We have gone to Canova a few times and we always enjoy it. There are public bathrooms when you first drive up. Then they have outside showers you can use if you want to wash off the sea water or sand when you are leaving the beach. Then after you crossover the stair-bridge, you enter the beach. It's a long strip that you can walk with your dogs. Most people keep their dogs on a leash, but be warned, there are many that are not on a leash. I like this beach, because I can bring my dog, my kids swim in the water and there are shells for me to collect. Something for everyone. The waves are medium strength... they are a little big for small kids or weak swimmers, but still small enough for my teens to enjoy. We will definitely be back!! read more

We were pleasantly surprised by this dog beach and only an hour or so from Orlando, so many dogs and they all seem to be well behaved, except for one:) We enjoyed it so much that we went two weekends in a row. I love this dog friendly beach! There's free parking and the beach is right there from your car! It's a chill beach and everyone's friendly and nice. The dogs stay with their owners. Yeah a lot are off leash which apparently isn't allowed but every dog I saw was trained and taken care of! There wasn't seaweed or rocks or anything that hurts your feet at this beach! In full disclosure, I live on the ocean, so I allow my dogs to run on the beach all the time in the early morning or after work when the sand is practically deserted. They get plenty of beach time. I also travel with my dogs as they are loved as much as and on some days , more than my two legged children and I often search for places for them to run around. When we drove from the East Coast to San Diego, the first thing we did was check out some of the amazing dog beaches I had heard about and they did not disappoint. This beach is nothing like that. A very tiny parking lot at a major intersection and one of the few county beaches in the area which means free parking so the parking lot was a nightmare. They are renovating the facilities which meant hot, smelly, porta potties. Instead of the vast open spaces I was expecting after visiting other dog beaches. There's a tiny cramped area with people and pets competing for the very little sand space. Unlike many other dog beaches, I've visited, your dog must stay on leash. If I was disappointed, I could only imagine how much my dog must have been disappointed. read more

I'm a local, a very experienced dog trainer and fully supportive of controlled access to certain sections of beaches for dogs and owners. What I don't support are owners that are not in full control of their animals and think they are exempt from the boundaries. They get away with this because the county doesn't enforce the rules. This is hands down the best dog beach that I've been too and I've lived in Florida my entire life. The beach itself is super clean and all the dog owners were responsible picking up after their dogs. That's huge because often times people think they're too cool and the reality is we all want to have a good time without stepping in poop. The parking lot is a little small, so you may have to walk over from the other lot but once you're there there's two shower areas -- one with a hose for your dog and a small covered area. After you step up a small flight of stairs the beach is right there! It's so helpful especially when you have your dog in a leash in one hand and you're hauling all your items in another. The water itself is super clean, and again everyone was super friendly. The only reason I am giving it a 4 out of 5 is because there's always that one person who thinks they don't have to follow the rules and had their dog off a leash (even those there's signs everywhere to keep your dog leashed) I will say those dogs who were off the leash were very obedient and didn't cause any issues but we did travel with a baby and didn't want any issues. We can wait to go out there again! read more

Drove over to satellite beach to check out a property and brought our dog to try out this beach. Wow we loved it!! The beach was clean and not overpopulated with dogs. The water here is shallow enough that dogs can run and jump in the water without being tackled by waves! Lots of parking and also 2 different areas to hose off sandy dogs after playing. I started coming here when the public facilities in nearby Paradise beach started renovations. First off the beach is a dog lovers paradise and it is so nice to see our four legged friends frolicking on the beach and in the water. For some reason this beach has many more people smoking and playing loud music than Paradise. Although not aggressive unleashed dogs have run into me while I was sleeping or just relaxing with my eyes closed. Not the worst thing but completely avoidable if people leashed their pets. read more

