If, like me, you are into military history and military aviation, this is a wonderful place. Everything here is in flying condition and there is an incredible selection of understandably Canadian military aircraft. From WW2 era stuff right up to the present day. The facility is huge and comfortable. Fortunately for me the day I was there was temparate so I could spend plenty of time outside behind the museum with the birds stored there as well. Just the right mix of real planes and displays of artifacts and informative plaques. This would be an enjoyable visit for anyone even mildly interested in history, but if history is your passion? We had a wonderful visit to the museum today. It's a must see for aviation enthusiasts, the collection is crazy (say my boyfriend who is obsessed with plane and is a pilot). They also have interactive elements like the flight simulator and VR experience (extra cost). A lot of the staff is made up of retired pilots and mechanics who are incredibly friendly and eager to share their knowledge. My brother and boyfriend loved getting to sit in the actual planes. There's even a small cafe inside with a great view of the runway. A perfect way to spend the day and pay tribute to our veterans as well. Even though it is a bit far from Toronto, it's definitely worth the visit. You can also stay as long as you want, go in and out for food breaks if you need. read more

While it's not an SR-71 Blackbird at the entrance, the Museum definitely has curb appeal with a Canadair Starfighter in a full vertical takeoff by the door. That's the start of a tour of Canadian Air Force history that takes us through a hangar full of all sorts of military and coast guard planes plus a collection of memorabilia and mementoes. Everyone was lined up outside to catch a (I think) Lancaster bomber that was on display and took off to circle Toronto. The RCAF Hornet being towed in to the hangar was also a treat. Fantastic display of flyable and static aviation. Would love to see another Hawker Hurricane (the original was unfortunately lost in 1993 to fire). The sound of Rolls Royce Merlin engines never gets old. Wished there was a Macchi fighter from 1941, or Mitsubishi Raiden from 1944. read more

This place is nothing but AMAZING! The Runway Café is amazing! I recommend the BLT with whole wheat bread. The staff is trained very well, it's very interactive with children (I got to sit in some cockpits). There is history being taught and there's a lot more! Highly recommend! read more

This is a great place to see & learn about warplanes from World War I to the early 70s. Most planes are from the time around World War II & most exhibits in the gallery are about World War II. You can go into the cockpit of a few of the planes & on weekends in summer they fly some of the turboprop planes. read more

THE BEST AVIATION MUSEUM IN THE WORLD!!!! My family loves everything to do with classic planes. Normally we visit museums where, at best, 1 or 2 types of planes are airworthy and flying. This museum has 12 WW2 era planes that not only fly, but that you can fly in!!! You can fly in a Lancaster bomber, C47 Dakota, Canso, B25, Tiger Moth, Stearman, Firefly. Some of these planes you cannot fly in anywhere else in the world. Unbelievable! There are lots more planes in the museum to look at, and you will get the added bonus of being able to see various planes being taken in and out and then flown over the museum too (wait until the Lancaster comes overhead). For engineers, there is even a restoration section where you can see an actual restoration being done. (You wont find this anywhere else on a general museum admission ticket). We loved it! Amazing museum that lets you walk around and even under some of the planes. Great, great, SUPER FRIENDLY staff who, by the time we left, felt like family! Especially want to mention the LOVELY Marsha, who not only helped with the booking but also came down every day to make sure we were ok for our flights, all our pilots including the super friendly and knowledgeable Dave, my Stearman pilot Liam (a great pilot, flies as smooth as butter). Thanks so much everyone from the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum. It was a holiday we will never, ever forget. We arrived at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum directly by taxiing on our C-47 close to the museum and then parked and entered. Our Yankee Air Museum group trip went first to the museum cafe for lunch. My wife ordered a BLT that was very tasty; I went crazy because I saw they had Fish & Chips as well as Poutine on the menu...so I ordered both, even though they were both on my list for dinner. The Poutine was the standard French fries covered in gravy with cheese curds and was as delicious as it was not good for me. The Fish & Chips was good although after I finished the Poutine I saw the fries as just more Poutine but without the gravy or cheese curds! Now for the Museum...we were in a small group for a guided tour of the aircraft by a very knowledgeable guide. He gave us a thoroughly fascinating look at some of the incredible aircraft they have on display. Without a doubt the highlight for me was the Avro Lancaster! If the sheer size isn't impressive enough, this is one of only two flight worthy Avro Lancasters remaining in the world. Ask for a tour guide to get the most out of your visit! read more

