Friendly staff, could use better food offerings when you are sitting at the bar. But overall a good place to hang out in the evening. My only complaint is their billing methods. If you tip, your card gets charged the regular amount and then again for the regular amount plus tip. It takes days for the regular amounts to drop off. So if you go there several times. I've gotten to know the staff personally and they all have great energy and good knowledge of their selections. REBUTTAL TO MANAGER RESPONSE BELOW: The difference between my review and the Manager's response is my statement is an accurate description of my poor experience at this neighborhood store and the Manager below makes a desperate attempt at character assassination with a series of false statements and exaggerated claims that never occurred. Is it believable that after I requested to taste 4 beers that were suggested, this Manager is claiming I just wanted to try as many beers as possible from their 22 beers on tap? And that I had a temper tantrum, and how do they know my age and last name? So how is this believable? Then implying I'm a regular when I've been there a total of three times over the past year. They have tiny tasting cups for this purpose like every other similar bar. I do frequent other similar establishments that know basic hospitality and this has NEVER been an issue. To be so petty that they need to limit to 2 tiny tastings from 22 featured beers on tap. Also interesting is there was no other customer at their bar area so Beto didn't have the excuse that he was too busy. I WONDER WHY? What is laughable is after they defend Beto's obnoxious behavior, their pettiness and their pitiful attempt at character assassination they "welcome me back to their bar." REALLY? I wouldn't go back to this place if they offered me unlimited samples of their entire beers on tap and a free mug of beer. They have a solid selection of both wine and beer at reasonable prices, which is always a plus. The location is super convenient, right in the heart of Downtown Crown. While I usually purchasing to enjoy at home, they have a nice seating area both indoors and outdoors if you want to enjoy your drinks there. I went during happy hour (everyday 4-6pm: 20% off charcuterie, wine & beer by the glass) on a weekday and it was crowded. There is a few indoor and outdoor seating, with tables being first come, first serve; all tables were full around 5pm. They have a good selection on tap, with mainly local brews and a few out of state. Staff were nice, gave some good recommendations and would often check on us even when it was busy. It has a good selection of beers, and wines and they pack a lot in the store despite it's size. Plenty of parking with a parking lot, street parking and a parking garage nearby. read more

We love this small place and can't wait for warmer weather to sit outside and enjoy other people's dogs. It's a pleasure to have a local place with friendly staff, great service and a fun ambience with live music on Saturday nights. A bit like a " Cheers". They have happy hours every night which is fun. It also has a great selection of wine and beer to go. Our only wish is that they could serve food but we understand it's small and they can't manage that. Every Saturday music and the service is great, but very pricey, especially the wine by the bottle, which is actually better to buy a bottle rather than per class. It's a great place when you can find what you want. Most times after a beer drop happens they're sold out before it drops or within an hour. There's also the issue of anytime I come in looking for something I feel as though I'm interrupting the people at the register while they're talking. Waiting for them to finish before asking for help. Lastly, I asked for a brand and was told that there's a few packs there in front of me. We moved here a year ago and one thing I was worried about was we had an amazing beer place by us. One that we even became friendly with the owners and they would get us the beers we were curious about. When we found DTCWB all those worries melted away. The place is adorable and when you have the chance to stay and have some beers it's super cute. There are also outside places to relax and enjoy a pint. They have an amazing selection and a really knowledgeable staff. I also love their social media posts to let us know what's coming soon and what has just arrived. There's definitely a reason why Downtown Crown Wine and Beer is so highly rated. The selection is fantastic, the store employees are super nice, and (when Covid is not a thing) they have a really nice in-store beer/wine program with small snacks that the community just loves. Not MUCH to write about here - just a solid Beer and Wine store. The selection of refrigerated alcohol is pretty vast as well (if you're running in for something that you will be drinking very soon #Always). Also they are bound to have some really interesting beers, some local, that will suit your fancy beer snob friends. I ended up getting a few wine bottles for gifts here as well as a beer that was aged in a bourbon barrel and infused with coffee I think. It sounded super interesting and was in a well designed bottle. This is a small bottle/wine shop located in the heart of Downtown Crown (Hence the name...duh). It gets quite crowded here on weekends and also during Happy Hour and I can see why. There are about 25 draft beer options and maybe 12-15 wine by the glass options to choose from. They have HH 7 days a week which is a great bonus. Last but not least, they have an amazing selection of beer and wine. They have crammed so much in this space, but it's not messy or overwhelming. The staff are very knowledgeable if you let them know your likes and dislikes they will point you in the right direction with purchases. The location is convenient and the options cant be beat. I only took 1 star because of how crowded it gets here. Sometimes I walk in and walk right back out due to that fact. read more

