a retaliation by the franchise for making a complaint to the Canadiantire Corporate head office back in December 2023 about the no starting issue. I did nothing wrong. This franchise is hateful and transphobic! do not go to this location I would give this store 0 rating if I could! I have emailed the Canadian Tire customer service already about this and spoke to them on this phone about this matter. Canadian Tire tells me we can't force the franchise to fix my car, they don't seem to want to do much about it. Avoid this location at all costs! The parts and service department and parts desk is always awesome. Tristan at the parts desk let me use his tools to replace my battery which helped a ton, he didnt need to do that. Wayne and the old Indian dude at the service desk are also incredibly knowledgable and helpful with regards customer service. I recommend anyone who needs car parts or service come here. read more

My neighbor, an old lady went for an alternator replacement. They charged her $400 for a new alternator(average price in other shops $150-200 for a good one, $100 for a cheaper one) Among other charges $155 for ... wait for it...cleaning of battery terminals. You use a brush and it takes literally 10 seconds to "clean" battery terminals. Overall was around $760 and 2 days to replace an alternator on a 26 year old car. Pretty decent selection of garden, cooking, and outdoor items to make your season in Canada complete. The place is pretty large, but not exactly well laid out...so unless you know the layout of the store, you will be wandering around for a long time. I have heard bad things about the automotive department, so it wouldn't be my first place to get my car fixed, but their hours are better than most mechanic shops. Not a whole lot of staff on the floor if you need something...and so we have spent quite awhile looking for stuff that we should have found automatically. I also feel a bit cheated by their flyer price. I thought I was saving 80!! on an awesome pot, but then squinting for the fine print, it was based on not buying the whole set...merely what the pot was worth if you would have bought it individually...watch what you purchase here. read more

I needed my van looked at on Sunday morning for a leak and they thankfully got me in! I believe the person at the front of automotive desk was John.Very friendly and supportive and even went to get the parts himself due to the other place not having a delivery driver available! Good evening. Today I had a very bad experience at your store on Kingsway. My husband and I forgot our store credit card at home, but we had access to the app and, when we were already at the checkout, we asked the assistants for help. We were told that all the assistants were busy and we had to wait. It was clear that several assistants were not doing anything and simply did not want to help us. Our cashier, Ronda at checkout number 0001, was very nervous and tried to humiliate us, she screamed and constantly said that she had a line and would now cancel our items! Without waiting for help, we asked to leave our basket and went home using a credit card. Having returned to the store with a credit card, I had difficulty getting my cart and wanted to go change something in the store and get other items. cashier Ronda at checkout number 0001 again started screaming at the entire store and calling for the manager. the manager helped me return the goods and allowed me to go to the store to get something else. in the store I waited 20 minutes until they opened the display case and gave me the drill I needed, I said that I was shopping at checkout 0001 and my assistant and I gave this drill to the cashier Ronda at checkout 0001. The cashier Rhonda began to serve me very nervously, threw goods and along the way verbally humiliated me. repeated that I should "let off steam and calm down," although I simply silently put the goods in the basket. the whole process of shopping at the checkout was accompanied by nerves on the part of cashier 0001 Rhonda and very unfriendly statements in my direction, of course, this made me angry and I just wanted to leave this store as quickly as possible. In the end, the cashier Ronda once again advised me to get home quickly. At home, I discovered that there was no drill in my purchases - the cashier Ronda either forgot to give me a drill or did it on purpose. Now I'm even more upset. They had the best price... As a car enthusiast, I know Canadian tire has the worst reputation for ANY shop. Ask anybody about their experiences. Dont even read this, just ask your friends and family about their experiences with them. My experience? I got tires. They were cheaper than anyone else, I thought fountain tire would have some discount on goodyear tires but Canadian Tire seduced me like sirens at sea. $1045 for tires (fountain tires price included install, making me save ~$10 overall) The service was prompt but I had to order the tires off the internet, wait a day and when I picked them up there was a bit of a fuss. That was worth -1star. But the tires were installed and I signed the papers and drove away. They felt weird, I thought I had made the wrong choice as the jeep handled funnier. Then I found out my brand new tires were inflated to 22-24psi. On the tires, it say maximum 50psi and the vehicle says 35. Thats pretty dangerous. I noticed later that my fuel mileage fell to crap and I should have stayed with my almost bald tires. There was a little arrow pointing against the rotation of the tires. Luckily, it was all of them and all I had to do was rotate the tires side-to-side and inflate them properly. I've experienced worse but... wow... read more

