The staff, the atmosphere, the coffee. :)…read more Milk is pretty local to me, I often walk past it doing our weekly shop, located on Victoria road between Lidl and Queen's Park station which is the perfect excuse to pop in for a wee coffee on our way home on a Sunday afternoon. I've never stayed for food, although it's definitely on my list! The menu sounds fab to get a nice wee lunch. I have however had numerous coffees and a few slices of cake and they're always lovely. A great flat white, and they're always served in cute little tea cups. I've never had the same one twice. I love the attitude of Milk and the girls who run it, it's a social enterprise to supporting Asylum seeking woman. What's better than great coffee for a great cause! They also run events with different charities and organisations, and get really involved in helping their local community. I'm really looking forward to starting a sewing club at Milk next month with The Real Junk Food Project and Learn to Sew Glasgow, a great example of their community work. The girls that work there are always incredibly friendly and welcoming, it's the sort of place you could loose an afternoon sitting by the window watching the world go by... :)

They took over this old shop quite a few years ago possibly the second biggest charity shop other than the Salvation Army. Inside they have quite a large selection of furniture, Bric a brac, shoes and jewellery. Not often that l ever see anywhere that sells records these days these guys had 100's of them must have been a recent donation. I quite often donate items to this shop they always have a quick turn around of items. Some items can be expensive to buy one of my negatives at this shop when l donate a lot of items and they pick it up you are not given a time when they will be there for collection so feel it's such a waste of a whole day.

This branch is a charity shop with some cracking merchandise on sale. The charity shop offers free uplift for any old items you may want to give away. Gorbals Recycles aims to prevent land fill by recycling people's old furniture, brick-a-brac etc. They sell really good quality items and clean everything brought into the shop. The volunteers steam clean and tag the garments in the back shop. The shop is although in the city centre is a bit hidden away. It's located at the bottom of Saltmarket near to the high court. It's not got a lot of passing trade hence why I thought I should Yelp this project. Gorbals recycles supports volunteers and unemployed trying to get back into work. It's an excellent project and deserves lots of support. The shop is in a lovely spot where Glasgow Green is just over the road, so if you're ever swinging by to Glasgow Green swing by Market on the Green.

Apparently the obtaining…read moreand renting of one is rather urgently required due to the lack of sun and size of her own garden. Given, she's yet to actually venture a visit to the nearest allotments - never mind investigation - I surmise this will probably not materialise. Nonetheless, I did some digging on her behalf. This meant some mother brownie points as well as a very handy review. Talk about multitasking! Anyway, these are the closest allotments to me, at a tiny three minute walk. They are cleverly tucked away just off of Old Castle Road, which can give the impression that you're actually not in the middle of Glasgow. That's always nice. One of my elderly neighbour's rents an allotment here - and has done for at least five years. Needless to say, he's continually been pleased with their services. The allotment's are a decent - and manageable - size with good earth and handy gardening facilities. There is also extremely limited trouble of disturbance due to the adequate security and vandalism deterrents. These include big metal padlocked gates (as you can see from one of the photos) and 'anti-climbing' paint. You know, the never drying paint. So youth's will be more concerned with staining their track suits than ruining some veg. Excellent reports on these allotments - so should you wish to go all Charlie Dimmock this place is ideal.

New to You is the third branch from the Gorbals Recycles Project. This is another charity shop…read morefocused more on furniture with a few books and toys thrown in. Ooh I forgot, they also have a sweetie counter, I just had to buy me some 10p mix ups. Yum! They had some cracking deals with wardrobes and sofas from £20. Not a lot of items stay there too long, while I was there, a chair was sold and the Gorbals Recycles luton truck turned up in which they were bringing in items as fast as they were taking out. Stock is replenished frequently due to the great bargains they have on offer. The shop is immaculately clean, you can tell it's well looked after. It's a warm and friendly place, equal to their partner shops in town and in the Gorbals. It's such a great project and everyone I've met on the project has been really helpful. Gorbals Recycles supports it's volunteers which you can tell and they also support unemployed trying to get back into work. They also try to prevent land fill through recycling many various items that people no longer want or need. New to You also has some of the bicycles from the Gorbals shop on sale, they said many have taken an interest since they put them on display. This shop is situated in a cracking location in Partick, on the Dumbarton Road line of great charity shops. It's also a hop, skip and a jump from Partick train/subway/bus station. There's also plenty of buses that pass by. It's an ideal spot so I would definitely check what stock they've got, whatever's in the window goes pretty quickly so I'd get in there quick.

Embarrassingly this was the first time I've given blood in a couple of years. Since moving to…read moreGlasgow last year I've been meaning to do it. After seeing on Facebook that they were running low on my blood type (a good thing to keep an eye on) I thought I'd look up when they were open. Turns out you can make an appointment after work on Wednesday and Thursday. They are open until 7 these nights, which is great! No excuse for 9-5 people ;) All the members of staff were brilliant, I go there at 6.05 and had left by 6.50. It probably would have been quicker, but because it had been over two years I had to see a senior consultant. The lady giving out juice and bicutes afterwards was lovely, and really made sure you were feeling fine before letting you leave. All in all this place is a great resource, well run and spotlessly clean. It's in such a convenient location if you're in town as well. I need to make an effort to give blood more often!

Any excuse to visit Nelson Mandela place is welcome. I am so unbelievably proud that the city I…read morecall home renamed the place where the South African Consulate was located in 1986. South Africa was still apartheid and Nelson Mandela was still imprisoned. So any excuse to visit is welcome even if it involves giving up some of my blood. The centre is located in a beautiful building and is as you would expect spotlessly clean. All the staff here are lovely and I can imagine that if you were in the least bit nervous would be amazingly good at talking you down and getting your blood. As far as I am concerned the absolute best bit about donating blood is that you are forced to have a snack and a drink before they let you leave! Obviously with me there has never been any need to use anymore force than "tea, coffee or juice?" and I'm always going to choose a tunnocks tea cake.

Upon requesting from her when she returned if there were any records for sale(I am a collector) her attitude was somewhat dismissive towards me, and quite sarcastic. I won't be visiting there again in a hurry.
