The motel and little cabins are arranged around a central field that's like a private park, with a playground and fire pits, and all of this is on a cliff above the St. Laurence Seaway, so the view is stunning. We took one of the cottages; it was freshly remodeled, immaculate, and had wonderful windows and a front porch with chairs and a table. Families staying there could sit near the playground while the kids ran and played contentedly. People made a fire (free firewood) and sat and chatted until a little after dark. The woman at the desk is completely bilingual, knowledgeable, warm and personable. She recommended a perfect seafood restaurant on the water for a casual dinner. The night was quiet, and in the morning, watching the sun rise over the water while we drank coffee was peaceful and lovely.

We were quickly checked in and went to our room, which in this case was directly on the hill with a full and uninterrupted view. Even in the grey weather we could see across the huge breadth of the river, 1.5 miles wide here!!! Magnifique! We had brought some cheese, bread and pate with us, and some wine, so we did not feel like eating in the restaurant. We had food, wine and a room with a view. Romantique! The beds were incredibly comfortable and after reading and browsing online, we soon fell asleep, with the window open to the cool river air. The next morning, eager to get going, we decided to skip the hotel buffet, reasonably priced. In retrospect, we should have tried it, as it looked quite good and was in a nice room. But we had breakfast down the road instead. News item: Apparently they have whale watching tours from here, as these creatures swim in the 170 miles upstream from the ocean. There's a choice of accommodations (e.g. rooms, chalets & yurts) We got a very nicely furnished suite with a lot of amenities. Only downside was that there were a lot of flies (this was in early fall; we got a fly swatter from reception) WiFi did not work in the suite but elsewhere it was ok You can do self-checkin 24 hours via a lockbox, which is nice (for almost all lodging in the area, you must arrive by 8 or 9pm at the latest)