We go here every year especially in the summer because of the cooler water compared to Gulf Coast side. It's a dog friendly beach in the Melbourne area. They also have showers, bathroom, & free parking which we love. Most dogs are leashed, but some are not. It's nice that the beaches are wider here compared to like Ft. De Soto which is a dog friendly beach in St. Pete Beach on the other side of Florida. There's lots of space for every one to spread out here. It's not one of the nicer beaches to me though because the restrooms do look pretty old and the showers aren't the best. Still good to have it. This last time we didn't realize the bathroom closes at dusk. So it was closed by the time we got to it. Friendly's restaurant, Walmart, & Winn Dixie is across the street so we headed that way for the rest room. We will continue to go here since it's dog friendly. It's fun to visit the area. There are still dog friendly beaches we prefer. read more

Miles of dog beach! Lots of room to run and play with your fur babies! Soooo much fun to spend the mornings playing in the waves and letting your dog wear themselves out! Family friendly, clean. Please keep your dogs on a leash, we saw many without and if they have zero recall they need to be leashed. I believe leash laws apply here. Bring plenty of fresh water and clean up after your dog- which it appears most people do as we only saw a couple places that no one bothered to clean up. No fee to get onto the beach. A dog wash station, shower for humans, and restrooms as well as plenty of parking. There is even a ramp down to the beach for accessibility! read more

As far as dog beaches girl, this is the best it gets. At this beach you can expect to find public restrooms (no dogs allowed), outdoor showers, a shaded rest/picnic area, dog waste bags and receptacles, and a glorified bathing station (basically just a hose on some concrete) for your canine friends. I can't be sure but I think I Saul drinking fountains as well. All dogs are supposed to be leased at this park butts I would say at least one out of 10 dogs are unleashed every time I'm there. That said, if you have any small dogs, I would recommend to always keep a close eye on them and keep them at least in case of a dog fight. Occasionally, people in the public forget or are too lazy to pick up after their dogs. Beware of this so you don't step in it on the beach. Also, this beach is restricted to about 100-200 yards of beach. There are signs designed to keep you and your furry companions on the dog beach (and no where else). Parking can be a nightmare on the weekends depending on the time of day, the weather and the time of the year. Keep that in mind. For the most part, I would definitely recommend this beach for dog owners. If you don't have a dog, maybe look into a different beach (though there aren't many beaches in the area that have showers and bathrooms). read more

Parking is free and easy but can get full. I went at 2pm on a Thursday and it was busy (but I found parking). A very nice beach park with 3 entrances and amenities This is one of the many beach parks located along A1A. It happens to be located directly at the intersection of A1A and the East end of Eau Gallie Blvd. There is a light at this intersection so it is easy to get to, and depart from, this particular park. There is a parking lot with about 50 spaces for cars. There is a single building housing the restrooms right off the parking lot. To the south of the restrooms is a grassy area and a beach entrance. This is a dog-friendly park so this particular area is a good part for taking your furry friends both before and after their beach visit. To the north of the building is 2 more beach entrances. All are wooden walkways. The 2 on the north end are very pretty because the plants form a tunnel that you walk through to get to the beach. The beach here is very nice with a gentle slope about 60 feet to the water. Two of the walkways have stairs down to the beach and the other walkway is a ramp affair. They have held an Easter sunrise service from this location for several years and sometimes there is a food truck operating from the parking lot. Sure it may not be the biggest beach but it's plenty big enough all the canines running around with their masters. They also have a wash area so you can wash the dogs off from the saltwater and sand. Before getting onto the beach there is a poop bag station with an ample supply of bags if needed. So everything you could want or need in a dog park is there. Nice beach, but please do NOT plan to bring your small or shy dog to this beach. In general, people do not leash their dogs, and twice now, my sweet little chihuahua has been chased, practically hanging himself on his leash, by a giant dog whose owners had their dogs off leash and could not call them back to stop chasing my dog. Two separate dogs. Two separate times. In one case, the owner was not even watching. Everyone thinks their dog is friendly. But dogs are dogs. They can snap at any moment. Very sad, but this beach is NOT a good place to bring small dogs. I have learned my lesson. Too dangerous. Not fair because people should follow the rules! All dogs should be allowed to walk on the beach safely. We will just watch from the walkway from now on. read more

