Ooh I forgot, they also have a sweetie counter, I just had to buy me some 10p mix ups. Yum! They had some cracking deals with wardrobes and sofas from £20. Not a lot of items stay there too long, while I was there, a chair was sold and the Gorbals Recycles luton truck turned up in which they were bringing in items as fast as they were taking out. Stock is replenished frequently due to the great bargains they have on offer. The shop is immaculately clean, you can tell it's well looked after. It's a warm and friendly place, equal to their partner shops in town and in the Gorbals. It's such a great project and everyone I've met on the project has been really helpful. Gorbals Recycles supports it's volunteers which you can tell and they also support unemployed trying to get back into work. They also try to prevent land fill through recycling many various items that people no longer want or need. New to You also has some of the bicycles from the Gorbals shop on sale, they said many have taken an interest since they put them on display. This shop is situated in a cracking location in Partick, on the Dumbarton Road line of great charity shops. It's also a hop, skip and a jump from Partick train/subway/bus station. There's also plenty of buses that pass by. It's an ideal spot so I would definitely check what stock they've got, whatever's in the window goes pretty quickly so I'd get in there quick.

For a charity shop, this branch of Maxie Richards appears to have acquired a grand collection of old, elegant furniture and household appliances. For that reason, some of the items are higher priced than you may have imagined, but the ornate mahogany cabinets are arguably timeless so the price is justified. This place made me want to time travel back to the 1950s in all honesty. The pieces were absolutely gorgeous and a hideous, stapled together leather bound sofa was nowhere to be seen in here. Although there was a smattering of modern goods, the majority seemed to have been plucked out of another time entirely. With paintings lining the walls and crockery or old books lining the shelves, you feel as though you are visiting a homage to antiquarianism rather than a charity establishment. But if you are looking to recreate an elegant look in your home or business, there are plenty of rare and enduring wares to be had in here. Including an utterly gorgeous coffee table, complete with tiled surface, for 15 pounds! If I ever open up a retro clothes shop, I'll come back here for furniture.

The Maxie Richards Foundation have a slightly better quality of furniture than the fare that you're likely to find in the Sally Army store. They actually have pieces that could pass for vintage/antique rather than outdated/shabby. This is perhaps reflected by the fact that it isn't the cheapest of the charity furniture shops - but if you can afford it it's definitely worth the extra pennies. Like all shops of this sort, this place feels like a bit of a warehouse. The lady staffing when I was in there didn't bother to acknowledge me - but seeing as I was only in there for a browse this didn't bother me too much.

A community centre with a difference - The Annexe aims to promote healthy living amongst individuals and groups across the community. They have their own friendly cafe - known as the Sunflower Cafe, which serves healthy food at very healthy prices! The cafe often plays host to regular live music events - so it's worth checking out their listings. In addition to this, The Annexe runs a wide variety of events to help the community to get fit and healthy! This includes fitness classes such as Yoga, walking groups, weight support groups and diet and fitness advice. You'll also be able to attend a complimentary therapies taster session! As well as these healthy living oportunities, The Annexe also acts as a general community centre and plays host to a number of evening classes. You'll also be able to find out about events in the community. Of course, there are also many volunteering opportunities!

Officially Europe's first radio station for blind and partially sighted listeners - Insight Radio is part of RNIB. Now, first things first - I am not blind or partially sighted. This, however, does not mean that I can't sppreciate Insight Radio! On many a late night when I'm making my way home and Radio 1 has gone past the stage where it's entertaining and every other station seems to be playing nothing but adverts - I often stumble across Insight Radio. Now, I don't normally realise that I've done this. I'm normally happily listening away to Coldplay or the like when the song ends and I realise where it is that I've stumbled upon. Insight Radio offers talking books, blind movie reviews, RNIB job listings and information for blind and partially sighted people as well as good music. They have very good relationships with local charities, and can often be found mentioning charity fundraising events taking place. They also maintain a very up to date and linked in twitter page - which you'll find links to on their website.

