One can compare Canton Food Co. as a Chinese Costco, with the key distinction that membership is not required. However, unlike other wholesale warehouses in the SGV (San Gabriel Valley) area with more à la carte selection, Canton Food Co. almost completely caters to restaurant owners/buyers, making it less appealing for casual grocery shoppers. Although there are volume discounts available, not all "bulk" discount prices are necessarily better than those found at local Asian supermarkets. This, coupled with the effort required to navigate the entire warehouse, raises questions about whether the extra savings are worth the additional hassle. Personally, I find other warehouses such as LAX-C in Chinatown or NTFOODS in El Monte to be more preferable, as they offer a more welcoming environment for casual shoppers and provide a shopping experience that closely resembles that of an actual Costco. For the past year we have been buying the canton label froze Strawberries, from Egypt. In the last month or so, we have notice in the past three trips a different brand of frozen strawberry boxes that are of the lowest quality (here is the label so you know I am not making it up. Absolutely horrible [sunleafffoods]), (weird smell, a stale taste, and no color. ) we discover the issue just recently after we notice customer complains growing with our smoothies. In addition, the strawberries look bad all broken and brownish. The product was also stuck together on the last batch I bought. I have receipts showing I been buying this horrible brand. For my frozen strawberry I had to go to local markets to replace it since Canton let me down. read more

Here it is, the "if they mated version" of Ranch 99 and Smart & Final. Near the edge of downtown L.A., just off the 10. All sorts of international food stuffs at really competitive prices, bulk grocery things and great deals on produce. Strangely, not as intimidating as your typical warehouse for groceries. Staff are efficient and helpful. They'll even help load stuff into your vehicle. Canton Foods has a parking lot. Of course, it's good to exercise extra precautions in general, anywhere you are parking in L.A. Bald guy at the register is rude yelling and demanding my customer number. As I gave it to him he was short and didn't show any customer services skills at all. It was obvious he was there only for a paycheck which I understand but there's at least a common courtesy of customer service. At least look at the person you speak to and adjust your tone cuz you're at work not a social event. And it helps when you thank the person that's partially contributing to your paycheck as well. Canton Food Co. is somewhat unique in it's wide variety of wholesale food items and restaurant supplies. Open to the general public, you can find some great bargains in their large size and bulk selections. It helps to know your prices as certain items are no less expensive here than at a Smart & Final or Sam's Club. Many less common cuts of fresh meat, fish and produce are regularly stocked to meet the needs of a wide ranging variety of restaurants. The facility is large, but after a few visits I found it pretty easy to locate what I was looking for. There are many friendly employees willing to assist when needed. There is a free parking area right in front of the entrance and the staff will gladly assist loading your car. The temperature inside is kept on the cool side, so dress accordingly if you get cold easily. read more

It's like a mini Costco with a long aisle of reasonably priced seafood and meats with various seasonings and ingredients for Asian and Hispanic foods. We bought a huge case of avocados - 82 in box for like $38. We made a lot of guacamole! and gave some away. If I'm having a BBQ or a big dinner I think it's worth coming to DTLA to buy certain meats and fresh groceries. They are not organic but they're well priced. Great prices for frozen seafood and meats but since it is a restaurant supply store, make sure you have the freezer/fridge space as they do not have smaller bags for purchase. No fresh/live seafood available. Lots of bulk spices used in Asian and Hispanic dishes can be found as well as drinks. Some Asian vegetables also available. We were often asked if we needed help by different employees in different sections of the store so that was pleasantly surprising. This store was cleaner than another wholesaler that we went to but less selection. Cash or debit card preferred. No membership required. Fairly small parking lot so good luck! read more