Pretty good. Surprised that in all of Brevard County this is the ONLY dog beach. I could be wrong on that but looking this seems to be the one spot. Shame with all this coastline. Dog areas but none with the ocean. Didn't expect California but it's a bit of a shame. Still it's nice one sliver of beach is set aside for dogs and their owners. You have a shower station and bathrooms for humans. Water for the dogs. Kind of a muddy area but changes can easily be made. Section of beach clearly marked. "Warning you have left the dog friendly area!" No bushes but open sand and water. Lot of broken shells and I guess corral further out. I didn't have any issues with Ranger but a lot of people have scratched or cut themselves. Not much shade unfortunately. If you get closer towards the Hilton hotel towers you can get some depending on the time of day. Free parking. Heard it can get fairly full but the times I went it was a piece of cake. Not any obstacles or specific dog centric items on this beach. Probably better taking Fido up the street across from Patrick Air Force base. Not a dog specific beach but rarely patrolled. Have a personal issue with my dog being on leash at a "dog park." Want them running and jumping. Swimming and learning. Didn't feel comfortable with my dog swimming where a leash could potentially wrap around his legs. He listens off leash but I know not every dog owner is comfortable with that. Few others had their dogs off leash and no arguments amongst us or the furry friends. Will return but I think Brevard can do better. I am grateful for this park. read more

Love love love this beach! I took my two dogs here about 5 times over the course of my 3 day vacation. We went home for lunch and came back lol it's a small stretch of beach but it's clean and most of the dogs are well behaved. The owners always picked up after their dogs from what I saw. It was packed on Sunday night but otherwise it wasn't too bad. My dogs had a blast digging in the sand and splashing in the waves. I only wish we had a beach like this in Miami! Oh, I took the advice of another reviewer and went to Coaster's Pub across the street and it was awesome! Dog friendly and great food, check it out! read more

Dog beach by day! It's pretty cool! You can take your puppy here and let him meet other dogs. Most of the dog's are very friendly or have overprotective owners. I found it really fun for me to carry my dog put into the water, once it got nice and deep I would push him into the waves. Trying to teach him how to surf. I have a good feeling that I enjoyed the doggie surfing lesson alot more then my poor pup did. The beach itself was clean everyone is picking up their own dogs poop and hopefully their own as well. :) One thing I hated about this beach was all the rocks. As soon as you walk out into the water the entire ocean floor is all slippery rocks. If you plan on going into the water make sure you wear water shoes or old seekers. read more

Very cool place. It's nice to see a town show some progression and consider using a part of our natural resource to share with our canine friends. Took my dog here today and was pleasantly surprised by the location. It's not perfect (it's not California ( : ) but it's a good start. My dog had a good time here and seemed to enjoy herself except for being a little intimidated by the surf. It was pretty big today. Unfortunately the fresh water was shut off for the dog washing hose, and the bathrooms as well. I'm guessing (hoping) that's only temporary. Yeah, it's a short stretch of beach and you have to keep your dog on-leash, but it beats a blank. It's the first salt water beach dog park I know of within reasonable driving distance of the Orlando area. New Smyrna's park is nice, but it's not on the beach side. I recommend it, and would have given it a five if the dog washing facilities were operational and I could have let her off leash the whole time ; ) read more

I loved coming here with my pup. She loves the beach but it's hard to find a dog-friendly beach. Even just this little bit of beach was a great! I'm currently living in the DC/Virginia/Maryland region and am used to gravel or loose dirt small fenced in dog parks so this was a welcome change although I understand others may be looking for a larger stretch of beach. All the other dog owners we met were super friendly and they must have been cleaning up after their dogs because I didn't see any poo bags or random poop around on the beach which is always nice. What a wonderful beach for doggies! It was my dog's first time being by the ocean, and she loved it! We were able to wash her afterwards, with a hose provided for this purpose. Now, here is a FANTASTIC dog park! The beach is quite puppy friendly, and so are all of the people who visit it! Our pup loves to play with other dogs and loves the water, and this is the perfect place to come. I've never seen huge waves here, so it's very safe for your dog, and there are always other people with their pets so it's a great place to socialize your dog - both with people and with other dogs!
