Or, you can sit inside at one of their tables or lounges by the fire, still with a great view. Shaw have a private tasting room and sell wine merchandise and to take home. Their tastings are free with a good mix of whites, red and also offer tastings of their premium wines which are very savoury. Their core range Shiras was the pick, it was very rich and fruit driven, plums and winter berries. This went down a treat with their charcuterie and cheese platter. There is also a rustic restaurant on side, called Olleyville, serving small, medium sized plates, shared meals and pizzas. We enjoyed our visit to Shaw and it is well worth a visit to this winery. One of the nicest outlooks and wineries.

The tasting is free and staff here are well prepared, they provide you with an enjoyable experience and you are sure to purchase some of their great wine. All of the wine we tried at Clonakilla was stunning. Known for their reds, we also thought the whites were quite exceptional. Their Reisling is quite sweet with oily mouth feel. The Chardonnay was one of our favourites, on the nose it is buttered toast and the flavour very nutty and toasty. Their Voigneir was quite floral and sweet. Their Hilltop shiraz was another favourite, floral with winter berries and certainly is great value. Their world renowned Shiraz Voigner is a delicious wine, complex sweet and savoury with a nice earthiness. The winery itself is also stunning. The space is large and has a lovely outlook on the vine clad hills. As you sit inside, you're surrounded by local stone, reclaimed timbers, wine barrels and a large central fireplace. It's homely, comfortable and a top place to add to your list.

The Pinot had a nice strawberry cherry fruit with cloves on the back end. Their Sauvignon blanc semillon was seamless with its 50/50 blend. But the 2018 Shiraz Viognier was a knockout - still tannic, but give ut 8 years. Also enjoyed the 2017 Syrah which is kept in the barrel 2 years. Can't wait to taste the 2018 vintage

They staff were super welcoming, passionate and knowledgeable about their wines. We enjoyed them presenting us their range and the tasting is also free. Known for its cool climate and aromatic wines and complex flavours. We started with the Riesling, which had citrus flavours and was light and floral. The sauvignon blanc was also quite enjoyable, also citric with hints of passionfruit. The pinot gris, this one with a rose appearance was an approachable wine, super easy drinking tasting of nectarines. The reds are earthy and peppery. The Pinot noir had strawberry flavours and was quite earthy. Their Syrah a dry, savoury red. The Malbec was light and fruity with a pleasant sour grape finish. The 2015 Syrah was most enjoyable, very savoury, smoky bacon and strawberry flavour, very unique. I bought a bottle of this to go.

Head into the cellar door and you'll find a bar to do tastings, a cafe and restaurant. But we recommend heading outdoors and having a wine after your tasting as the view is breathtaking! There's also a elevated decking right out on the vines with some amazing art and we think they've done a great job architecturally in setting this place up. The wine tasting is enjoyable, and we undertake this in our group whilst seated outside. The cost for a group of 5 or more is $5 for a tasting fee. The place is super busy the day we are there, so you are recommended to book ahead. In the tasting, we walk through the wines from white to red with the Mountain Ridge semillon, Mountain Ridge Pinot Gris, Mountain Ridge Rose, Mountain Ridge Sparkling Chamborcin, and finish with a Mountain Ridge Tawny Port, perfect to pair with dessert. We personally also love their macadamia liqueur which we tried at a local restaurant. The host let us also try a watermelon liqueur slushee, all the rage at the moment, and seemed to be popular with people at the winery. This was my favourite! It's an amazing place to visit if down in the south coast. We've already recommended this to plenty of people! It's also kid and dog friendly!
