La Vida Restaurant - Seafood platter for two

Recently under new owners and decided to try it. One reason to come but definitely a great one,…read morethe seafood platter for two. The platter is huge, with oysters (probably the best item), clams, mussels, Moreton Bay Scallops, calamari with halloumi (probably the best non-fried calamari I've ever had), prawns (huge and very tasty), shoestring potatoes and a few other things that I don't remember but certainly enjoyed. Also, given their Tasmanian roots, some of the seafood is unique to La Vida rather than what you see at the other restaurants. This platter is definitely worth one of your evenings in Noosa.

Bugs. Moreton Bay or Balmain. Shovel Nosed Lobsters. The family Scyllaridae…read more I have loved these critters for ever. Up at Noosa Moreton Bay Bugs are a joy to behold, if you can find somewhere that be holdin' them. Problem is most places want to show off with my little guys and put them in a ravioli or turn them into some kind of foam or do something weird with them so that they aren't bugs any more. Not this place. It used to be called Lindonis I think - thats probably why I am the first to review it. Fact is its been here for twenty years, but for my 200th review I am happy to declare this place serves the best bugs this side of a dirty Chinese kitchen. BBQ'd with garlic and dill butter. Thats all. And eight, yep eight of the little bottom feeders! It takes very good chef to know that the produce is the star and not the cook. I remember an old mate once told me that in French cuisine the chef is the star and in Italian the food is the star. Here the bugs are the stars. We shared a plate of crumbed calarmari and a plate of veggies, which, because this place is classy, was called a 'stack'. The calarmari was sensational, even though it looked like the sort of meal you'd get at a suburban Pizza joint. I asked why they were so good and the owner told me they were fresh caught, marinated in kiwi fruit for just long enough to tenderise them but not so long as to cook them and that the crumb was a special Japanese technique known only to direct descendants of the Samurai Emperor Bugsansei. And I believe her. Left my phone at home 'cos up here you eat in boardies - your good ones for upmarket places and your old faves for the other places. Keeno has some photos which the kids may be able to upload to this review. I shouldn't even try or I will break something.

The short: Affordable food for the family, with good kids options and huge coffees…read more The long: The whole family went down to the new North Lakes outlet after it was open for a week. I had The Star beef burger. Wife had the trio of sliders. Kids had Pizzas. The beef burger was excellent. Juicy, juicy patty and plenty of bacon. Bun was a little bit over toasted for me, but still edible. The chips that accompanied this dish were crispy and well-seasoned. The wife's sliders suffered from over-toasting as well. She wasn't all that impressed with the sliders, and suggested to me that perhaps Briosh buns would have fared better for these little bites. That aside, the three burgers had quite different tastes to them and were served with crisp, well-seasoned chips. The Kids had BBQ based pizzas: one ham and one chicken. I had to swap some chips out for a few slices of Pizza from my son, who managed to finish up one of these monsters. The chicken pizza was the winner over the ham. And unfortunately the bases were overcooked again. I reckon the grill/toaster was cranked up a bit high the day we visited. I passed on the feedback to the manager, who graciously accepted the feedback. It's early days for this outlet so I'll be back to try some more items out.
