I was initially pleased when management changed, as the prior management was disinterested and rude. However, today I stopped by the store 25 minutes after posted opening hour, and the door was still locked with lights off, and no explanation anywhere. If the hours have changed, it's management's responsibility to post the update online and at the storefront--otherwise, at least one employee is obligated to open on time. The lack of both shows a total disregard for the value of customers' time, and not everyone is walking distance. Those of us fortunate enough to live in Bethesda have lots of choices, and I'll be buying wine elsewhere from now on. read more

The woman who we encountered working there was an absolutely a pleasure to talk to. She helped me find a wine called Educated Guess, and though it was a little more than I'm used to spending on a bottle of wine... it was freakin' delicious. She told me that it was her favorite Cabernet Sauvignon, and that also a lot of NIH people love to buy it because of the scientific drawings on the front. We got into a conversation about wedding venues, not for me, but for my roommates sister. Such a sweet woman. She told about how the wine selection is carefully curated. Rolled through to buy booze for the office Christmas/Solstice party. Decent balance of options to satisfy both the Everyman and the Snob. They still had 2 cases of Hell or High Watermelon in the fridge but the guy winced to admit that they were fresh out of Fireside Chat and wouldn't be able to get more in til next week. Good spread of local picks-- Heavy Seas, Dogfish, Flying Dog. Ginger beer available as a mixer, some Popchips and chocolate on display. Wines pretty logically organized. Both gents on the floor were friendly and helpful, as was Angie on my return visits. Open to making wine recommendations, which is great since they avoid purchasing from mainstream winemakers to offer competitive pricing on uncommon wines. The thing is - you need a place to buy beer and wine in our little area of Bethesda but you don't feel like going into the schlocky News Exprees place on Cordell or want a more upscale experience then Bethesda Beer and wine. This is the place for you. The entire store front maybe measures 200 square feet - but its well put together. For as small as it is, the store does a decent job of providing a a good selection/variety. A small amount of the items left me scratching my head at their pricing strategy (I recall a broken down six back selling individual beers that cost almost 50% of the 6 pack!). The pricing is fair - although I'd rate it slightly higher then average. The service is awesome and the staff is always willing to help and strike up a pleasant conversation. Definitely a place to make your go to. read more

This is a very convenient store in Old Town Bethesda. They offer great service and know what they're talking about. It is more expensive, but not by much and bear in mind the rent is very high here. I love seeing the street signs they set out with funny messages or specials. read more

I told him sour beers, and he proceeded to walk me through all the sour beers they have with an apt description of each and offered to sell a single of something they only had in a pack of 4. I stop in every 6 months when I'm in Bethesda for a meeting. I know that I can always find a really nice wine for under $20 to enjoy for the few quiet evenings until I fly home. A gem in the heart of Bethesda. A well organized wine and beer store with an interesting inventory of less mainstream wines and a great beer selection. The staff is friendly and helpful. I love this beer and wine shop. It is conveniently located in the Woodmont Triangle. It is a small shop but they have an excellent selection of Beer and Wine. Limited knowledge and check your receipt! This small shop is conveniently located, but that's about it. Their selection is limited, and the staff has no idea what they are doing. The merchant had never heard of Savennieres ... So, OK if you're looking for a oaky, overpriced California Chardonnay or Cab, but otherwise just useful in emergencies. The last time I was there, and it will be the last time, the cashier tried to pull a fast one on me, charging me for five bottles when I had only purchased three. When I pointed out the error, the shopkeepers' attitude was that it's always the customer's fault, if he gets fooled. Maybe it didn't help that I am half asian, and the shopkeeper is a whitie.
