A new food menu lots of choice but of what I saw not particularly well made let alone presented. This is a very child friendly establishment with a good variety of food for hchildren and child centred drinks. On the drinks front there seems to be a greatly reduced choice of loose leaf teas and bean coffees. The expresso range doesn't seem to be as good as under the previous management. On the whole the place seems a little bit bare. Previously they had interesting pictures and other bits and pieces, now the shelves and walls are bare. Lots of bits left over from the previous owners and the bits that have changed seem cheaply done. Hopefully given time they can improve and not just rest on their reputation from the previous owners.

Saturdays are really busy so was glad I decided last minute to book a table. The menu is filled with sandwiches, bagels, paninis etc and all come with soup for £5.95 which is a bargain when you see the portions. However the most popular order seemed to be the high tea for two, which at £5 per person is amazing! The atmosphere is lovely, with a mix of couple, familes and quite a few grannies being treated to tea and cakes by their grandkids. The decor is nothing fancy, but the setting and welcoming staff easily makes up for it There is fabulous selection of Suki teas and homemade baking. Soups of the day this week were tomato with basil and potato and leek. Last wee I tried the curried butternut squash which was amazing! The setting is lovely and the food is well worth the 15min drive from Dennistoun. There is a garden centre and lovely views onto the loch so you could easily spend a few hours over a coffee, chatting and escaping city life. The warmth of the welcome, the service, the views and the quality of the food is just superb. The Boathouse is just minutes away from the ferry and has a perfect position facing over a small bay with incredible views back over to the peninsula. We arrived mid afternoon and had some ice cold Peroni out on the decking overlooking the white sand beach and turquoise water. We were camping at The Boathouse - which I can highly recommend. There's quite a few pitches doted around and it's an incredibly relaxed atmosphere. Campers mingle with locals who mingle with those who have just come over for the day to eat the amazing seafood on offer. The showers and washrooms are all clean and new, with piping hot water from very early in the morning. There are washing/drying facilities and it's a brilliant half way between wild camping and a formal site - just without any fuss. Everything we needed was here and nothing was too much trouble from anyone we spoke with. If you are planning on visiting, you need to book for dinner as the place was full. Luckily we already had. We started with some oysters and then quickly ordered some more. They were cold, creamy, soft and absolutely delicious. Perfect start. After much deliberation we opted for a lobster mac 'n' cheese to start and the 'Gigha plate'. We has seen the live lobsters being brought in only an hour before and a considerable amount of one was inside the mac 'n cheese. There is no scrimping on the good stuff here. The Gigha plate consisted of deep fried halibut, quails eggs, salmon, smoked halibut, Gigha bread, oyster and the star of the show - the chef's own beetroot smoked halibut. I'd waited a long time to eat the halibut here and the beetroot smoke was just superb. Main course was the monkfish and fish curry and the pan fried halibut. Everything is cooked to perfection and the chefs inventive use of Gighas own produce of potatoes, to beetroot to fish makes it a locally sourced, excellently executed dining experience. We just amount managed to cram in a deliciously light sponge of sticky toffee pudding and peanut butter icecream - and the wonderful pecan tart with red grape ice-cream. Perfect to end to a great meal. With around 30 whiskeys to choose from I went for a Talisker to round the meal off and take a coffee outside and admire the view until bed. Wherever you are, get your map out, work out how to get there and go eat some fish and check out that view. It's worth every mile.

But I managed to get a small table in a corner of the window and ordered a Loch Fyne smoked salmon and scrambled egg brunch and an Americano (hey, it had been a long time since breakfast!). The scrambled eggs arrived in a wee bowl, which I thought was rather cute although I wasted no time in dumping them onto the plate beside the huge portion of salmon. The two large slices of crusty wholemeal bread were very generously sized too. Great food, friendly service and some delicious-looking cakes that I'm glad I didn't notice until I went to pay my bill. I had coffee here today and it was lovely a frothy latte in a tall glass. The Mocha Italian blend is served here and they offer to grind beans for you to take home. Many nice varieties of tea as well, plus luxury hot chocolate with marshmallows, cream and flake (wow!), and iced coffee. There are shelves on the left as you go inside selling various goodies, including dried pasta, biscuits, chilli jams, chutneys and other preserves. In the cafe you can have panini, sandwiches, tortilla wraps, salads, homemade pate, homemade soup of the day, bagels with imaginative fillings (including smoked salmon or banana and cinnamon); you'll find extra meals or snacks on the blackboard at the back of the cafe. Apparently, all produce is locally sourced wherever possible. There are milk shakes available and other soft drinks. There are shelves containing magazines and newspapers, which are free to read, on the left of the counter. I think the tables could be a bit nicer or, if not, then tablecloths would improve them, and the wooden floor is in dire need of a coat of paint as the black paint has mostly worn off and looks very scruffy. The dessert menu is to die for, freshly baked cakes, millionaires shortbread, rocky road, a different selection each time I've been in but there are the staples including carrot cake. There are also chairs and small tables, and wooden picnic tables, outside for the warmer days. The teas and Illy Italian coffees are lovely and there's a selection of fresh cakes, or you could have a sandwich, panini or even a burger. There's a take-away menu as well and the prices are very reasonable. The service is very quick and friendly. My husband and I had a lovely chat with the young lady who was working in there today and she gave us some information about some of the walks in the immediate area. It's right next to paths through the woodland and past farms, and is a great place to stop off for a snack (as we did today)! There's a small car park right outside if you've arrived by car.
