I stayed here with my friend who has spent most of the Covid period in London. He moved here from the Nottinghill Area looking for a quieter area of London. I asked how he chose this area versus say the London Eye area. He moved in back in spring of 2021. He said he looked around and this was newly developed. The apt building he moved into was beginning to lease units. It's a bit of a hike but not too bad in my book. I'm the ultimate city dweller who appreciates the public transportation life. Canary Wharf is FiDi.2 while City of London is the FiDi of London. Recently adopting a nomadic life, Canary Wharf reminds me most of Chicago. read more

Came here for the first time everr for my baby's birthday last month!! It was so cool :)) I'd wanted to go for a super long time but didn't before as it's quite a ways from central London, but it was well worth the trip. Super tall buildings, everything very new, clean, and professional looking. Some of the nicest architectural structures I've seen which actually reminded me a bit of Singapore! We rented a car to get there and there was actually some security on the way in, but they waved us through. I think any car entering has to get checked, which makes it feel a bit safer than other areas of London. Reuters, Citi, JP Morgan, Fitch, and The Economist headquarters and more all located here within close proximity! Canary Wharf is nothing like what we think as London. It's more like lower Manhattan. High rise office buildings everywhere. If you are not dressed in suits, you feel like you are underdressed. They have plenty of restaurants here, all are pricy for what it is and haven't run into amazing restaurants yet. Restaurants are always busy, expect some wait or avoid peak lunch/dinner time. They also don't lack shops. All the name brand is here. I had a shoe emergency while walking towards an office. I asked my coworker to quickly fine me a closet shoe store possible and he managed to do so very well by locating a reasonably priced brand among all other high end brands. View from any high rise office building is nice with River Thames near by. Water is everywhere around and just nice to look at them when you think you are so stressed. read more

Pick a Saturday or Sunday and come to Canary Wharf, taking the train from the Tower Gateway above-ground station (at Tower of London). The financial district is quiet on the weekend and you'll have the entire place to yourself. You'll find a number of highly-rated restaurants, even a Shake Shack, parks and water features, and a unique part of London few tourists see. Despite what some may say - that Canary Wharf is the financial district, that it's not the place to stay as a tourist, that it'll be dead evenings and weekends - Canary Wharf turned out to be a great place to stay as a tourist. True, it is a primary financial hub, with many office workers coming in, but also as a result, there are many restaurants, bars, and shopping malls. In fact, we never found any "dead" nights at all, even on Sunday! People seem to come to Canary Wharf as a destination in itself. As a tourist, it's convenient to have all these restaurants and shopping at your doorstep; the Canary Wharf Underground (Jubilee line) takes you right into Central London within 20-25 minutes (Westminster or Green Park -- and easy to switch to other lines); and the views of the water (Thames and canals) are fabulous. Great area for walking around or running - it's clean, modern, and safe. A bonus: The wholesale Billingsgate Fish Market is nearby (although no direct way to walk - it's kind of circuitous to get there by foot, but it can be done), and if you're an early bird (4-8AM) and want to see the freshest fish being hawked, that's a fun place to see! read more

Canary Wharf is a busy, financial area of London, served by a large station with Underground services on the Jubilee line, connecting you into central London or even further east to Stratford, and the DLR. Despite being known for its association with big business and banking, of late it has become rather trendy housing many restaurants from your average chains including Nando's, Five Guys and Wagamama, to coffee shops such as Nero and my favourite Starbucks, and then mini shopping malls such as Jubilee Place and Canada Water. Then there are a few other brands in terms of dining which are a little rarer such as The Ivy, Gaucho and Carluccio's. Canary Wharf is also home to multiple hotels, including two Hilton hotels, including a new hotel in the Curio by Hilton branding, Lincoln Plaza where I had an excellent stay during the night I spent here. There are tonnes of offices and big buildings, which could make navigation around Canary Wharf a little tricky or unorthodox, for example, to get to my hotel from the station, I had to go through 35 Bank Street (cutting through a building) before crossing a bridge, cutting through some construction work and then making a few turnings, to the point it was probably less hassle to pop on the DLR for one stop from Heron Quays. HSBC and JPMorgan Chase are just two of the banks which are based here, the latter is mainly an American bank who I've never seen offer any products in the UK so surely having their European headquarters here is rather weird? Canary Wharf has done so much from making it that treck from central London to a pretty cool place where tourists would actually go to stay, despite having an awkward layout at times such as getting around the area which includes loads of mini shopping areas, which aren't too well linked together it still is a good place to visit in London, and perhaps stay, based on the Lincoln Plaza Hilton I stayed at during my night in London. the hotels were much cheaper than central locations, while still being a beautiful hotel with larger rooms than you'd get 10-15 minutes down the Jubilee line in Central London. 4* read more

