This is a nice dog park that separates the large dogs from the small dogs (max 30 lbs.). All the dogs have to be spayed or neutered to enter. The dog park was relatively clean. They do provide balls, however, I recommend you bring your own. All the balls were very dirty and worn out. They have a little water fountain and dog bowls there's enough space for your dog to run around and be free. I came here on a Sunday around 10 AM and the small dog park was empty. Parking is a bit of a hassle especially since there is a huge park and field right adjacent to the dog parks. read more

I was on a long drive with two dogs, one of whom will not potty on leash. We found a dog park slightly south of Baltimore, but one side had overly friendly dogs and one side had a Very Unfriendly dog, so we had to move on. I had not been to the Canton Dog Park before, but found it quite easily and there was ample parking available. The "small/senior" dog side was empty, so we went in and stayed for probably 20 minutes playing and enjoying the freedom outside of the car. The humans on the other side were friendly and helpful, pointing out that we could run to the pub across the street for human facilities, too. I love to see this area being built up and turned into a well-lit, friendly neighborhood. read more

I found this dog park in my new area and thought I'd give it a try. I generally go to the Patterson Park dog park, but it's nice to have options. One the day I went there were 2 other dogs there. Off the bat, it's different to have dirt versus mulch or grass. It'll do as another option. Now that I think about it, I don't know if there was a water source. I'll check again when I go back. What I did like was the bucket of balls and a few of those throwers for all to use. I'll be back from time to time. read more

Thank goodness for outdoor basketball courts in Canton! It's the only one in the area. It's not great (there's only two half courts), but beggars can't be choosers. It would be awesome if the community spent more money on renovating the courts, rather than make subtle improvements to the dog park itself. read more

I love how large and open the dog park is, even the small dog side. Many people complain the sandy surface makes their dogs dirty, but I find its so much better on their paws/joints than concrete like the Patterson dog park. The volunteers defiantly make a huge effort to maintain the space, there are always new chairs being donated and recently they put it more trees for some shade. It is also way less crowded than the Patterson dog park and it seems like more responsible dog owners come to Canton as well (pick up dog waste, and actually watch their dogs the whole time). I've lived in the area for 3+ years with dogs. When I first decided to socialize my dog at the park, I was aware of the rules and understood that you always need to watch your dog. The problem here is 90% owner and 10% dog. About 70% of the owners there do watch their dogs and are aware of when their dogs are getting to aggressive to be in the park and remove them, leaving the other 30% who are too busy socializing with the other owners, drinking, and on the phone. Almost every day after 2010 that I went there (3 days a week), I witnessed owners leaving their dogs and going outside the area to do something, owners ignoring the dogs pooping bc they don't want to pick it up (actually seen owners watching the dog and then pretended they didn't see it), and dogs being beyond aggressive with being ignored by the owners even after something was said to them. The park environment has gone dramatically down hill with their fundraising efforts being poor. Such a shame but I decided this year that I rather have to drive my dogs to another park outside of our area then go to this park. read more

EDIT: Deducted a star for the experience we had today - not at all related to the facility. Ruby and I have visited many dog parks, and she's never had a problem getting along with anyone, human or canine. This park seems to have some of the most aggressive dogs that I've ever seen. Today a large pit mix simply picked a fight with her right in front of us - it was really frightening. We finally managed to pull the two dogs apart. What surprised me was that the owners just put it on a leash and stayed in the park, where it proceeded to snarl and lash out at any dog that came near it. Generally, it is a bad idea to have a dog on a leash inside of off-leash park because it does not have equal access as other dogs and can very easily start lashing out. Although it makes me sad, we plan to stay away from the park because I don't want to have to worry about Ruby getting hurt. ***** What a fantastic community resource. The Canton Dog Park is operated completely by volunteers and community donations. Ruby and I are so happy there's such a great place nearby to play and socialize. Lots of benches to sit on and plenty of shade. Bonus points for small and large dog areas - keeps everyone happy and relaxed. Parking is always easy and located in a pretty and safe neighborhood. read more