Just brilliant. Got a see a stately, dignified, grand old Lancaster, perfectly restored. All the planes located in this hangar, from back in the day, are fly-able. The dedication and love of flying and pride in our RCAF is clear the minute you enter this amazing place. You can pay to be flown in one of the older planes. This Museum is self-sufficient and relies on tourists and donations. It was very busy, all age groups, everyone just in awe at some of the machines which proved to be such reliable workhorses. Would highly, highly recommend a visit. The volunteers are knowledgeable, personable, and willing and eager to answer any questions. read more

Oh my word, what a wonderful treasure in Canada! If you love history, airplanes and war heroes then you need to visit. First, (as of today) only two flyable Lancasters exist ... the UK, and guess who else has one? Hamilton, Canada and she is one BEAUTIFUL 78 year old bomber! You can even pay to go on a flight with her. The care and expertise of maintaining this bomber is mind blowing. Yes, we traveled from Florida to see her. We were not disappointed. Every detail in this museum is perfection. One reason our visit was amazing was due to volunteer, Bill Brown. He spent over two hours giving us a personal tour. His knowledge and details made our visit come to life as we walked among living history. The CF-101 Voodoo, B52, Starfighter, DC-3 Dakota ... uh, wow! Just wow! Thank you, Bill Brown, for teaching us so much. His storytelling and humor was a main highlight of this visit. Plus, you even get to watch repairs being professionally made to aircrafts in this jewel of a museum. Thank you Canada, for investing, preserving, teaching and keeping our heroes alive! read more

I don't get to travel to very many warplane museums but this was a really nice way to spend an afternoon. It doesn't matter if you are in to airplanes or military history, it's hard for most people not to appreciate Themis museum and the war history here. The planes and artifacts are amazing and it's something that all people, young and old, should come to see. If you have a few hours to spend here it is well worth it. They even have a restaurant so you can make this a stop for a long lunch. Enjoy! read more

If you love planes, this is definitely one of the place you must visit. You can spend up to a day here if you read through all the descriptions of the models. You can also get one of the volunteers to show you around and get on the model planes. Lots to learn about the history of Canadian's contribution for the war. Lest we forget. read more

So, I've been to a few airplane museums in my life, and this is a special gem. It was a crummy, icy and wet day, and Lee and I were unable to do our normal out-of-doors activities, so I asked him to suggest an interesting museum to visit. He suggested here, because it had been almost 20 years since he last visited. It's attached to the Hamilton airport, inside a large hangar, but it has a very welcoming entrance, a little bit like going into an old airport. There's a swooping airplane outside, one of the few non-working airplanes in the museum. And that is what sets this place apart from the other airplane museums out there. There may be larger collections, and there may be collections that have more famous airplanes. But this museum? All of the planes are capable of flight, or are in the process of being restored to a state where they can be flown. So it's a museum where it seems like something is always going on. They had their famous Lancaster bomber (one of only 2 still flying) partially torn down, props on the ground, engines exposed, being worked on. You will smell oil and grease. You will encounter retired old guys who want nothing more than to spend their afternoon telling people about these planes and why they were important. These planes are really living history. I'd highly recommend it for anyone in this area who has any interest in all in aviation history, because this museum will not disappoint. read more

As being apart of the RCAF I was taken away by the beauty of all the planes. The history this museum has to offer is amazing. Not only are they on display many of the planes are in working condition and can be taken for a ride for a price. The highlight of the museum is there Avro Lancaster bomber. This plane is the reason I came in the first place. It's one of two working lancasters in the whole world. If you have $3500 lying around you can actually get an hour flight in that beauty. Flying through the Hamilton, ON airport? Stuck with a long layover? Head across the parking lot to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum to pass the time. There are warplanes aplenty AND they have a canteen that has better (and cheaper) options than the airport. I took my family of 5 there and it made our day fly by. They even have kids meals that come with tiny (cheap) plastic airplanes....thing is, we were going to Disney & those planes are my son's favorite souvenir. read more

Great museum! The planes on display are beautifully kept and the hangar area was huge! Tons to see, great exhibits, and very nice staff. It's not a massive museum so it won't take hours to go through but the hour or so you'll spend there is totally worth it.
