We try to go at least once a month and order the same every time - the lamb shish - every time we have visited the food has been delightful! The lamb is seasoned and marinated to perfection - succulent, juicy and the right amount of charred. It is served with a lightly dressed salad, pomegranate seeds and seasoned rice. Wash down with a lovely bottle of Ventoux and you cannot go wrong! There is a lovely cushioned outdoor section which is lovely during the summer. The restaurant is very busy so make sure you get a reservation! The bread and dips are a must - we always order extra! My personal recommendations: Starter Recommendation: Aubergine In Exotic Sauce (Imam Bayıldı) Delicately fried aubergine stuffed with mixed peppers, onions, pine nuts, garlic and tomato sauce. (£5.20) Main Recommendation: Lamb Shish Chargrilled marinated cubes of lamb served with rice and salad. (£12.95) Red Wine Recommendation: Ventoux, Delas, Rhone Valley, France (80% Grenache, 20% Syrah) Rounded and fruit- driven, with ripe red berries on the nose, and a plump, juicy palate. £5.25 /£19.95

I dined there with the owner's son not too long before it shut down. The food was great but it just wasn't bringing in the crowds, probably due to the dated décor. The new owner of the restaurant didn't just rename is Kouzina, they really have made it top class, they re-decorated and nowadays this restaurant can be seen packed throughout the day till closing time, as it also has a takeaway service. Me and my family dined at Kouzina recently. We had a meze so we could sample everything and the food was fantastic which cost us £18.75 each, a real bargain. The fish was fantastic, especially the king prawns. The Sheftalia (a traditional Greek Cypriot dish, a type of crépinette, a sausage without skin), were amazing and succulent. Every dish came on a lush rectangular plate, and the service was terrific. It looks great and everything tastes great. Being in Palmers Green, a very Greek area with plenty of competition, it has done brilliantly in its first year.

Beech 2-4 seater tables, dark stone floors and pink lights against a white mirrored wall to the left. It feels more like a bar than a typical Greek - which is quite refreshing. After reading previous reviews I was looking forward to the food. I went for the take out option. The portions were a lot smaller than expected - quite average. I've used a few local Greek take out services and was quite surprised at the lack of salad provided with their meals - lots of chips though. Unfortunately, the food was good but didn't entice me, and with the nearby competition, I'd probably drive a further 5 mins for an alternative option.

Nu Bar and Luxe (owned by Lock) is just down the road. Does this make it an undeserved destination for food? Should it only be for the TOWIE fans who want to be close to their idols? Do the locals actually go out there? Well, all of these questions will be answered shortly. Firstly it was a Friday in January when I went. It was quite early in the evening so the streets were quiet and the restaurant was just starting with its first wave of guests. The restaurant is clean and modern, with space for a live jazz set. We were sat by the bar. The staff were friendly and quite genuine, seemingly unaffected by the "fame" of the area. Looking at the menu, it had a very Mediterranean feel with influences from Greece, Turkey, Spain and other local warm places. I tend to prefer a more succinct concept, as it makes it easier to order from a menu with dishes complimenting each other naturally. We went for a mezze to share which had pitta bread, Greek sausage, calamari, tzatziki, hummus, taramasalata, grilled octopus, feta stuffed chilli peppers and grilled halloumi. My dining companion who is sensitive to nuts initially inquired about the nut content in this dish. Although our waitress said she had an allergy also, she seemed to be unclear about what actually had nuts and what didn't. Not the kind of leap of faith you want to take when ones throat can enlarge to the point of not breathing etc, but another waiter assured us that there wasn't any. Sigh of relief. For our main course I had mixed Seafood Souvlaki which was a skewer of char-grilled scallops, salmon and king prawns. It was very fresh, a good size portion but lacking a little in taste. I could have done with a bit more of the garlic, herb and lemon jus that it comes "drizzled" with. That said, the scallops in particular, were cooked perfectly delicate as some folk serve then over done so they become chewy. The risotto it came with however, was lush. The injection of lemon on it really worked. Sam Vanilla had Kleftico which was slow cooked lamb shank cooked traditionally with herbs, garlic, and wine with potatoes. She found her lamb to be a little bit on the fatty side with a ration on the meat. What meat there was did taste great and was suitably tender, sliding away from the bone on contact. I am intrigued to see what the other items on the menu are like as I refuse to believe that this mediocre experience is what The Olive Tree has to offer. For the prices (central London) and the simplicity style of the dishes on the menu, the food should have really blown one's mind. I will return as I hope that the next experience will prove that Loughton is good for more than reality stars and their drama.