Canary wharf is my only favorite place in London in terms of working and living. I got a feeling that every time I stepped into canary wharf as if I came along to a different country. The modern architecture of canary wharf just so different from the rest of the city. I used to work here, the working environment is impeccable. As to residence, there are several modern apartments around this place, even though those apartments may little pricy, but totally worth it, environment and facility etc. are perfect both indoor and outdoor. read more

Every summer, Canary Wharf hosts a heap of events that will have something that appeal to everyone. I have watched 'The Magic of Musical' which was awesome and singing to Mamma Mia at the end. In July, they showcase 'Madame Butterfly' which was just epic and had me moved to tears at the end. The park was packed and but chilled which allows you to watch or read or hang out in peace. It's only when you no longer work in Canary Wharf and have to commute to some godforsaken place like Bromley or Basingstoke that you truly appreciate Canary Wharf. The whole time you work there, you think the place is a drab corporate faceless steel and glass area full of nothing but chain stores. And it is. But it's so convenient. You hardly ever have to get wet. It's served by Jubilee line and DLR, and soon Crossrail. They put on free events in the summer, and really try hard to make the atmosphere more than just the drab corporate place mentioned above. And the views from pretty much any of the office buildings are quite spectacular. So don't diss it until you no longer work there! If you don't work there.... well, there's nothing remarkable and it's not really worth visiting because you can't get into any of the buildings and the shopping isn't great - go to Westfield instead for Shopping, or the Emirates Airline for the views! read more

I loved this area!! Business but residential at the same time! It's by the water so if your scared of winds you might just be blown away by this area lol. Very close to the northern line and the above ground trains. A lot of nice bars and resturuant a Herero keep you occupied and you will never go hungry. There is also a small shopping center around in case you need to pick up anything including a mark & Spencer's or like how they love to call it "marks and sparks". Would love to return. If you're looking for sightseeing with a difference (and pretty decent shopping too), then take yourself into Canary Wharf, preferably by the DLR, to get the full Metropolis experience. The famous landmark is, of course, 1 Canada Square, but don't miss Reuters Plaza, and crossing over the bridge to the real drinking area on the Wharf, with Browns and Bar 38 being the most decent bars. As far as shopping is concerned, you have the Cabot Place area, with the cheaper end of the Canary Wharf retail experience - you'll find fairly modestly sized units of Top Shop, Dorothy Perkins, Gap, Monsoon and Next here, alongside the slightly more upmarket (Hobbs, Ted Baker). At the far end, you have a reasonably sized Waitrose, with a nod to John Lewis on two upper floors. A recently opened lower level (turn right out of the DLR station rather than left) will take you to some more boutique style units, and a rather incongruous River Island. The second retail unit is Jubilee Place - follow the signs through to Canary Wharf underground (not DLR), and you will see directions to the other unit. This is somewhat unfairly known as the posher side (although a fair few of the banks that dictated that have crashed), with Whistles, Molton Brown, and Jo Malone. There's also a large Boots and what I can only describe as a travel-size M&S over this side. As far as noshing on your shopping/sightseeing trip is concerned, stay over in Jubilee Place - Tiffin Bites and Wagamama come highly recommended, or if you want something lighter or healthier, have a smoothie and a health pot at Crussh. A word of warning - don't go there to shop between 12 and 2, any time on a Friday, or during half term! read more

