Brunswick is located in Russell Square and filled with outdoor dining venues, shops you may be familiar with and some small boutiques as well. The Brunswick Shopping Centre, just under half a mile from London Euston Station and really close to Russell Square Underground Station is a small shopping complex in Bloomsbury, London, located between Brunswick Square and Russell Square it is a fairly impressive building with impressive adaptations to make it seem more modern than old. I called in here to grab some food before getting the tube nearby to Wembley Stadium, there was a decent range of shops and places to eat, including brands such as Superdrug, Starbucks and Nandos', and a Waitrose store. Other stores here include Sainsbury's Local, Boots and 3, or if you're feeling hungry there is also the likes of itsu and Gourmet Burger Kitchen, the latter I only found out about after leaving it appeared to be hidden in the centre - shame! The entrance to the centre up a ramp which soon converted part into chairs looked quite dangerous, for me it looked like an accident waiting to happen with no clear lighting or signs to show it, which is why I can't help but wonder how this part of the building passed health and safety, which I can only guess is there down to it being grade II listed. A small selection of shops and places to eat and drink in decent surroundings, slightly quieter than getting something perhaps inside the Euston Station (or the square outside), and perhaps somewhere easy and nearby to go ahead of grabbing a train so it certainly is worthy of a solid three-star rating. read more

I may be a horrific snob, but since when has there been an L.K. Bennett in the middle of a council estate? There is now. The Brunswick is a strange creature, catering for the gentrified folk who live and work around Russell Square, yet in itself consisting of mainly social housing built in the early 1970s. Originally a project in mixed housing, including some luxury apartments interspersed with less expensive housing, the Brunswick Centre ran out of finances before it was completed, and was sold to Camden Council. It slowly rotted away, with the majority of shops eventually closing, before being revived in 2004 with the opening of Waitrose and a whole host of gentrified shops and restaurants. The Brunswick is now, a bustling shopping centre, with a positive vibe, and some interesting architecture, it is a Grade 2 listed building. Well worth a visit if you are in the Russell Square area. read more

Although one of the much lesser known areas for shopping, the Brunswick is very popular with those who know of it. It offers quite a few of the more high-end of the high street shops such as Benetton, Hobbs, Joy and French Connection but also New Look and Office. There are also many restaurants such as Yo Sushi and Carluccio's but also lots of places where you can grab a quick bite like Crussh and Starbucks. And even if you're not looking to spend money it's a nice and airy place to have a walk around - after it's £24million renovation one could scarcely believe that the original site is actually 40 years old and grade II listed. read more

They've got Lots of food and clothing shops, a Robert Dyas, a Holland & Barrett, a movie theatre, and a Waitrose. Also I Love that they have seating areas.. Perfect for the warm weather! This is without a doubt the strangest place I've ever been shopping in. Really. I dont get it. It's a housing estate, just a normal (and not very pretty) housing estate. With a bunch of shops in the middle. It's weird. When my friend told me it was an old estate, I just thought that they'd done it up. And they have, it's very nice indeed. But I didn't realise it was still an estate until I noticed the flats around the outside while I was eating my lunch. It's weird. Once you've got past the weirdness, you'll find a handful of nice little shops (Joy, Coast, Topshop, nice posh chocolate in Chocolat Chocolat) and some pretty good restaurants - albeit a bit chainy - Strada, Carluccios, Starbucks, Patisserie Valerie. Right over the road from Russell Square station too. But it's in a shopping estate. Why? It's weird. Can't get past the weird. read more

Yes, this place is quite strange and pretty small as shopping centres go, but a pleasant experience if you want to escape the crowds. There are the upmarket stores Hobbs, LK Bennett, French Connection and Coast, as well as a branch of New Look and one or two others. If your office is nearby it's also a good place for lunch. Better to visit on a sunny day when you can sit outside one of the cafes. We went midweek. I imagine the place gets much busier at the week end as it is in the middle of a housing estate. The Brunswick is a Grade II listed building dating back to the 1960s, turned into low-income public housing and recently regenerated to incorporate shops, homes and leisure facilities in a miniature city. Located opposite Russell Square Underground Station this Grade-II listed building is both adored and abhorred by those who live or work nearby. The site was redeveloped in 2006 at a cost of £22 million and now houses around 25 shops, 10 restraints and cafes and a cinema in addition to 560 flats. The centre serves both as an amenity for the community but also draws in crowds from around London. Almost all the shops in the open-air centre are chain stores such as French Connection and Joy but the shopping environment is second to none especially in summer, the restraints and cafes giving a very relaxed and leisurely shopping environment. The Renoir cinema is a fantastic independent cinema showing edgy and lesser known films, in my opinion this is one of the best cinemas in London with great décor, good films and friendly service. It should also be noted that the site houses a large Waitrose supermarket, which is nothing special, though is one of the largest in the centre of London. Overall a great shopping centre though perhaps slightly small. read more

