The instructor was inspiring, helpful, and kind. (wonderful to see him effortlessly go into ballet poses) And the class moved quickly, never boring. Half in french and english. I walk there and back to get a little "extra" in. Good to know: Change in-and-out-of your workout clothes at the studio (in Paris it's not cool to walk around in your sweaty workout stuff and if you do, I'll pretend not to know you) . Also, bring a small towel and/or water as they're not supplied at the studio. You can schedule and pay online via the App Mind Body rather than pay in person. There is of course a shower and locker room that has several hair dryers. Not sure about the locks, but it's OK to bring your bag into the studio and leave out of the way. SOCKS are mandatory: If you have barre or yoga socks, bring them or any sock will do, no need for slippers. All levels are welcome.

She was very clear in leading the class through the various poses. Since Emily knew I was a beginner, she frequently corrected me not only in achieving the pose, but to ensure that I didn't hurt myself. The studio was bright, sunny and clean, the temperature was perfect and the entire staff was warm and friendly. For certain, I will be back. I highly recommend Yoga Garden - Paris.

The people at the counter are warm and inviting, the locker rooms with direct access to the salle de yoga. The teachers are true to Bikram form, and the room is the right, hot-but-not-insane temperature. Hence my elation when I first walked in. I reveled in the hot and sweaty class, enjoyed the mixed ambiance of beginners and yogi-masters... yes! I had at last found a slice of my long lost Los Angeles yogini culture in the City of Light! But, then... After class, I went to shower up and get on with my day, and what to my wondering eyes should appear? But no showers! Wait, what? No. What they have is a long row of shower heads right. next. to. one another... a long row of naked ladies scrubbing away, like a homage to some ancient roman baths or something. I was shocked. Appalled. Annoyed. "Sweat" Jesus that's awkward. I felt like I had just walked into a movie scene of a dude's locker room. Like, here, you might elbow the lady next to you washing your pits.... no walls, no curtains -- all hope of personal propriety out the window. Now... call me a prudish American if you want, and fair enough, and I know we're in France, but if you're going to pull out all the stops to make an immaculate Bikram Yoga studio (which, by the way, has a very large American clientele) you miiiiiiight want to reconsider the "communal shower room." Every other yoga studio I've been to in Paris (i.e. LOTS) has curtains if there are showers. So, 3 stars. Had they had the decency to protect MY decency, I would probably have given them a 5. Very sad indeed.

This studio tends to have a stronger focus on both alignment and spirituality than others in Paris, which I really appreciate, because too often yoga is turned into just a physical practice. Midtown Studio…read moreoffers 50 minute bootcamp style classes that incorporate a combination of interval running, strength training and functional exercises. It's similar to Barry's except the sets between exercises are shorter and you switch from the bench, floor and treadmill more frequently. I like that there's an open space/turf where you can do more exercises that utilizes open space that's separate from the bench. It definitely feels like an all over athletic conditioning class in that regard. The woodway curved treadmills are really cool in that it's entirely dynamic and driven by your resistance although there is a manual resistance knob to add on more weight. Once you get going on it, it can go really fast and feel intimidating but after the first class you get the hang of it! There's also these straps with handles attached to the treadmill that we didn't get to use but I assume they're used in more cable based exercises. The bench is stacked with different equipment, like dumbbells and kettlebells as well as battleropes and sandbags. Class size is about half of Barry's at full capacity (20-25?) The first time I took an "extreme abs" class with an instructor whose name I didn't catch. It was definitely one of those classes that went from 0 to 100 reaaal quick so if you're not as used to working out at that intensity I'd disclose it with the instructor. The second class was with Manu, the owner, and he was FANTASTIC!!! He was such an excellent coach and really tried to give attention to each individual (something you wouldn't see at Barry's). He gave clear instructions in both French and English and was extremely motivating. He's super friendly and runs a great studio! Classes aren't as frequent and tend to go more toward the later morning into the late evening. My friend and I purchased a 2/30 euro intro deal and it was well worth the money!! If you're interested in getting a sweat on in Paris or wanna make more room for crossaints, this is your place! There are showers and Rituals amenities to freshen up with after class.
