The Customer Service at the store is appalling. I had an unpleasant interaction at the register with a young man by the name of Andre. I heard a cashier say next when I started walking towards that direction. I didn't know which one it said next so I asked and Andre said no one said that. Then the Young cashier did say it said over here and I looked at Andre and I said maybe you should just mind your business. After I was finished being checked out I asked the cashier for help to my car. He went to Andre and Andre refused to call for help for me. I think he thinks he own the store. I went here on a day pass. Obtaining the day pass was quick and easy. We spent our time walking through the store as it was my first time. The store is huge and very well kept. We were warned how cold it would be in the freezer area and oh boyyyy was she right! My fingertips started to go numb after about 10 minutes of being in there! We got what we needed and we left. They were out of chicken wings but I forgot it was close to super bowl time. The prices were very good for the amount of items you get. read more

The front desk customer service is always fabulous. At the customer service desk greeters have been there for over 20 years. One of my all-time favorites is a black beautiful sister she's Extremely helpful & family oriented just kindness extremely amazing they have so many of my favorite items great selection of everything my favorite are the hamburger buns, selection a combination of taco shells. All of the sauces prices are reasonable, a fresh in-house seafood selection array of different cheeses out of this world last time I was there my cashier was Tori a beautiful black sister simply amazing, She was outstanding and making sure my prices were all correct letting me know what the actual charges are and making suggestions. Avoid this location unless you enjoy paying for new car windows. Several cars have been broken into at this location including mine (see below). I was told by two managers that this location has no working cameras and somehow none of the staff members seem to ever notice anyone breaking into cars. Not to mention the prices here are higher than other stores and the staff is unfriendly and very unhelpful. I would rate this place zero stars if I could. The selection is great but the employees and just MISERABLE. So tired of interacting with employees at these establishments who expect an inflated hourly but do less than the bare minimum. You have to lower you expectations all the way down past the pavement. However, if you can get past the sadness of the staff the selections are great and they have reasonable prices. read more

I have been coming to Restaurant Depot at least twice a week for the last year, and even though I am not a fan, it does seem that lately the management has been trying to improve the service. The last month, especially, I have noticed a few more employees saying Hello or asking me how its going, which is definitely an improvement. The desk help always seems like you're bothering them when you need to make a return or get a new card, but there is definitely improvement...steady improvement. Hopefully soon the new attitude will trickle through all the departments and then management can get to work on speeding up the checkout process. read more

Been coming here for 6 years. Every time I come in it gets worse. Now they cut the trees down outside and the place looks so run down and in need of attention. But I'll let you know a few of my gripes. I used to buy the Wincup FH16 cups here. They were almost always not on the shelf and up high so you have to call someone over to bring them down. When they are out on the shelf they are open and I had to take the risk of buying the open ones and when I get back they are either missing cups or busted open. Same thing goes for the 20C18 cups, it's like they put 2 out on the shelf at a time or something. Then they put the print versions of the same cups next to it and you get confused, buy the wrong cup pay more for a thin cup. Try buying 3 1/8 receipt paper here, they have a register roll section and it's all hidden or not in stock most of the time. The freezer section is obviously too small. Used to buy crab legs here and they really started getting bad about keeping them out on the shelf. So one day they showed a whole bunch in their inventory and the guy opens the door to the freezer and it's full to the top all the way to the back of inventory so there's not even room to walk in and find them. The produce here is all bruised up and old. You want to see nice produce, go to Canton in downtown LA. Huge difference. The other day the curtain to the fridge was broke, a huge gaping hole and I was wondering how much energy they were losing. I didn't think about it and bought 2 cases of half and half with a good expiration date. When took it back, both cases I poured down the drain all messed up probably because that curtain wasn't keeping the cold air in. When stuff here goes out of stock it can be gone for a long time. Take for instance quart foil sacks, those were gone for I don't know how long and how many times I stopped in only to have to drive to downtown. That's what irks me about this place, if I stop in these days I'm basically gambling that they would have everything and end up driving to downtown instead. This store is too small and outdated. At the newer stores like Van Nuys and Huntington it's big and clean. You can also store your card on your phone and scan in with your phone unlike this location. I would think this store is in one of the most prime locations in LA with proximity to the Westside and Beverly Hills. My restaurant buddies always talk about how bad this location is, management just think about if you took this store to the level that Huntington Beach is you would win back so many customers. The other complaints about the staff I think are not right. The staff here is the only bright spot, with the exception of that kid in the seafood section who always thought I was messing up the freezer when in truth they stacked the boxes to the crab legs so bad I had to put half my body in the freezer and move a bunch of stuff around to get to any. The people here are friendly and helpful considering how completely dismal this location is management should be lucky to get a smile out of anyone working here. read more