Canadian Tire always reminds me of my childhood, and wandering around looking at all kinds of things while my Dad shopped for spark plugs or something. It really seems like you can buy anything here. I come here for various car-related accessories, but also for housewares, garden supplies, Christmas decorations, Halloween costume supplies, and everything for my Dad's stocking. Prices are reasonable, and this is also one of the closest hardware stores to my apartment downtown. I really hate that automated voice that goes off when you walk in the store, though. I can't say for sure, but I think this is the biggest Canadian Tire in Edmonton. The place is huge! We have a Canadian Tire closer to home, but I prefer this one, mainly because of the selection but also when they've got a good sale going on they seem to have a better supply of the items. The tool area is expansive, nicely laid out and there's a good selection of tools. The automotive section is pretty good too. In the spring they've got a pretty good greenhouse and gardening section. I've heard the rumours about getting mechanical work done at Canadian Tire but haven't had any major issues when I've had work done in the past. I haven't had any mechanical work done here, so I can't comment. That being said, unless it's a major repair, I'll do it myself. If it is a major repair, I'm not sure I'd want to use Canadian Tire. The most common auto work I have done is to buy winter tires. I have an extra set of steel rims with studded winter tires. The road hazard warranty is worthwhile and I have had a couple tires replaced under it. I've found the tires at Canadian Tire to be of good quality and I've never had any issues with them. Having the extra set of steel rims with winter tires mounted has saved us a lot of money over the years and you should do it too. It doesn't take much time and helps your tires last longer because they don't have to be taken off the rim and put back on, which is tough on the tire bead. Steel rims are cheap and if you have a set of winter tires (which you should if you live in Edmonton) then you already have the storage issue figured out. The main issue I have is that the store is never staffed very well and the people often don't know much. On occasion I've found a couple guys in the tool section that know what they're talking about, but they never seem to last. read more

I am one of those rare women who actually likes hardware stores. I love looking at all the tools and thinking about creative ways to use them. Canadian Tire has been a mainstay of my life, and I recently started shopping at this one. Canadian Tire is so much more than hardware (and tires, for that matter). There are sporting goods, household items, automotive things, and yes, tools galore. Canadian Tire has its own brand of tools (Mastercraft) as well as some sporting goods (the Supercycle brand of bike, for instance) which help to keep costs down. And yes, Canadian Tire still gives out its own "money" when you buy something, that can be redeemed for future purchases. read more

Canadian Tire is a great place to buy plants for a reasonable price. We've bought vines, bushes and small trees for significantly less than the garden centres and the annuals/trees are generally rated to survive our winter conditions. Our most recent trip last week netted us a weeping pine (5'), a sandcherry bush (5qt pot), a dwarf mugo pine (5qt pot) AND a large hanging plant for less than $100. The tree alone would have been that much at one of the high end garden centres. We also got cedar bark to top up our mulch at the start of the season for a fair price. You won't get much advice here as they lack knowledgeable garden staff, but if you know what you need this is a convenient and affordable source for hardy and attractive plants, especially if you are willing to wait for the summer sales! read more