Most of the clothing in here would suit older generations, with high quality V neck knits and a copious amount of lilac skirts and shirts! All were well priced and kept in really good condition - an easy outfit option for fancy parties! There was also an amiable selection of clothes for gents, including a large supply of jackets. The volunteers were hard at work keeping this place clean and orderly when I entered, and were notably in high spirits which is always nice on a rainy day! They were hard at work on an Easter display - gotta love a charity shop with seasonal themes. They had broken out the Easter bunnies from the back for this special occasion, and I must admit I did giggle when I heard one of the ladies comment on how one of the toys was "nice, but glaikit lookin'". What a greatly underappreciated Scots word, and to great comic effect - for those of you not from these parts it means you look a bit morose and downtrodden. Seeing people happy in their job is a rarity these days and it was pleasant to see these ladies getting into the Spring spirit of things.

Shelter me be a good charity but their charity shops are the most disorganised and old fashioned…read morethat I've never seen. Clothing rails are so large and take up so much space that any more than six customers you would find it a struggle to manoeuvre around the shop. Notes Shelter is a charity for housing and the homeless in their charity shops they mostly sell clothing and a small selection of bric a brac, beware of any board games as the ones that I've bought in the past have been incomplete, games are sealed in store and there is no way of checking if they are complete. Shelter charity do other fundraising by cold calling, visiting your home uninvited and hound you in the streets constantly to sign up to a direct debit for £12 or more per month. I used to give quite regular to charity's and even had a few direct debit donations but due to several charity's cold calling by phone and harassing me in the street l find that l donate less due to this.

In fact, it's actually a nice shopping experience, which is something that sadly can't be said for a large selection of shops of this sort. It's a lot bigger and roomier than your average charity shop - and they actually have a really decent selection of clothes. Like all charity shops, they don't make it hugely easy for you to find the good bits and pieces, but a bit of a rummage will undoubtedly unearth something quite nice. Last time I was in here I spotted a Ralph Lauren wool jumper for £6.99. I suggest you get in on the action.

Clothing and accessories seem to be its strongest area - perhaps people associate this charity shop over the others as an apparel donation point for all the clothes it sells. The staff certainly do well in laying them out - while the volunteers don't at any point paint it as a vintage stop off, the staff seem to calmly get on with sorting their stock into appropriate areas. It's fun raiding the rails and coming out with a designer brand. There's scores of high quality knitted jumpers and designers for guys such as Jaeger to keep everyone happy. The stock is all priced reasonably considering the area it's situated in, and it's difficult to come out of here empty handed!

It's all for a good cause though: I say carry on! This branch of the charity branch is small and tastefully stocked. Easter fever seems to be gripping this area of Glasgow as the staff in here were frantically blowing balloons up for easter! So I felt as though I was disrupting the carnival atmosphere by just having a browse for a new jacket. I know they were busy but I get the impression this is a close knit area since the staff weren't the most accomodating. They seemed bubbly enough but I felt like a bit of an intruder. It's a generalisation but I didn't feel local enough - ludicrous since I stay a bit down the road and used to frequent this area from time to time. Saying that, you don't visit charity shops for the chat - it's bargain time - and there's a large selection of clothes in here. They also appeared to have the largest collection of jackets I've ever seen - just goes to show Glasgow's weather is reflected in what ends up in second hand stores. There was a book section but due to the size of the shop it wasn't easily reached, and when a local eyeballed me enroute to the books and created a blockade in the small corridor, I fled the awkward situation. A decent enough store but I felt a bit like I was trespassing!

I've been in the…read moreshop on numerous occasions and found it to be cluttered with junk, too much on the rails and the quality of goods on the rails shabby and overpriced some of the clothes have "pulls/snags or catches" on them for e.g. a coat needing cleaned was covered in snags and was priced at £12.00 I feel the whole shop needs revamped and cleaned because its been like that for years. When in the shop the staff always appear to be having extremely long conversations with others.I'd love to gut it.