As a family business owner I am there at least once or twice a week but when it comes down to service they have their own definition of SLOW! Very Very SLOW!!! Weather it's an empty pallet space where the canola oil is when there is a whole pallet up above then waiting for a 1/2 hour for someone to get a fork lift to take it down to the check out process where many items don't ring up on the register which you have to wait 10 minutes for them to find it to waiting an additional 10 minutes to wait for someone to double check your order to make sure the cashier did not over or under charge/count you its just slow on top of slow. If it was any other day but Sunday, I'd be driving the extra mileage to Costco Business Center in Hawthorne. Although it's twice as far, the pricing is better, the people are nicer, and it would take me about the same amount of time if not less to do my shopping. Let me add to the previous post. It is a one-stop shop for restauraunts, cafe's, caterers, and really anyone with a business and a business license. Wholesale prices are amazing--but they don't have the gourmet selections that a Surfas might have. They are the "bread-and-butter" basics place to get produce, fish/meats/poultry, various basic ingredients, baking ingredients, as well as other food-service supplies. I'm a bakery owner, and this place has helped me out in a pinch (e.g. when my distributors can't make a delivery when I need it). I'm actually heading there now! read more

Real 1S. This place has everything you need but customer service. Only one guy knows where anything is...if he's out to lunch...they are clueless. Their method of checking out, which causes serious turtle lines, is ridiculous. They might as well use stone tablets to ring up customers because it's so slow. First the cashier yells to the supervisor who stands near another screen near the exit for some code. Then the cashier rings up each item...marks each item...which often is plenty. Then yells again for a supervisor to double-check her work. Then she waits for the credit card machine that is shared between two registers. Even though it has the word Depot...it's nothing like Home Depot or Costo's method of doing things. read more

Over all I love restaurant depots but particularly with this location I am not impressed. It's a heaven for restaurant owners and visit four/five times a week . The difference between this one and the one in valley is personal touch . Nobody cares to know me here but it's totally opposite there . People even know me and lot of others by name who shop there . Been coming to restaurant depots all over the country, and this one is the most disorganized disaster I've ever seen. Supervisors are non existent and once you get rung up, it could literally take another 20 min for someone to "confirm" your order and do the final check out. Anyone reading this is probably in the restaurant industry and knows how valuable our time is - especially when trying to stock your restaurant with fresh ingredients every day. This location is like a time vortex... better off paying more and having your order delivered by a vendor... It's too bad, as the depots on the east coast are great. OK, quick one. If you own or work for a restaurant, you can indeed find amazing deals. A lot of the stuff is a lot less expensive than from any other of your vendors. However, they don't have everything and some of the quality is not that great. They do however have stuff (lot of Asian products) that none of your regular vendors (even big ones like Sysco) carry, so kudos for them. It's a bit of a drive and these days you have to place a minimum of $1,000 for picking up an order you faxed in the day before, so if you can't meet that minimum, you have to go around and get everything yourself and stand in line to check out. Their checkout process is the worst. Slow and you always need a manager to check if they cashier wrung up the right amount of items. This is really stupid. Why don't you use cashiers that you can trust? It really takes too much extra time and it is unnecessary. They should do away with it. Honestly, I hope they're reading this and will listen. I mean, really, most people would check their receipt and if it's wrong, they can complain before they leave. The manager sits right there by the exit, anyway. I really find it almost offending, but it's definitely annoying. The thing that earned their 3rd star from me is that they started carrying wine. They carry wines from some of your major distributors, but they also created a couple of their own labels at amazingly affordable prices, that are not available anywhere else and the quality is actually really good. I had some of our customers blind taste the Chianti we carry against their label (Armeli) and everyone liked the RD Chianti better. And the price is half as much as we pay for the one we carry. Same with their Chilean wines (Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon) and the Australian Shiraz/ Cabernet blend. I am actually quite impressed by their selection. They do also carry some very expensive high-end stuff. Justin, the wine guy actually knows his stuff and can recommend anyone great selections to their needs/menu. He lets you taste wines if he see you're serious about buying some. If you carry at least 4 of their own labels, they can also create and print your wine list free of charge. You can't beat that. So, overall, great place to shop (you do need a business license and a resale permit to shop there) and save money. Once you can figure out the timing, you can save a lot of money. They have everything a restaurant could ever need (cleaning supplies, packaging materials, equipment, cooking utensils, etc.) on top of all the food products. They also carry fresh produce. BUT, they really need to work on their checkout procedures!!!! read more

I found most of what I needed. I was very impressed with the customer service I received from the front desk to the parking lot! After searching high and low, the worker couldn't find the cases of moscato that the system said was in stock. I could find the cases of wine I needed, so I told the young man to box up what they had. He did it with a smile. I needed a license extension, the lady at the front desk was kind enough to take care of me. The checker was patient and friendly. Without asking, a worker helped me load my car. If you don't know what is is, I'll tell you. It's a restaurant supply wholesaler so you need a business license to get in and a resale license to buy tax free. If you don't have either of those don't bother, you are not really missing anything. Between Surfas, Smart & Final and Costco I suppose, you can get most of the same stuff as thy have in here. At Restaurant depot store I was told the site is affiliated with them and if i purchase something online and it doesn't work for me then i can return it to the store "THIS IS NOT TRUE". once you purchase any equipment from this online store you CAN NOT return it to the store. The restocking fees are upwards of 20% which are 100s of $$. The information given from the store is completely misleading and incorrect. read more

My friend has a business license so I get to come shop here in bulk tax free! Lots of good deals...u can spend an entire day in here.