It was a little dry for me so I moved onto a blueberry cider which was really good! I had ordered an angry orchard but they didn't have one so the blueberry cider was recommended by our server. Our server was nice but a little slower paced. It took forever to get drinks, checks, etc. The selection of beers and wine seem to be very confusing. My coworker tried to order the same blueberry cider but was told they had just one. Didn't seem very consistent. Bought a bottle of wine here and the wine had a horrid, spoiled taste. There was also large particles in the wine that was not in previous bottles that we tried. Took it back to the store and they said that the wine is suppose to be like that and there was nothing that they could do. Terrible customer service. Came in one Saturday evening for their free wine tasting, ended up tasting and having a few pours of their on-tap beers instead. Located in the newly built Downtown Crown community in Gaithersburg, this store offers a wide variety of wines and craft beers at reasonable prices. They layout of the store is great and allows for easy browsing and maneuvering. Crafts beers on one side and wines on the other. Love how you can buy beers buy the pack, case, mix and match to your hearts content, or purchase a growler of their on-tap beers ($5 for the growler itself). Towards the back of the store you'll find about four high tops that seat four and two bars that seat six. Staff are plentiful and throughout the store. They are rather knowledgeable about the products they carry and don't mind if you ask them tons of questions. They offer happy hour daily from 4-7pm (20% off a glass of wine or pour of beer), so the back area was pretty full on a Saturday evening at 6pm. Luckily we were able to grab two seats at the bar. I like how they offer tastes ($2-$4) of their 12 beers on tap. I tried the Widmer Citra Blonde (crisp and refreshing), Flying Dog Bloodline (enjoyed the hops and love the hints of citrus), Firestone Double Jack (too intense for me), and DuClaw Sweet Baby Jesus (reminded me of coco puffs). Out of the four I tasted, I enjoyed the Citra Blonde the most and ended up getting a couple pours. In addition to beer and wine, they offer a variety of cheeses, charcuterie, and and snacks (olilves, almonds, popcorn, peanuts, chips, etc.) for you to munch on while you drink. Decided on The Crown, which included four meats and 4 cheeses for $22. The lady making The Crown ended up cutting herself (ooppss!), so it took quite some time to get our order out which is understandable. When we finally got our cheeses and meats, we were extremely pleased. They were rather generous with the portion given and I loved how it came with crackers, jam, mustard, and grapes. Overall, service was great. Our bartender/server was very attentive and made sure we were well taken care of. My only complaint would have to be their tipping system. Once you are ready to check out, you are rung up on a tablet. Before signing for your bill, our bartender/server noted that there was a 20% tip automatically added to the bill, but we could decrease or increase it if we wanted to. Ummmm yes, service was great, but will it always be great? I think it would be rather awkward if you decreased the amount of tip given, especially since the bartender/server is right there holding the tablet. They should at least set the default to 18%. Not sure if a 20% tip is automatically added if you paid at the register or not. I'll definitely be back in the near future. BTW in addition to their daily happy hour, they have a daily drink special that is 20% off all evening. read more

When this place first opened, I was a bit skeptical that this was a high-priced wine shop, Since then my opinion has changed. When a few startups I mentor had meetings Friday evenings at the Starbucks next door, we would finish our business and move to Downtown crown and enjoy the evening. They let you bring food if you like or order cheese and nuts. Their cheese platters are wonderful. They have a great menu of craft beers and an electronic display that tells you the availability. When a friend came from out of town we went first to Downtown Crown and he had a beer flight which I thought was very cool. and then we went to have dinner at the Bombay Bistro a few exits away. I went to Downtown Crown again for a Yelp event and met some cool folks. The place is now very popular and has a nice vibe to the place. I learnt the word Growler and one of these days I will be taking a growler from here. My son, not old enough to drink likes to sit at the bar and drink water and the staff keep him company. Nice folks. I wonder if they would consider having Indian Papad on the menu and spiced peanuts. I could easily demonstrate a version if they wanted. ;) read more

