Wow! These sandwiches were impressive. We got there early to beat the line and a huge line formed behind us. Ordering was easy since the menu was outside and they had a worker handing out paper menus for those behind us. We got a table upstairs and enjoyed our yummy sandwiches! Highly recommend for a great sandwich stop!

First, don't be intimidated by the line - it is well-facilitated, moves fast, and just know all of it is WORTH IT. I didn't even think I was a fan of Italian sandwiches like this, no matter how viral I've seen these shops get. I assumed huge sandwiches on thick bread were great for photos but just a few bites. So I guess I can call this place life-changing because it completely turned these initial thoughts upside down. I finished my entire sandwich and continue to think about it even after leaving Florence. I opted for one on the specials list: "La Signoria" which included -Mortadella al tartufu (truffle mortadella) -Pecorino al tartufu (truffled pecorino cheese) -Rucola (rocket salad/arugula) My god...it all somehow went together perfectly. To me schicciata really is better than focaccia. Please try when and if you are in Florence. You'll most certainly not be disappointed. P.S. I LOVE their staff- regardless of their constant crowds and the slight chaos on the street due to the queue/line, everyone I encountered was so kind and seemed genuinely happy to welcome all of us visiting from across the world.

Consider yourself an early investor if you visit now! No lines during off hours (I went around 1:30pm on a weekday). The sandwiches challenge, if not surpass those of All'Antico Vinaio. The bread is thinner and crispier, housing delicious fillings, so if this sounds like your type of sando, definitely worth a stop! The old man (who I am assuming is the owner) is very patient and kind. I got the XYZ, filled with freshly-sliced meat.

My social media algorithm was really blessing me with the best spots in Florence. Florence is well known for its sandwiches and I'm so glad L' Girone de' Ghiotti was recommended. MUST visit when you're in Florence. Easily one of the best things I ate on my trip! It's a small, very busy shop with no seating, but don't let the line scare you away. It's 100% worth the wait. Honestly, with so many sandwich options, the line just gave me time to study the menu. You can build your own sandwich or choose from one of their masterpieces. The bread is unreal. La Rossa: prosciutto, brie, truffle cream, and arugula... what more is there to say? DELICIOUS. Very rich. My friend got the Suicida, but subbed the porchetta for salame... that was the moveeeee. That spicy sauce was next level. Grab your sandwich and go explore or sit by a statue & people-watch :)

This is the probably the best sandwich of my life! I had this spot bookmarked as literally one of the only spots I needed to try in Florence, and it did not disappoint. The line seemed long but honestly moved so fast - we were in within 15 minutes. I built my own sandwich with salami, truffle spread, arugula, and sundried tomatoes. This was all stuffed inside their perfectly crispy, fluffy, yet light bread. It was SO FREAKING GOOD. The seasoning and slight saltiness of the bread had such good flavor, and the salami was so much better than many of the other salamis I tried - great flavor and not too fatty. I liked how the arugula added some freshness, and their truffle spread is DELICIOUS. You must get that if anything! They have seating both downstairs and upstairs, and we found a table upstairs to devour our sandwiches. We all agreed this was one of the best spots we went to all throughout Italy - so I'd highly recommend!

We saw the line coming back from the Duomo one day and looked up this popular sandwich shop. We arrived at noon on a Tuesday and it took about 30 minutes to get to the front. We ordered the La Signoria special (mortadella) which is served in half and more than enough for two for lunch, plus aperol spritz at $5 each so total $23 usd. The foccacia was crispy yet soft, mortadella cut thin, with truffle pecorino cheese and arugula. We ended up eating it standing up a few blocks away but it didn't take long to devour. The hype is worth it for this Tuscan sandwich!

The best sandwiches you'll ever have

Waited over an hour in the pouring rain and would do all over again in a heartbeat. The sandwiches from I' Girone de' Ghiotti were just that good. At an incredible price, everything just has the perfect balance. From the freshness of the ingredients, to the crunch of the bread, to the fast paced environment with a line down the street. These are the types of atmospheres you fly across the Atlantic to experience when visiting Italy. Don't care how long the wait is, because it is worth it. Buckle up with your patience and have the best sandwich of your life.

Absolutely lives up to the hype. It was the only viral place we went to that had a long line. We got there right when it opened at 11:30 and probably waited about 25-30 mins. The La Cignala was so good. The boar salami was delicious and the focaccia bread was thin and crispy. I struggle to eat bread and this was really light. I'd probably add pesto next time just to give it a little more moisture. My friend had the La Batigol and loved it. The sweet onion cream was so good. Definitely worth the wait and lived up to the hype!

Long line but it was very orderly and moved quickly.

Tucked into an alley with a couple popular sandwich shops and pizza joints. Long line but moved quickly and orderly. Menus were handed out to everyone in line which was great. They have about 15 sandwich options, but you can create your own or mix and match the existing anyway you'd like. They also had another dozen special sandwiches. I went with La Batigola which was wild boar prosciutto, pecorino and and sweet onion spread, I also added sun-dried tomatoes. You can get small or large, of course I went with the larger size. They were served on a fresh baked focaccia bread. It came perfectly wrapped for eating while walking. Excellent spot worth checking out. I'll be stopping there again later this week.

I love this place. I've been to Florence several times. I've had the "other" guys several times, way too much bread. This is my go to. Bread is nice and crispy, almost feels like it's not there. The filling is fantastic. It's my favorite Sammie here in Florence. And they are cool with you adding things to the Sammie. Can't beat that service in Italy.

