The museum is actually predominantly a gallery (or at least seemed that way when I was there). Interested art work from local painters that have some sort of relevance to Canberra's past or present. One of the highlights for me was the collection of Sidney Nolan's Ned Kelly paintings. Entry is free, so there's no real reason to not pop in and have a quick look around if you feel like escaping in some art.

We can always find parking, the rotating selection of exhibits never fails to fascinate, and the cafe is excellent for an afternoon caffeine boost. Make sure you check out the yearly photography exhibit and look for copies of last year's catalog at a discount price in the gift shop. Not to mention, the gallery is just the right size to pass an hour or two without feeling overwhelmed, and you can always head to the National Museum or the High Court next door.

Mostly paintings, including a few Archbald winners and some video and photography make up most of the exhibitions. Also they have regular temporary shows which are always good. One room is early works including Captain Cook and the early explorers, then rooms of Victorian eminent persons up to our most recent icons. Afterwards visit the cafe and shop which are both excellent and admire the good modern architecture of the gallery.

Best 4 day car show in Australia hands down if not the world :)!!…read more My first summernats ever was 19th & kept it consistent till the 22nd, arrived on the thursday when it started & left on the monday, always went down to Canberra with 3 mates 4 including me & would usually cost us about $600 for the hotel, tickets, food/drink & the night life :D!! Suprisingly had a break till the 29th & attended the 30th which has just passed :)!! Every day is jam packed with burnouts, happy laps around the grounds with heaps of Revs & Skids, with a side of dyno, show & shine, bass off. Plenty Booze aswell like good ol VB's & other varieties of beer & my personal favourite cocktail slurpees at $10 a pop ... they were definately stronger back in and around the 19th year & they still taste good but feel a little bit weaker might just be me haha!! If you want a good chance of getting your favorite shirt, size & colour its best to go on the first few days cause by the third the majority is sold out & you got to just get whats left!! 2 day pass is about the same price as a 4 day pass so if your arriving on the 2nd day your better off getting the season pass cause it always decent enough to pop in on any of the days in the arvo to evening except for sunday :)! Also to avoid the queues its best of buying your tickets to the days you want to go online :)!! You still have to line up but the Queue is always much less than half of the normal ticket line :)!! Once again this is an Amazing car show & always leaves you with fantastic memories whether you go down for the day or stay a night or 2 or stay for the whole event :)!!

I guess I can only comment on my covid experience but all in all was a bit disappointed…read more Not really the museums fault but covid meant most exhibitions were closed and where it is opened you need to prebook to get in. Well we didn't book. We got there and we couldn't get in any exhibition so basically got nothing to do. Aside from the exhibitions, there's surprisingly little things to see. Lovely environment and a nice big car park though.

For starters, it is FREE. Amazing. Great cafe and gift shop too. There is a theatre to watch the history of Australia, lots of multi-media exhibits to learn about Australia as well. Love the autobiographical section, with its domed audio recordings. They also featured the Azaria Chamberlain story ("a dingo ate my baby"). Outside, there is a water feature, although I don't think you can wade in it. Also beautiful grounds and fantastic Aboriginal displays. Next time I'm in Canberra, will probably stop in again!

Fantastic lunch at a charming winery overlooking Lake George…read more I can't even begin to express how excited I was to move to a city with so many wineries and vineyards close by! It's been something I've wanted as a local feature since visiting family in the Finger Lakes of New York State a few years ago. And Lerida didn't disappoint! We spent a chilly spring day enjoying a charcuterie plate and couple of glasses of wine, it was our first family meal out in almost two years! (Not that we haven't eaten out, just doing a lot of takeaways to keep the COVID out!) To set expectations, if you're like me, a certain vision comes to mind when you think of an "estate." French Chateau-like, to be exact, especially if like me your wine education largely lies in the "old world" class of wines. You approach the estate from a sharp turn-off on Federal Highway, and drive up a narrow-ish dirt track and approach a humble-looking building that at first can't possibly be a tasting room. A short stroll through the vineyard takes you to the tasting room and restaurant, which, once inside, is actually quite welcoming. A bit industrial, with a heavy concrete aesthetic, but balanced by the large windows that overlook the vines outside. There's also an exceptionally charming barrel room with tables set amongst stacks of promising wine barrels. There's also a coffee bar and a separate tasting bar. They managed to comfortably accommodate a lot of features into what is otherwise a fairly small space. The lackluster bathroom, however, reminds you that you are actually just at a farm. They offer a small but well-curated food menu, of course with glasses or bottles on-offer to accompany. You can also do a separate tasting flight of, if I recall, 8 or so wines for $10 total. Nice deal! The one drawback is they don't serve the tasting flight with the food. Probably so the food doesn't negatively affect the taste of the wines, which is understandable. Seeking lunch and traveling with our young child, we skipped the tasting this time, and instead each enjoyed a delicious glass of Shiraz, for which Lerida is award-winning. It paired very nicely with a charcuterie plate that was heavy on the umami flavors with cured meats and lots of truffle influence! My son enjoyed his first-ever hot chocolate and was very, very pleased. Not their fault of course, but for awareness, flies were a bit troublesome even on a cool and cloudy spring day. Probably much worse when warm and sunny, so be warned! But do stop in here and enjoy!

The tasting is free and staff here are well prepared, they provide you with an enjoyable experience and you are sure to purchase some of their great wine. All of the wine we tried at Clonakilla was stunning. Known for their reds, we also thought the whites were quite exceptional. Their Reisling is quite sweet with oily mouth feel. The Chardonnay was one of our favourites, on the nose it is buttered toast and the flavour very nutty and toasty. Their Voigneir was quite floral and sweet. Their Hilltop shiraz was another favourite, floral with winter berries and certainly is great value. Their world renowned Shiraz Voigner is a delicious wine, complex sweet and savoury with a nice earthiness. The winery itself is also stunning. The space is large and has a lovely outlook on the vine clad hills. As you sit inside, you're surrounded by local stone, reclaimed timbers, wine barrels and a large central fireplace. It's homely, comfortable and a top place to add to your list.

The Pinot had a nice strawberry cherry fruit with cloves on the back end. Their Sauvignon blanc semillon was seamless with its 50/50 blend. But the 2018 Shiraz Viognier was a knockout - still tannic, but give ut 8 years. Also enjoyed the 2017 Syrah which is kept in the barrel 2 years. Can't wait to taste the 2018 vintage