Idk what "Luke L" is crying about... this business isn't geared towards individual consumers. Go to your beloved Costco for that. Most places like this aren't even open to the public... so the fact that Canton doesn't require a paid membership or even a business license, is truly a gift. You would have to be really dense to not know how to navigate this place. I have purchased their ribeye roll and sliced it into individual steaks for a fraction of what Costco or any market sells it for. I love that you have the option to not purchase things by the case! Nice big grocery store that requires no membership You can purchase club store food and reasonable prices. Variety is great came for shrimp, crab and lobster and picked up chicken and veggie dumplings also. They have everything in jumbo size. Parking not ideal but it will be worth it once you enter the store. Cash or credit accepted. Everyone is so friendly and employee are everywhere to help you find what you need. We went on a Sunday. Parking was easy. You need to be aware of people walking to their cars and cars driving too fast in the parking lot. Be sure you have CASH, they don't accept any other form of payment!! This is a warehouse full of products at wholesale prices. No photography allowed in the store. So, the only pictures I took were outside. It is quite dim, but you can see in there. It is mostly items sold in bulk for restaurants, rather than the average family. We found a few things that were considered "loose", as in not in bulk. We were looking for something to do and this was a good thing to do. There is a sign that says "Do not tip the employees". There are people to assist you in taking your purchase to your car and help you load it. We didn't really need help, but the guy insisted. One thing, while you are inside, you are being watched. There are employees in practically every aisle. It could be a good thing, especially if you need help. All in all, we will be back when we're prepared to buy more... and with more cash on us! read more

I am definitely impressed that you can pay wholesale prices without needing to have a membership card like Costco. Membership is optional if you are a business owner and wishes to be tax-exempt I believe. Cash or Debit card only. This will be my new favorite place to go to for cooking up a storm during holiday parties, birthday events, or just stocking up for weeks ahead. They have all types of Asian noodles, curries, seafood, party supplies, Latin food, vegetables, beverages etc The only reason I can't give a perfect five star is because some workers were speeding when driving their warehouse trucks in the aisles. If a customer gets hit, that's high liability. I know some of them probably could not wait to go home because it was close to 5 PM so they were rushing to stock up and put away stuff. I hope the management would give them some precaution. read more

If you aren't buying bulk then LAX-C is a better place. Prices are not all that great as 99 Ranch usually has better prices and selection for single items and for "bulk" rice. Flour prices have jumped and they didn't have bread flour. Strange. They do have high gluten flour but I wasn't sure how that works for bread. The people on the aisles are very attentive if you need help, i was buying juice and has many of the workers ask if i needed any help. Great little out of the way place that is part warehouse supermarket, part Asian food emporium; I'm usually stopping in for harder to find items (Lychees, Thai sweet chili, real mustard...), but they also have plenty of bulk items (frozen veggies, rice, 40lbs of big chicken legs). This place is way better than the dirty LAX-C selling expired products. Although, this is a Chinese wholesale, you won't find that many Asian food products. You don't have to be a member. This place is horrible! Their management should really do something about lack of organization and customer service. I've been coming here for over 3 years now but during my last 2 visits, I've had unpleasant experience BOTH times. First, I asked a worker if he can help me carry one of the meat that's in the fridge to my cart. He literally looked at the meat product for good 10 seconds and said he's not able to carry that. In the end, I had to ask another worker who just happened to pass by. Second, there was literally no one to help with the carts. The workers were literally just chatting with each other and not helping the other customers. Third, the security guy was horrible. He's just bad at showing signs to drivers to prevent them from getting into an accident. I almost got into an accident while backing out..followed the security officer's orders but other car backing up too! He should've seen that coming as there were also no cars around me. This place is an amazing place to find things you need for a party cups napkins plates plastic ware , we've been going to this place for a long time the reason I give it a 1 star is because when I went to pay I had gotten 4 packs of napkins from an open box ! When I got to the register I didn't realize that they didn't have a barcode so they called a manager By the name of See ! So she went back to where the napkins were and comes back with 4 packs and tells me that I don't need to be opening boxes that there was a box open ! Everybody else might call this place Canton Food Co., but I call it Canton Caverns. Many compare the caverns to Costco, but it more resembles a dimly lit Home Depot gone all Smart & Final, because it caters to the restaurant trade. Merchandise is accessed and restocked by employees riding forklifts or pushing powered dollies. If what you want happens to be out of reach, a staffer will cheerfully retrieve it from a pallet somewhere in the three stories of shelving above you. While the best deals are on the produce and ingredients of Asian menus, including cases of import beer, the freezer wall on the north side contains meats and seafood for a rainbow of restaurant themes, and the south wall is devoted to containers, bags, napkins, utensils and other behind-the-scenes foodservice necessities. But it's the aisles in the middle of the store where the packaged, canned and bottled goods are located that might knock your socks off. You can find Asian sauces and condiments at unheard-of prices compared to the supermarket, and if you're up for a little volume you'll get a great price on five-pound bags and jars of herbs and spices, or maybe a gallon of sesame-seed oil. Plaudits to those who have dared to photograph inside the caverns, because signs about the entrance warn against snapshots and price-quoting.