Worst service in any Edmonton store. New ownership and has gone to total shit. Customer service agents that want to argue.. Jeff the manager does not care at all about customer complaints, does absolutely nothing to fix an issue and is more concerned about his lunch break than handling any customer concerns. let's his staff get away with smirking and laughing at customers issues the most immature representation I have ever seen in a corporation in my entire life! I would have fired them both on site if I was upper management. Prefer to use excuses that pricing in store makes no difference and I waited 15 minutes in an aisle where he would not respond to the pages a clerk was giving him. Ordered a spare tire that was listed in stock. Email said I could pick it up on the 4th, but no confirmation email came in stating that it was ready for pickup. Few days after I get an email saying it was delayed and ready for pickup on the 9th. It's now the 11th and still no response from Canadian Tire. The sale is over with as well, so I can't just cancel and repurchase the tire. All this after I tried purchasing tires in the store a few weeks prior. The service guy gave a parts guy my slip, and told him I will need tires from the back. He didn't grab them, and 30 minutes later still refused to grab them "that's not my job". I cancelled the order with the service manager standing right next to the original service guy and he didn't even care. I wasn't even mad at anyone, just disappointed with the whole show. I, like a previous reviewer, know that Canadian Tire does not have the best reputation for auto repair. Unfortunately, I found myself in a predicament on a Friday afternoon when my automatic window would not roll back up, and Canadian Tire was the only shop that would look at it that afternoon (I was told by two other shops that they could not help me until Monday). Unfortunately the window could not be fixed without ordering new parts, and because my car is an import, these parts would take a week to order (fine). I had to put a deposit down on the parts before they would order them (...okay). I got my car home that afternoon, and discovered my automatic locks would not remain locked. The auto locks had been working when I came to Canadian Tire, so something must have happened when the mechanic took a look at my window. I called Canadian Tire a few times over the week to check if the parts had come in. Despite leaving detailed contact information and a deposit, it always took the staff at least 10 minutes to find my information, and then another five to ten minutes to find someone to ask whether the parts had come in. Finally, a week later, my parts had arrived and I brought my car back in to have the window fixed. I told the man at the counter very clearly that my automatic locks were no longer working, and that I wanted it to be fixed while they had the door apart to fix my window. He wrote this instruction down on a work order and highlighted it. When it came time to pick up my car, a different man at the counter said "oh, you know your automatic locks aren't working, right?" Of course I knew, which is why I clearly told them to fix it while they had my door apart. After some confusion, it was explained to me that the first man at the counter had entered the work order in wrong, so the mechanic did not know to fix it. He offered to fix the locks for me for free (which I was expecting because their mechanics were the ones that caused the problem) and told me to bring the car in the next morning at 7:30 to have them fixed, telling me it would only take about an hour. Imagine my surprise the next morning when I arrived at Canadian Tire at 7:45 (luckily grocery stores are open early) and found the shop was not open until 9:00. I did a few errands and came back, and was told by the woman at the counter that my car would take several hours to fix. I asked if they provided a drive home service or a taxi service, because I did not want to wait (they don't). I expressed my frustration with the process and was asked "what do you expect me to do, apologize for the inconvenience?" (actually, I did, especially since this whole problem was their fault). Long story short, I will never bring my car back to Canadian Tire. I will wait until a more reliable shop can take a look at it, even if it takes a few days longer. I have never experienced such poor quality customer service from multiple people at one location. read more

Let me make a shameful confession that I love to shop at Canadian Tire. This one stop shop offers everything anybody's heart may desire. There is furniture and lighting, home electronics and tableware, sports equipment and camping supplies, power tool and auto parts. Sounds eclectic, and it is! I enjoy browsing Canadian Tire's selection of products, even when I don't need to buy anything. Sound geeky, and I am: ) Anyone who considers himself handy will appreciate Canadian Tire's selection of tools by Makita, Bosch and DeWalt. I have relatives who work in construction, and they swear by good quality tools bought at Canadian Tire. I really like to Canadian Tire's furniture section. Sometimes it's possible to find decent quality, reasonably priced pieces. This time of year Canadian Tire sells a nice selection of Christmas trees, ornaments and indoor/outdoor lights. There is a whole section of the store devoted to Christmas decorating. I bought a pre-lit Christmas tree here two years ago on sale, and it still looks good as new. Customer service is non-existent. Having never had any problem with any other Canadian Tire auto centre before, I didn't think twice about bringing my car here when I moved to Edmonton. Big mistake! Last winter, I went to get my tires changed to winter tires. I had an appointment, but it still took 3.5 hours for the change. This spring, I gave them the benefit of a doubt and got my all season tires put on with them. This time though, I bough rims as well, so that I could just do it myself the next time. Well this time, it took 4 hours! At least the asst. manager Tony gave me a card for a free oil change. I did promise myself that I would not go back, but hey, free oil change. So I made an appointment. Took a little over one hour for the oil change, no big deal. Then they told me about the things that they found wrong with the car - because they apparently always do a little inspection to find new things that you have to come in for. This time, apparently, they found that the car was leaking oil, which is funny because I've been parking my car in the same spot for two years and there has never been any evidence of any oil leaking (not to mention there was no oil leaking when it was inspected a few weeks prior). But I guess I'll have to be on the lookout now.. I could have left on this last day feeling okay with Canadian Tire. The service is sub-par, and they seem to cause just as many problems as they fix, but I got a free oil change, so I could have left feeling neutral (though never going back). But no, I go back to my car after the oil change and the glove box is no longer attached to the dashboard, and the cabin air filter is unscrewed and sitting on the floor of my car. It takes 30 seconds to reattach the air filter and glove box, and yet they didn't do it. Are they incompetent? Are they just assholes? Are they both? I would suggest that anyone who needs work done on their car find somewhere else, or you'll risk finding out just how bad they can be. read more

