My wife and I visited Vino e Vino in Florence after reading the excellent reviews and hoping to…read moresample some interesting Tuscan wines and perhaps find bottles that could be shipped home to us. Unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing.
After being seated, we waited about five minutes before a bearded staff member emerged and gave us a rather unenthusiastic welcome. When he asked what we wanted, we immediately felt that any sort of wine tasting experience or discussion about the wines was unlikely, so we simply ordered a glass each. My wife chose a white wine, and I ordered a light-bodied red. Both wines were enjoyable.
What was missing, however, was any level of hospitality or engagement. The staff member dropped off our wines without offering any explanation of what we were drinking, discussing the region, making recommendations, or asking about our preferences. For a wine bar, that lack of interaction was surprising. After serving us, he returned to his table, where he spent the rest of our visit eating and browsing on his phone or computer.
We had specifically chosen Vino e Vino based on its reviews, expecting a welcoming atmosphere and knowledgeable guidance through the wine selection. Instead, the experience felt indifferent and uninterested.
For comparison, we later visited Signorvino, where the staff was friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful in recommending several bottles for us to purchase. The difference in customer service was night and day.
The wines at Vino e Vino were good, but good wine alone is not enough when the hospitality is lacking. Based on our experience, I cannot understand how this establishment has earned such strong reviews.