Girone was one place I really wanted to try in Florence. I had to wait in a really long line but it went by fairly quickly. I got the suicida sandwich and it was so good. They have so many sandwiches to choose from.

Beer made by the house (in a different location). It was good!

We skipped breakfast to go here one day. We got there around 11. There was already a small line. for those that don't eat pork, you can sub any meat for turkey. My wife had the #7 Golosa with turkey and I had a bite- it was insane! I had the #9 (see photo). The place is small and there are stairs that go up to a small seating area (only a couple tables seated 4). The sandwich was as good as it looks in the photos if not better. Super light but very satisfying. A must visit.. all the meats are hand carved on the spot. I would go back many times over. Buon appetito!

Absolutely the best sandwiches in Florence. This sandwich shop was a true highlight of my trip. My daughter and I came twice and I tried La Rosa and La Cimatori--both were outstanding. We were lucky not to encounter the usual long wait either time, and on our second visit, just before closing, Claud surprised us with a dessert, which was such a thoughtful and unforgettable gesture. Truly exceptional food and hospitality. Highly, highly recommended!

November 9, 2024 2:30PM…read more It does appear they have two stalls on the same street that you can order from. One side seemed to have more alcohol on display and the side I was on was more sandwich focused, but I'm pretty sure you can order the same things from both windows. Initially I was going to get the 21 - Fresh Sausage and Eggplant because I'm an eggplant lover... the lady at the counter was kind enough to let me know that the fresh sausage is actually rare, uncooked sausage and gave me a small piece to try. I was getting ready to get on a train that day and didn't want something that might not sit well with me, so I moved on to number 27 spicy salami and cream cheese. My partner got the number 1, ham, cream cheese and rocket salad. Both are very good sized and oh so delicious. The line moved quickly, so many options for decision paralysis. This is the place for schiacciate Florentine as recommended from friends who used to live here. Definitely would recommend to study up their menu before coming so it's easier to pick what you want. This is more of a stall and you grab and go, we stood around the sidewalk and inhaled our sandwiches. Watch out for the pigeons getting ready to take your crumbs too, you can see them on the ledge of the building getting ready to attack. A must visit for Florence.

Racist owner randomly took my table and chair while I was eating on it to give to a Caucasian European couple. l'm an Asian female by the way. I showed him that my boyfriend was waiting in line to purchase food and constantly assured him we were using them and that we were buying food. He still took my table and chair and said I'll give you another one- to which it down graded to eating off 3 short chairs. I told the European couple that it wasn't fair that the server took our table to give to them and they just smiled and dismissed me. Racism at its finest. Their sandwich is not good. Actually the sandwich shop across the street I' Grone De Ghiotti is way better with service and sandwich taste. Sadly I don't think this post will change the attitude of the owner.

It would be the third sandwich spot on our trip, and we had been to a couple of bangers beforehand that set the bar. I was a bit worried that we were getting lured into a tourist trap because of the restaurant being by the duomo, but it was located behind it where there was much less foot traffic compared to the front facing Piazza Santa Maria Novella. We arrived around noon on a Sunday. My husband and I arrived early enough to beat the lunch crowd, so we had no wait at all. By the time we finished our sandwiches, we saw the queue out the door. There were a couple of high tables inside the restaurant, but there was more seating outdoor. I really liked how you can customize your sandwich the way you wanted down to the bread, meats, cheeses, and toppings. They didn't only have schiaccata bread, which I thought was cool. You had other options of breads like ciabatta. Panini Toscani allows you to sample their various meats, such as porchetta, proscuitto, mortadella, etc. As someone who doesn't eat pork, one of the employees had me sample their various cheeses instead. Since I've been eating schiaccati the past 2 days, I stuck to the same bread as a baseline and added soft cheese, arugula, spicy marinara, eggplant, and sundried tomatoes. I enjoyed my sandwich very much, and the crunch on the bread was everything.

Panini Toscani sits right near the Duomo, making it one of the most conveniently located (and…read morepopular) quick bites in Florence. The exterior is small and charming, with a line spilling out the door, while the interior is cozy and bustling with limited seating. The vibe is lively, welcoming, and very interactive, with opportunities to taste their various meats and cheeses. There's Italian and English menus to peruse before you create your customizable sandwich; the amount of options is almost overwhelming, though sampling can help alleviate this "problem." We arrived at around noon on a Wednesday, and waited around fifteen minutes; the line moves fast, despite being out the door! You select from a variety of breads, meats, cheeses, and four additional toppings; they will then lightly toast your sandwich, and you pay at the front counter. I opted for their Ciabatta Toscana with Porchetta (roast pork), Stracciatella (a shredded creamy cheese similar to burrata), rucola (arugula), pepperoni sotto aceto (peppers in vinegar), pepperoni grigliati (grilled peppers), and melanzane (eggplant). My panini was a wonderful blend of textures and flavors; the bread had a crisp exterior and a pillowy-soft interior, the roast pork was succulent and well-seasoned with an herby crust, the straciatella added a creamy richness, and the various vegetables packed an acidic punch. The sandwich was also quite a generous portion, leaving me full for hours. In terms of price point, I believe I ended up paying around €12, which was quite affordable, especially given the central location, interactive experience, and generous portions: excellent value for a high-quality quick meal.