Canadian Tire (this store at least) does not honour their plant warranties. Do NOT buy any trees, shrubs, fruit plants, or perennials from them. This must be the reason the prices seemed so reasonable. While weeding my garden today I noticed the Haskaps (Honey berries) I had bought just one week prior were covered in powdery mildew. I had been told they were covered by a one year warranty and so I brought them back into the store. Apparently the whole garden centre is managed by one woman, Kim, who is the end-all be-all in the garden centre and nothing can be returned without her permission. She refused to take them back because they were diseased and actually said, "why would I want them." She said she would have no problems taking it back if it was healthy...well thank you very much Kim, if it was healthy I would keep it. She said the disease must have come from my garden (which it did not) and then said I wasn't watering it as the soil wasn't wet (the leaves were not wilting and other then the mildew was very healthy). The rest of my garden is thriving and typically powdery mildew does not spread from one species to another. I told her that watering wasn't the issue and I knew what I was doing in my garden (2 yrs. of education on landscaping in Alberta - though I didn't mention that). To that she said "Good, you'll know what to do with this plant then." I have never experienced worse customer service in my life. Not only was she rude, she was downright mean. I spoke to the store general manager but she couldn't do anything. How can a seasonal staff have so much power? In the end, it's just a $12 plant, but customer service is important. I'm told the owner will call me tomorrow but I'm not holding my breath. In just this last two weeks I purchased new bikes for the kids and a shed there - if this not resolved I plan to take all my business elsewhere. read more

Just sharing how Cdn Tire at Kingsway sucked. Thursday May 23,2013 at around 4:30 pm. I went to the store to buy a replacement battery for my RAV4 and to get a key duplicated. As I walked into the store, I was greeted (good) by a lady carrying a handheld radio. I told her I need a key duplicated - she pointed me to the key kiosk and I heard her page somebody, then she walked away. I was standing there for 10 mins, nobody showed up. I noticed the customer service button on the side of the counter - I pressed it 4 times, allowing 2 mins interval. Still nobody showed up. I even talked to one of the cashiers - she said somebody is coming. I returned to the kiosk and waited a few more minutes. I thought the wait is becoming rediculously long, so I kept on pressing the customer service button. Now I have 3 staff members rushing in. The first to arrive was a guy who looked like he just woke up. I gave him my key chain and pointed to the key I want duplicated. He seems confused and does not know what to do, the other staff member continued what he was doing. When she gave me the duplicate key - we found out the guy gave her the wrong key to duplicate. She fixed the mistake and along I proceeded to the battery/parts department. When I arrived there, there was nobody at the counter, and 3 people lined up. When I got my turn after waiting around for close to 30 mins, I got my battery, staff explained that I have to present old battery to any customer service at any Cdn Tire in Canada. I then proceeded to the cashier to pay.There were only 3 tills open, all with long lineups. The cashier in the till was wearing a "Trainee" tag - which I understood as a reason to be slow. After I paid, I installed the new battery and brought the old battery to the customer service (as I was told). When I arrived there - there was only one staff - assisting a customer who is returning something. There was also another guy waiting in front of me. It took the lady a good 15 mins before she finally finished the return and browsing through the flyers with the guy. Nobody showed up to assist, despite the long linup already. The next transaction went rather quickly. When my turn came - the staff is looking for the box, I said the battery came with no box. She explained the box is needed for batteries returned for core charge. I said the staffmember who sold me the batterrry minutes ago never mentioned anything about a box - he just said bring old battery to customer service. She told me to leave the battery at the front and get the box from the parts department. When I arrived at the parts dept - nobody is at the counter, and I can see the only staffmember present helping another customer on the floor. When he came to the counter - I told him I had been waiting for a while and I just need a box for old battery. He said - "wait, somebody is coming". I waited some more. I remained standing there for at least 15 mins. Suddenly a guy approached the counter and at the same time the guy who sold me the battery appeared from the back. He attended to the other guy right away, without even asking who was there first. When my turn finally came - I told him the cashier from the customer service sent me there to get a box for the old battery. He told me old battery returns are done there and told me to go back to the front to get the battery. I explained to him that the lady in the front told me just to get the box, and there's no way in hell I am going to the front wait, and go back to him and wait again, I wasted 2 hours already. He gave me a slip and told me to present it to the lady at the front. He did not give me a box. I took the slip to the front and waited another 5 mins. I presented the slip and the lady gave me $15 cash. I said how about the GST for the $15 core core charge, showed her the original invoice where it obviously charged me GST on the everything I paid for, including the core charge. She showed me the slip, where it says $15, I said, yes $15 plus GST. She insisted no - there is no mention about GST on the slip, and instructed me to go back to parts department. I walked out in frustration. This is my worst shopping experience by a wide margin. My impression is - the store is improperly run, most of the staff are incompetent. read more

