Tru was created during the pandemic, and so it is bright, metallic, open and probably easily cleaned. Those would seem to be the virtues as far as we are concerned. To be more specific, our room was very quite small, there was no closet (only several wall hooks), the AC was noisy. Our bed was comfortably firm, and the bathroom was clean. But then, the floors have no rugs, so it's easier to keep everything clean, we presume. All in all, we felt like we were visiting in some sort of experimental domicile. The lobby is very open with seating spread out, and the hotel urges visitors to sit and hang around there. Oh yeah, the breakfast bar offered pretty limited selections and wasn't very tasty. We won't be back.

The room was a…read morelarge king bed room overlooking the water -- three large windows provided the viviews, and in addition there was a small private wood deck right outside the room also with a glorious sea view. The room was spotlessly clean, the bathroom was large with a very nice step-in shower (no tub), and there was also a roomy closet. The bed proved comfortable, and the AC worked fine. Technology got in the way with the TV, however. We couldn't figure how to operate it, and asked the staff to help. It took them a while to get it right, but then the next evening we encountered the same problem and got the same help. Too much technology, in our opinion. The suites are entered from the street and up a flight of steps - no elevators. Hauling bags can be challenging. The front desk is in the next door restaurant, a little confusing at first. Parking is free in a small lot across the street, though spaces are limited. There are a couple of restaurants, all part of the same group, located in the building. (We review them separately.) One gripe: one of the restaurants has an outside speaker spewing a sort of loud disco 80s beat music and we could feel the thump-thump in our room from around 3 until it quit at 11pm. We asked about having it stopped and got no results. A minor issue but an annoying one that keeps us from giving this hotel five stars. The staff proved friendly and helpful. The suites are quite a bargain given their size and the views, a little under $200 per night in US dollars. Digby is a nice little town on the Bay of Funky famous for its fresh scallops, and we can't imagine there's a better place to stay if you're visiting here.

The fairways and bunkers are in horrible condition. No grass. Hard dried mud on every fairway and bunker complex. Tee decks are not maintained. Stanley Thompson would be so disappointed in how poorly maintained his course is. Avoid as there are are far better golf courses in the area

I wanted something very close to the ferry since I was coming in in the evening and need a good night's rest before moving to my next destination a few hours away. When I checked in, the woman up at the front desk was very friendly and I learned that I could park right in front of my room...in front of the sliding glass doors, that is. Not only could I unload/load from the back of my room... the sliding glass door were double glass. Like 2 different sets of doors. I'm not sure if that was as insulation from harsh cold winters or if that was a safety factor. Or both. Either way, you could not get in without going inside the front door and opening the door from the key inside the hall, but then you could unlock both doors and get to your car from the back of your room. I had never seen this kind of set up before - and I thought it was quite convenient. Especially in my situation where I am traveling with pets and have a lot to bring in and back to the car... Once inside, although everything was brown...and kinda dated...it was spacious, had everything I needed, a giant tv, a clean and comfortable bed, plenty of space to put all of my stuff and my pets' stuff... And, it was CLEAN! The bathroom was clean, the shower had its own bar of soap along with the bathroom sink (so happy for that...finding many places only providing ONE bar). Also, they had shampoo and conditioner on the wall. I usually like to go OUT for breakfast and find local fare. But I was on a mission to go on an excursion and I was late so I had breakfast there. I was super happy to see a make your own waffle station, there were hot scrambled (and seasoned) eggs and shot sausage patties. I also had coffee and a little bit of apple juice. I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty ALL of it was. It was quick and free. When I went to the front desk after breakfast, I mentioned I was running out on an excursion and might be running a little late...they were so nice and let me have a late check out (requested the night before) and when I got back from my excursion, I was later than I expected and took longer getting packed up and into the car with all the pet stuff... I told them I would understand if they needed to charge me something for staying so much later than our original agreed-to late check out time... They said that wouldn't be necessary. What lovely people! And what a lovely place. I have no idea why the other reviews are so bad - I an only say none of them are recent so maybe something changed...? But this was a great stay! I only deducted one star for it being dated and all brown.

It's right next to the ferry and is easy to find and when you arrive the staff was friendly and quite capable. This alone makes it better than many hotels. It's also right next to a pharmacy and a gas station which makes it perfect for anyone just beginning a road trip through Nova Scotia. Continuing on to Halifax a hundred plus miles away or sleeping in one's car as others have suggested makes no sense, and quite frankly there are no high end hotels in town as of yet. This is a simple fishing community, but sometimes simple is best.