Two of my friends moved to the Downtown Crown area, a new development/mini town in G-burg. We were looking for a nearby hangout spot and this one seems to fit the bill! Happy hour is 20% off drinks and you can shop while waiting for a seat at the very slim bar area. The shop has a surprisingly chill and relaxing vibe (who knew fancy downtown crown could be so chill) with good beers on tap, plus wine tastings and cheese/charcuterie plates. I can imagine locals drinking here after work and then rolling or stumbling home, only a stones throw away. Check out their digital keg menu! It's pretty clever and hi-tek fun. No food outside of cheese tray type stuff, but lots of great conversation and toasts with great stuff from local and international brews and barrels. Great prices for beer and wine at all levels - from mega-affordable to very classy - on tap and in bottles and cans. Friendly atmosphere - folks meeting and greeting each other in the bar area, at nearby tables, or out in the patio seating area. Bathroom is wheelchair accessible and kinda clean'ish for a busy busy busy Friday night crowd. If you're just popping in to purchase but not drink, you'll have a fun time trying to figure out what you want among the huge volume of varied craft beers on the shelf and in the coolers. Arguably the best place to drink in crown, I love a cocktail but I'll forgo all the other chains in the area for a beer here. The staff are friendly (patrons not always but that's beside the point) and I've talked to a few who are extremely knowledgeable. My one friend is gluten free but still craves a beer and asked if they knew any local gluten free breweries and they did !!! (checkerspot in baltimore FYI) The taps are constantly changing and the beer garden is a great place to have a casual drink with a friend or coworker. To say I adore this place is an understatement. I make an effort to come in every time I am in the area, whether it is for their awesome happy hour (which is now WAY too popular) or just to look through their cool selection of local and speciality wine, cider, and beer. If you are blessed enough to get one of the few tables during happy hour (seriously they need more), please take advantage of their AMAZING charcuterie and cheese selections. Having the freedom to mix and match whatever meats and cheeses you want should not be taken for granted, THIS IS SPECIAL. The fig jam has changed my life. I drove over an hour to get here to try their beer. They have a great selection of hard to get Other Half beer which is from a NY brewery. I got cans which they had 4 packs and singles. You can also do beer flights here and try a lot of different yummy brews. I did that. They do growler fills to but only to certain beers and for certain breweries that don't have restrictions on this. Unfortunately other half doesn't allow downtown crown to do growler fills of their beer. :( I will definitely come back to restock up on OH beer. read more

DownTown Crown Lookout craft beer (and wine) lovahs, this beer n' wine store (as in selling bottles beer n' wine) is a tap house to be reckoned with! Over 20 rotating taps! And when I say rotating I mean they swap out hand picked and often rare craft selections every few days so don't get too attached to any one beer because from Monday to Thursday that week, it may have been replaced BUT by something equally good! Hops, malts, sours, ales, stouts, IPAs, dubbels, west coast/east coast, low ABV, double digit ABV yes, they have it! The owner I think is related to the owner of Dominion beer n wine in Va, which is known for its savvy in selecting great beverages. The room (it is one giant, high ceiling room) has all its rows of beer and wine along the sides and in 2/3s of one end of the store. The place is packed with bottles. The register residing in the very middle. One the other end lives the marble looking bar, split down the middle by one entrance. 4 large screens show the beer on tap and wine by the glass. 2 other screens are TVs at each end of the bar. While the selections of snacks is limited to meat n' cheese plates ( the selection and quality is superb) the place allows food to be ordered and eaten in the bar area that also has 6-8 small high tables and stools in addition to stools at the bar. The place can get very crowded and loud during happy hours and Fri/Sat nights. It offers live music a couple nights and is standing room only on such evenings and some happy hours. Often folks are standing along the wall using beer boxes and shelves to act as tables to rest their glass. The streaming music that plays can also be loud and can be varied as in smooth jazz and Latin merengue, but we have most often heard a lot of reggae there- and a good selection of old and new reggae artists, mostly modern. Despite its often crowded area, service is very fast, reliable, and friendly. Those at the cashier are well learned in beer and wine and can offer solid choices for drinking there or as purchase ideas. "Crowlers" (sealed cans if draft beer ~4 pints worth are sold in addition to Growlers. The manager is well liked by the regulars and will have a surprise for you from there time to time... It continues to be an elite force in the fresh craft beers and wine-by-the-glass arena, and few places can boast its consistency in variety and service. read more