So happy with the Service Centre at Kingsway Canadian Tire. I am thrilled with my car starter and my new winter tires! I have a new car and was shocked how much a car starter would cost at the dealership. Made an appointment to get winter tires and also got a car starter installed. Great service. Great price. We have an motor vehicle accident. It was discouraging since we are scheduled to return to Vancouver from Edmonton on the following friday. We got rear ended by a huge truck. So we lost both back lights. Also we had trouble closing our trunk which caused trouble seeing out the back window, Wife and I decided to ask someone at Canadian Tire, We went inside, made a purchase of a string. I went to Car tire service desk and and asked for scissors to cut the string. Still had problems with the trunk. Went back and Hamza the service person came. Due to liability he could only suggest. However he went beyond what i expected from an employee of canadian tire, Gosh after the help provided by Hamza, i told my wife this is very CANADIAN, and thats what CANADIAN TIRE represents to us in Canada. Utility trailer tire went bad at the mall during a quick stop on trip from Alaska to Alabama. Found out all the trailer tires needed to be replaced, including a spare. Canadian Tire had tires in stock and expedited the repair. I was in and out of the store within a few hours. Their support was appreciated. This was the only issue on my 4000 mile drive and their store made it a minor impact. read more

Couple years ago I got Canadian tire to replace my engine and transmission ,clutch pressure plate etc. I picked the car up , after a day I notices the antifreeze lowered , took it back said nothing wrong they said , next morning it was steaming under the hood , leak from the heater core hoses , see where they was pinched on with a screw driver, so they did pressure check and yes was 2 leaky hoses because of them, so they fixed them , then said axle was leaking, so replaced the axle seal at their cost after telling them I take them to court. Pick ed the car up drove down the street the wheel was shaking looked and the wheel nuts were not on tight only part way on so I tighten em end of problem, that was only part of the problems to many to mention Last summer took my car there misfire, they say Cadillac converter and oxygen sensor was need .I replaced them.Picked car up work worse then b4.Took it back and put on machine, then found out it was water in the spark plug holes, was the problem, so they fixed that.Today I had a flat ask if could change a tire over.So they started changing the tire, had problems getting it on the rim because low profile tire ,it was a good tire til they messed the side wall up , now im out a tire because of their poor workmanship, I did get my money back, so Corperate office is involved now.Bottom line is they need workers who know what they are doing.OH yes I forgot they tried to kick me off the property for speaking up about what they did and security came after me being asked to go out in the shop and look at the tire, then as I was speaking other works in the shop gathered around if so to jump me so to speak, I told them I was talkin to the manager and the worker doing the work but yet the conversation heated up, in ending I went as a customer and ended up being treated like a criminal because of their poor workman ship ,management didn't say boo to the workers just let it go on,word of advice stay away from Kingsway Canadian tire all I got to say read more
