I wasn't expecting much of Dutch people trying to make Mexican food, but my expectations were not just unmet--they were violently trampled, set on fire, and then served to me in the form of the most offensively flavorless, bastardized excuse for nachos I've ever had. The food was horrible. The albondigas soup tasted like tomatoes paste, and it only had 1/2 of a meatball in it. The guacamole was more like a creamy paste flavored with avocado oil. Except tasty chicken wings the main Food as u can see on picture, looks just disgusting and unfortunately taste also bad. Yes that how plate was served ;) . Employes were really nice tho. So if u want just sit and drink while eating chicken wings then its a nice place read more

My absolute favorite restaurant in the city of Groningen!!! I have tried hard to find a mexican restaurant in Amsterdam (my current home town) which can even compare to Cantina, and sadly I haven't found it. So to be able to eat great food in a brilliant looking restaurant with many floors, a lovely roof top terrace, and a very nice quirky details on the walls and ceiling, I need to travel over 2 hours by train. And I have to say......Every now and then it is absolutely worth it. They also have killer cocktails!! read more

Lets get some things straight.. you're eating Mexican in Groningen; you're asking this far-off northern city to feature real Mexican goodness - it's a lot to ask! Me all I ask is for some reasonable semblance of Mexican food and I prefer vegetarian options. For those goals, Cantina is pretty good. Place had a lovely interior, dark and warm, food is plentiful though not cheap. Then again it seems nothing is cheap on one of the main squares of G-Town. I ate so much I hurt afterwards. Staff are lovely and attentive and that is saying a lot for the Netherlands, country of crappy service. If you want Mexican and you realize where you are geographically, you will enjoy this. read more

The ambience at Cantina is very warm and inviting, with great decorations, music and a lot of customers that gives it that place-to-eat feel. The waiting staff seemed very friendly and the food was absolutely delicious. The menu is large but it gives a great range of choices and quality is not comprised by the vastness of what is on offer. I had one of the 'combinación' dishes as my main course and the cost vs quality and quantity is well justified - though the prices are generally somewhat expensive if you decide to have all three courses, a drink or two during and a coffee. Service could be quicker but given the demand it is not surprising but is not too long and it was an enjoyable wait - enough time to chill - not enough to starve. For many this is perfect (you aren't pushed out of the door). Will return for sure. read more

This is by far my favorite restaurant ever. The food is delicious, the service is amazing and really kind and the decoration of the restaurant is great aswell. While the price isn't exactly the cheapest you will be stuffed after one of their (fairly big) meals. I conclude this review by saying that I thoroughly recommend this restaurant. read more