Can we all just agree on the fact that dogs have got to be the most entertaining domestic animals ever? I'll be honest. I'm a cat lover, but my boyfriend has a hound that needs to get some energy out, so we come here every now and then. It's such a great spot for some exercise and fun and definitely a lot of laughs. There are some ridiculous personalities running around within these fences, including the dogs ;) The park is spacey, clean (for what it is), and the pet owners that come here are friendly. You'll get the occasional individual that shows up without a dog, but don't worry. It's usually to play with the pets and I don't blame them. So much cuteness. All in all, it's a great addition to Patterson Park. read more

This park is awesome, its small and close to home. Everyone is always really nice, the downside would probably just be the sand in general. Its just weird but it doesn't really smell horribly bad and there are always bags to pick up your doggies presents :) I wish they did have the small kid pools like the patterson park dog park but never the less my dogs always have a blast here! Plus there is always tons of balls to play with, on a side note, sometimes there is a good basketball game going on and hearing those guys talk shit to each other makes the trip more enjoyable. We used to bring our dog to this park all the time since its so close but now we go out of our way to go to the Patterson Park dog park. The Canton dog was nice but now its full of sand...no grass, no turf and no concrete. I must say this wasn't the smartest idea considering how gross sand gets! If you drive to the park forget about letting your pet get in the car unless you want a backseat full of sand and sand fleas. I can't imagine what this is going to be like during the summer....needless to say we weren't impressed with the 'improvements' and wished the person that designed the Patterson Park dog park would've done the same for the Canton one. At one point this park would be filled with people and their pets...it's very sad that hardly anyone goes to this park anymore. read more

Great clean decent sized park. Dogs there are very friendly and non-aggressive. Has a water fountain for you and your dog too! It's in a great location, we take our American bulldog pitbull mix pup to play on weekends. Definitely 5 stars! read more

I enjoy watching dogs play in a controlled manner and just being dogs just like the next person. Dog parks can be great to help dogs socialize. We have had some wonderful experiences there with the people and other dogs. Lately, I have been experiencing problems with some of the owners not watching their dogs. For Example, when one enters the dog park please remove your dogs from the entrance so the new dog can enter and adjust. The other week as I was entering the park, I thought it was safe. However, I did not see the dominant signals of a hound dog mix and got in my dog's face, pushing him in the entry zone, growled and him and tried to corner him after I opened the gate. Luckily my dog did not attack back and was still leashed. He would have done a lot of damage to the hound dog if he were aggressive pit mix. We just left the park and played in the tennis court. I feel as though the dog park should not have any toys bigger than a tennis ball. A fight broken out again (owner was not watching dog) when a German Shepard Mix had a hack Sack ball in his mouth. The Shepard Mix was getting bigger; tail was up high another dog runs over to play tug a war then my dog runs over as the two dogs started fighting. My dog got a small nick on his forehead. Again, I was there to grab my dog to prevent further damage because I WAS WATCHING MY DOG AND THE OTHER PERSON'S DOG!!! It does work two ways. Yeah my dog can get hyped up. I removed my dog from the park when he did not seem to like another dog and started showing dominance towards a mastiff breed. The last thing anyone should want is for their dogs to fight and get injured. People need to be more aware of dog's behavior. I am so tired of hearing "My dog is not usually like this", Yeah okay! Dogs have teeth and they will bite if triggered. Every living creature has a breaking point If my dog is too excited at the 7 to 10 level, 10 being max he does not enter the park. Other people should have the same consideration. When dogs are not exercised before entering the park there more likely to become over anxious - that will cause a fight. I think people that bring dogs to dog parks need to pass an exam about dog language, how to prevent fights and the fee should be more than 20 dollars a year. Either the owners don't care, are in denial (no my dog would not do that) or they may just need to be a little more educated on dog language. I have been to the Canton Dog Park 7 times the past month and only entered 2 times because from a distance I observed owners not watching their dogs and when their dogs where displaying signs of dominance like mounting, growling with hair and tail up to high or down to low, bulling, pouncing. The other time I never entered because my dog was too hyped up. PEOPLE PLEASE THE DOG PARK IS FOR THE COMMUNITY WATCH YOUR DOG!!!. I am at the point where I do not want to go to the park with my dog. I would love to most of the patrons and dogs are cool. My dog had a great time there before. It is always that few that screw it up for others. read more

This is not a bad dog park, at all, but I just can't get over the gross dusty ground. Really wish it had some grass so my dogs wouldn't come home covered in dirty dust particles. Definitely appreciate that it has a small dog side and a large dog side. read more