The Brunswick Centre is really a unique place. It is both relaxing and vibrant, and it has a great atmosphere similar to that of a shopping piazza in a lively foreign city. The architecture is very striking and light, further adding to the unique quality of the Brunswick Centre. Prince Charles may not have liked it years ago, but he can certainly eat his words now... There is a decent range of shops and restaurants to visit, not to mention the Waitrose supermarket, which is the largest Waitrose in central London. The centre is very accessible for wheelchairs. It is on raised ground, yet there is ramp access up to it. The rest of the centre has flat floors so all the shops and restaurants are accessible too. There are benches located around the middle of the centre, and it's lovely to sit there on a sunny day with a drink and watch the world go by. At Christmas time the centre is decorated and lit beautifully. read more

It was such an amazing change to the neighbourhood when the Brunswick went from being a council estate with second-hand and cheep stores in the middle. It was somewhere you avoided at night walking home... trust me. Now that the Brunswick has been redone, this is a lovely place to live and shop. There is the Waitrose of course, fashion stores, a Zavvi, health food stores, restaurants. Everything! This centre has completely evolved an it is wonderful. They have events and performances here which are entertaining for the whole family. It is extremely busy during lunch hour with benches for people to relax on in the court yard. It is amazing what a small group of shops can do for the atmosphere of an entire neighbourhood! read more

I went to The Brunswick quite a few times last year and just visited again today, and it hasn't changed, which is a good thing! Its a nice little shopping centre anchored by a Waitrose and has some decent places to grab a bite, as well as to shop if you're not looking to go to a high street or to Oxford Street. I'm not sure what the schedule is for the outdoor food area, but it seems at least on Saturdays, lots of food stalls open up, serving up anything from paella to cupcakes. I unfortunately have only tried the cupcake stall that set up there last year and it was okay (I have high cupcake standards, however). If you're at a loss of something to do one day, it would never hurt to take a look at what The Brunswick has to offer :) read more

I used to live close by and when your options are between either King's Cross or Russell Square, I was happy to find the Brunswick shopping center. It is mostly outdoor, the shops surrounding the inner yard. Besides the basic Starbucks and Boots you can find a lovely independent cinema, chocolate boutique and nice places for dining. The place is hidden from the cars and the tourists, very relaxed and recently renovated. read more

Every saturday this place has a farmers market which is absolutely fantastic. Proper sausages, fancy crisps, italian food, real ice cream, french pastry, soup, and if you get sick of that there's Waitrose, the french chocolate shop, the pie and mash cafe, yo sushi, carluccio's, strada, giraffe, gourmet burger, fcuk, office, benetton, hob and hobbs, and the Renoir cinema. And best of all there's Skoob books, for all your second hand book shopping needs. They have a piano if you need to. Oh and on friday nights there's something called salsa classes for would be dancers. My advice would be to get some high quality beer from waitrose, a takeaway pie from the square pie place and head to russell square for a picnic. read more

Have visited most of the shops in this complex and personally have found the customer service in Joy to be above and beyond. I was browsing and had some clothes I wanted to try on. i live in the brunswick, i grew up here, i love the fact that the demographics in the area has flipped since the refurbishment. used to be working class and asian now a waitrose turns up and all the posh lot come and start talking about the architecture and how cool the building is. funny they were no where to be seen when there was not a waitrose in the shopping complex. saying that apart from the annoying middle class trendy wannabes the generic boring shops are needed and are quite useful from time to time. very happy cause my flat is worth loads now thanks lemmings. read more