25 years ago this area was disused former docklands and a complete wasteland with just the odd warehouse to break up the bleakness! Thanks to the Thatcher government of the 80's ( shock horror!) the land was given away at ridiculous prices to companies in an effort to stimulate a new business area. 1 Canada Square was the first to be built and gradually more and more skyscrapers have been added - heaven knows what this will look like in 20 years time. This may seem very humdrum to any US readers but this area is quite unlike anything else in the UK and most of Europe for that matter. Stood in the centre of the estate you could be in downtown NY. Lots of great shopping is available. There are many places offering burgers in town and you will find yourself inexplicably eating one living here. Kiwi burger Beef, beetroot, egg, pineapple, aged cheddar, salad, mayo and relish. £8.95 When I find myself at GBK, I always find myself ordering the kiwi burger. The beetroot, egg and pineapple always draws me in and blinds me to anything else. It's a decently good burger and definitely tastes better than say going to the Golden Arches. Canary Wharf is a massive new development. The best known bit is the huge office building at 1 Canada Square, which is the tallest building in London, but not open to the public. But there's also a whole complex of pedestrian walkways, shops, stations, roads (frequently under the other stuff), businesses All this is built around a network of docks. Money is everywhere and it's all very clean and pretty. Personally I've been through a few times on long runs on my way to Greenwich. As a sweaty oik with no money I do feel a little out of place. Everybody in Canary Wharf wears a suit. Well, except for a few folks in lycra jogging round. But it's nice lycra It was interesting to see one of the Greenpeace ships in one of the docks. It's also interesting to see the contrast as you pass through: this is urban regeneration, and surrounding areas are old-style East London and not nearly so affluent. If you do decide to head on to Greenwich, down through the interestingly named Isle of Dogs, Mudchute and Millwall Parks are actually surprisingly nice. As to London Marathon's course through here it was a low point for me. To explain: the course takes you down to the bottom of the Isle of Dogs, then you turn and head back up, (passing 17 miles where the spectators from Runner's World have their support point), with 1 Canada Square in view ahead. It seems like only a short way before you turn and head for the finish Unfortunately I'd forgotten that the course then takes several turns around the Canary Wharf area. I'm sure it wasn't really as long as it seemed, but to me it felt like I was plodding back and forth for ever and I'd never get out of there. Not helped by the fact that by the time I arrived all the suits in the area seemed to have pooled around a few pubs and were getting drunk and mouthy, with the 'support' sometimes sounding more like heckling. Nothing really nasty and I was probably taking things the wrong way due to tiredness, but it was still a low. After all 20 miles is the location of 'the wall' for many, and while proper re-fuelling does ward that off, it's still hard going as you head towards it. Very glad when I finally turned for home for real. As I couldn't decide where on the 26.2 mile London Marathon Course I should put a flag, I decided it would be better to split it up so this is one of a series of reviews I've done on points along the course. OK It's true if you don't like concrete and lots of modern buildings, Canary Wharf is not the place for you, but personally I find it brilliant. High rise towers, modern ambience, security guards and lots of well heeled business people make it a bit less rough feeling than some parts of old London town. Great selection of shops and eateries and a few bars scattered around, a world class tube station and services and I love living and working here on business trips. Oh yes and they have some good gym selections if you are into fitness, or just jog around the Wharf at lunch time. Nature lovers might not like it though, so watch your style I guess. read more

This is one of the largest lamdmarks in the city and whilst you cannot go up it - at the moment - it marks the modern city - neatly manicured gardens that wouldnt look out of place ina Disney theme park! I recall many years ago when the tower was open to the general public and I saw the views from the top which were very impressive. Now, its just anither tower block though there are plenty of bars and restaurants in the area with great waters edge seating - just avoid the place at lunchtime as it will be full of city workers. It also tends to get quiet rather quickly as it is more of a work place. However - if you're at a loose end then worth a visit and the shopping centre is covered! read more

Its a massive financial centre which im sure most people reading this will already know. Theres lots of jobs here for people in Finance especially if youre graduates. Theres a shopping centre next to the tube station which is ok but its not very big. Theres a GBK (gourmet burger kitchen) which is nice and a few other nice restaurants in it, as well as a few bank branches but not much else. read more
